  • Thanks man, ur vids helped alot. maybe people will learn easier if u add some tabs on the vids according to the solo...

  • *?

  • What's key are your strings tuned to.

  • thumbs up if u luv this man

  • orra vlw!

    thaks!

  • u use alternate picking in this first riff?

  • I'm From Timmins Ontario Represent Canada! :) thanks man you've inspired me a lot

  • I just began doing a video about metal ideas, What do u think?.... im quite new at this:P just klick on my name and the video is there

  • Well,this is tottally wierd,the thing at 5:19 i discovered that "scale" bout 2months ago,never figured what it is,but i sounded really cool!thanx man!(sry for bad english)

  • with this fuckin slow Internet Speed i'll be able to watch it in a year ! :S

btw i like your videos great job ;)

  • Your guitar lessons have helped me a lot. Cheers from India!

  • @blink0r (and thumbs down on this comment!)

  • @blink0r well, your gay

  • @blink0r Dont like it? WATCH SOMETHING ELSE........... dur

  • @blink0r i'd love to se you atempt a metal solo as legit as this guy could. boom.

  • When i play the tritone it sounds so wrong but when you play it it sounds so cool!!! HOW DO YOU DO THAT???

  • dude i have the same strap as you haha

  • Are you rocking a Les Paul?

  • siiic dude thanks... that helped alot!

  • Do you have any videos/lessons up on string damping. I don't mean string muting to get a chugga chugga sound, I mean muting/damping so that while you are playing the notes in a solo, the other strings don't ring out, make unwanted noises. I especially get noise on the srings just adjacent to the one I am playing.

    Thanks, just subscribed!

  • @massif20022000 palm mute slightly if u understand it haha...barley nicking the strings with ur palm

  • thanks watta relief... this is great....im learning man....keep up the good work

  • THIS IS KICKASS

  • Nice...Thank you for the tips!

  • Hey bob, nice lesson, im not great at learing by ear, if you made a tab on ultimate guitar, or a tab section on you're website it would help me and a fellow friend out but for now im going to use this lesson to train my ears and fingers together \m/

  • I can't believe their are people that actually hate on you. For all the haters I'm sorry. ROCK ON

  • sounds like a scary killer i love it :) his voice i mean

  • dude add some wah to that ffirst riff and it sounds sick

  • dude i need help ur first riff. when i play it it comes noise... sorry but im not so good.:P plz help

  • annotate these older videos with tabs!!! its kinda hard for me to follow

  • Dude, one minute into this video I was already saying "I love you."

  • Awesome video! I just watch your examples and find a good way to use a similar pattern in key. Thanks for the ideas!

  • what key is that first lick in

  • why....do....you...speak.....like.....this.... ?

  • dude this definatley helps wen i mix a few of these riffs in with my playing style

  • i wanna know how to do some of those really fast melodic bend a good example it the triviums song the decieved the solos got some chronic bends that i cant quite nail im fine with the sweeps and scale there just prectice but i dont know what to practice witht these damn bends!!!!!

  • ok i used to knock you a lot, but i'll admit after watching some more of you're videos you are actually a really good teacher, so now that you probably remember but i'm sorry for knocking you, good job on the vids, beginners should definitely watch this if they want to get way better faster

  • How about your picking technique?? Because it seems to be the picking part that is difficult in this lesson.

  • @PhongeNay sounds like alternate picking for most of it but when he does hammerons hes not picking

  • How much time have you playing guitar...!?

  • with my metal soloing, especially for fast fills that involve alternative picking, i use the pentatonic shape but in a chromatic form if that makes sense |-12--13--14--15-| like that (it makes me feel a bit noobish lol, but it has the metal feel to it at the same time), but when i play a bit slower i use the pentatonic scale or the regular minor scale

  • @tghoopz yea the chromatic scale does make you feel abit noobish but there are really cool ways of using it... synister gates (avenged sevenfold) uses it in some cool ways and hes a really established guitarist... so it makes me feel better about it haha

  • could you post some tabs on this plz??

