I guess the thing with the Cordon entrance is that the army guys were meant to be so hard in order to force the player to run as far left as possible. And yeah, this part of Stalker is probably the most buggy one, but it can still be played without major annoyances. I'd suggest to Craig to do a proper save before the city of Limansk however, since there's a somewhat bigger bug there (google stalker limansk ambush bug), but it can be circumvented.
LOL, sorry for so many comments Craig, but alas I, as well as anyone who has ever played Clear Sky can resonate with your frustration at entering Cordon.
To be honest, your game is far more lenient with you, only opening up once you are far down the hill. In my game, I could not even make it to the fat tree to the right, and yes, they can shoot through that as well.
Yes, you've just discovered something else with this game. The areas are not labeled on the map, so you have no idea where the guide will lead if you're new.

@PleaseLikeMyComments Well its buggy, but still fun buggy, so I'll keep struggling through.

Craig, you need to trade your foodstuffs with the barman. He pays 100RU a pop for vodka and a goodly amount for the food.

LOL. Your reaction to the "mad" NPCs is appropriate. :)

"What's that guy doing?" Well, they do that all the time. The southern farmstead can be quite buggy.
