Was there in the front row and will never forget it. Took my Mum for a Christmas present. Ran into the Memphis Mafia who were staying at our hotel. They invited us back to a party but we were exhausted; can't believe we gave it a miss! Rick (Australia)
yeah these are gems I have this and 76' new years I believe.memory stopped working!! they are good.ashame they didn't release much from 73 on... but I know they didn't want to show elvis in that heavier state blah blah! unfortunately his shows were better to me.
should of stopped the damn drugs we would have alot more music he would have more than likely died in the 1990's he messed his body up bad with all those drugs. What a waste all that talent and looks taken away because he couldn't stand reality had to self medicate damn the drug companies all to hell
wow over 60 000 people were at this concert !!! ya hear how elvis started to fade mid 70's but thats just a unjustified throw away thing to say and its bullshit !! this was a new indoor record !! even all the health problems mid and late 70's his music and legendery status were still going strong !!!!
Yeah, I was there when Barry Sanders went over 2000 yards. The Lions are the only NFC team left who never made a Super Bowl appearance. Owned by the Ford Motor Company, the Lion's are the poster child of futility. The NFL should move the Lions to LA, not force the Jaguars.
12-31-75 elvis played the silverdome and made history just as he did at the houston astrodome 1970 and 74. colonel parker didnt sign elvis to play those big venues yearly as he should have done for some strange reason. i wonder why elvis only played madison square garden only on 1972 and never again. something just wasnt right. cstanchik
Wish they would have released one of those recordings of Polk Salad as a Single. Elvis was rocking that song as hard as and Hard Rock Band playing at that time.
I was at this show and it was so cold in the Silverdome that the cords were changing on the band because it was so cold. You could tell Elvis and the band were unhappy. I remember Elvis had engineers come in a few days early and re-do the sound system for his show. About halfway through the show, Elvis apologized for it being so cold, in the mid 40's temperature wise. He told the band to do the best they could under the circumstances. It snowed 8 inches that night. I kept my ticket stub.
Elvis was angry the band were on a different level as eye contact was vital to him.Leaving the show afterwards, elvis lost his temper about it in the limo.
I'm thinking Col. Parker missed a trick here. He could have made alot more money by making it a closed circuit event like the Ali fights. The older I get the more I dislike the Col.
THAT RIGHT JOLLY OLD ELVIS IS COMING TO TOWN DEC. 31 Elvis Presley, in a telegram to Pontiac Stadium officials and to this column, expressed his gratitude to the Detroit area people for their overwhelming response to having Elvis live on New Year's Eve. "This is a tremendous honor" he said. "I'm looking forward to being with you on New Year's Eve" About 90,000 are expected to pack the stadium on Dec. 31
Jerry Baron, stadium director of special events, smiled when he told me the news earlier. We both thought having "Fat Cat" Elvis on New Year's Eve was just a wild idea. But it worked. The possibility was first mentioned here.
Readers were asked to send "We Want Presley" cards to Baron. Radio stations joined in to draw about 25,000 cards. Baron quickly told Elvis' manager, ol' Col. Tom Parker about the response. And contract talks began. Mail orders should be sent to Elvis, 1200 Featherstone, Pontiac, Mich. 48057. (Good luck.)
Galoport, Elvis actually first ripped out his britches during the "Amen" ending of "I Got A Woman". Listen to "Pt. 1", Elvis talks about it. It must have been embarrasing, but Elvis handled it well. "Pt. 4" will include a snippet of him talking about the tear in June 1976, "from here to here to here...no where to go!" lol
My Mom and Dad went to this concert. I remember wishing I'd been there when they told me Elvis split his pants. =)

Wish FTD finds these recordings and makes a CD out of it...
Elvis, Hulk Hogan, Andre THe Giant, Barry Sanders...that's a lot of legends for one building, eh?

@SoulKissin oddly the last time the Lions won something Elvis recorded Jailhouse Rock!!!!
I wish FTD will someday release this!!!

@SoulKissin I remember that game, they lost a great defensive tackle that day.
Elvis was a hugh football fan, it's too bad they didn't have entertainment at half time like they do know.
Elvis would have jumped and would have Rocked that performance.

He split his pants during this concert and had to have a costume change.

I also assist to that concert and I kept my ticket stub, I will always rememember that concert for as long as I live.
I drove 1500miles from Montreal Canada up to Ponctiac Silverdome.
I also assist to his funeral.
As years goes by I miss him every day more and more.
HE WAS AND REMAING THE ONLY KING

Elvis ripped his pants in the end of this song, so he had to go backstage and change to a new Suit. That's why The Stamps sang Sweet Sweet Spirit.