  • u r amaizing thanx, u really helped me

  • omg you helped me so much!

  • you even have that instructor kinda pleasant voice, good lesson.

  • Thanks My Man ,,I play all the time now I know what I am doing thanks Bro.Keep Jamming..Axe Man

  • finally someone who knows whats up..nice

  • Anybody wanting to write a guitar solo, remember, it's about the build-up and the feel. All of Randy Rhoad's guitar solos are technically impressive, but his best solos are the ones that have the best mood to them. Mr. Crowley... Crazy Train... They're great because of the feeling you get when you hear them. It's not just scales, modes, arpeggios....

  • @element5333 well said !

  • haha, woop~ ! I'm in a jazz band at school, I solo alot. I try to avoid "shredding" and playing things more melodic.

  • Comment removed

  • dude u fucking rule your vids helped alot i could never understand this without ur help thx alot

  • @706films dude I don't care what anyone says you fucking rock!! Thanx for making soloing patterns so easy to learn that's information that you didn't have to share and took the time to do so, so in my eyes your the shit.!

  • its hoog but just a little slower would be nice!!!1

  • Great lesson, excellent playing

  • you crispy critter you

  • Great Vid Man, but has anybody else noticed, u sound a bit like salad fingers

  • I get the notes, but what about the picking? Is he hitting the strings individually or strumming real fast?

  • sounds more like he's playing sweeps

  • @combobommen it alternate picking i think

  • xDDD its called alternate picking each note individually along with hammer ons and shit...unless he sweeped the first riff xD

  • Thanks for clarifying

  • good stuff but no offense you sound like a stalker

  • THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS! I downloaded this video with YoutubeDownloader (hehehehe>:D) so that I didn't need to take the guitar EVERY TIME up to the livingroom. THANK YOU!! I'm a beginner, but I managed to learn this. Ehmm... I used 1 1/2 hours on it XD But.. yeah. It's hard for a beginner with a cheap guitar. ANYWAYS!! My father is so proud of me that I could do this HOT FRETBURNING LICK. Hehe, yup. 13 year old. GREATINGS FROM NORWAY!!!

  • You are a fantastic teacher. I learned a whole lot in a very short time thanks to you. Cosider me your student.

  • need some help...I'm a pretty fast guitarist, but the thing is I can't play fast very long : ( ....I noticed i clench up and tighten my wrist when playing fast....would being relaxed help out my speed a lot? cuz it's kinda hard to do though....any tips appreciated = )

  • thats what you should be doing anyway! relax your wrist as much as possible.

  • same problem i have man i seem to clench after awhile

  • i play in drop d, drop-c, and double drop d.... can u make a vid showing a few tips on that tuning? that would be amazing bro

    takecare

  • double drop d?

  • @dfftw where both E's are tuned to D

  • helpfull realy helpfull, fhank you

  • Another good vid, Bob, keep it up.

  • Yay! I thought the first riff would be impossible, but with the right technique it's easy! :)

  • Comment removed

  • achokarlos!!!

  • it doesnt seem like u use ur pinky very much in this vid

  • I try so hard yet I can get it to sound right. Does anyone have any tips for finger speed besides lots of practicing...Ive tried that. Plus some tips for better sustain because I cant hammer on the first string...

  • theres this program called guitar speed trainer, and if you follow the course to 2 weeks your triple your speed try it!

  • is it free?

  • well its not FREE but if you look in the right places "wink, wink" its free

  • Unless you've practiced for years without getting anywhere you haven't "tried that". There are no secrets to speed, just a whole load of practice and hard work.

  • what I meant were certain exercises and other little tips that would make things easier. But since then I got a new guitar with the strings alot closer to the fretboard which made it quite alot easier for me.

  • u have a really good point

  • so true

  • I try so hard yet I can never get it to sound good. Any suggestions on getting your finger speed better? besides lots of practicing...Ive tried that

  • Speed Kills.

  • i'll pm you an exercise tab that really helps out with your alternate picking and some makes you do some finger work. It's a blues exercise but it gets the job done if you can play it quickly.

  • hi bob from toronto Canada

  • does anyone else think the riff at 2:37 sounds familiar?

    -pope

  • the first little bit sounds like For whom the bell tolls but only the first like 4 notes

  • maybe that's what it was, all i know is it sounds familiar, but only when he does the riff slow, and like you said only the first four or so.

    thanks much mate!

    -pope

  • c in this like the riff at 3.40 do u need 2 keep that in the key or scale?? sorry am really confused about all this :S

  • love the first riff! That work on rock and not metal too.

  • 5:28 was really awesome sounds sick! Thanks for these tips!

  • honestly guys, he never said he was the best in the world so stop giving him crap. he just made a video to help out begining guitar players.

  • yea he's pretty good

  • um no ironrzk your an idiot for 2 reasons one the aurgument was resloved if your going to talk shit at least read first, and second its 011 not 101 btw dont judge me you dont know me and i know many things about guitar playing as well

  • I still think you're an idiot. firstly, you don't know shit about guitars. if i had to judge you i would force you to go into a bath of your worst enemy's shit with your head downwards.

    dumbass =))

  • AND HAVE U EVER HEARD MY GUITAR PLAYING?? didnt think so shut the fuck up and go suck a dick you stupid fucking kid go kill your self and do the world a favor you ingnorant fucking looser

  • I'm sure that your playing is plain brown crap. Whoever told you that you can play guitar was a moron, along with you and with your families of loosers.

Nothing in the world is so ridiculous than an idiot who claims he has supernatural guitar skills and wants some attention and HE DOESN'T get it. well, the way he wants...

all in all, dear shredder101, I wish you broken fingers and an A minor arpeggio stuck up in your butt.

  • i didn t want attionten and U HAVE NEVER SEEN NOR HEARD ME PLAY supernatural ha no im NOT a guitar god by any means, i am profeciant in my own style of playing and i create music for the sake of artistic expression, and because it speaks to my soul, WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM??? why don't u stop talking shit on youtube and go do something productive? seriously you dont know me or my music i dont care for or need attention i was having a bad day and spoke too arrogantly... get over it im done with u

  • Try to mute the lower string with your index while you play solos. Also mute the strings above the one you play as you move so you don't get a lot of feedback.

  • damn i suck i can't alternate pick multipul strings without sounding all muted and crappy and i only know one scale

  • lol, i have 2 metal scales on my profile that might help.

  • dude honestly all i know is like 2. now im not saying that i am fuckin randy rhodes reincarnate, no far far from that lol, but honestly you dont need to know that many scales, it all depends on how you put them together. Shit Dimebag darrell only knew 3 scales lol all u need my friend is some practise and i guarantee ull kick mega ass

  • Good, helpful lesson!

  • Hey Bob!

  • ok well this is kinda a stupid question but just bare with me ok well say im playing a e phrygian scale and it has seven different notes in it but the thing i dont get is the scale seqeuce thingy just say its 1,flat2,flat3,4,5,flat6,flat7 so i tried to look online but i couldnt find crap so yeah it would if you could answerit alot

  • Im new also, but Ill try to explain.

As you know, there are 7 notes in a scale (or 8 which is the octive). And the "standard" scale would be like C because none of the seven notes (1, 2, 3, etc) are neither sharp nor flat. In a G scale, the 7th is sharpened (In this case an F), so when you look at "1,flat2,flat3,4,5,flat6,flat7" it is saying which notes are flattened. I hope I explained good, I also hope I'm correct... lol

  • Slash, listen to the guy. Theory isn't necessary, but even a basic understanding will greatly assist you. Not all scales have seven notes, that is just your atypical scale. The diminished scale, for example, has 8 notes.

  • Thank you! This helps alot!

  • on the first rift do u hammer on and pull off

    or.. what?

  • all are picked. it starts the 4 note pattern on the B string and then on the high E.

  • hey whats the firts scale? half whole diminished? and the othet scale is the tritone?

    help please

  • what esp do u use i have the ltd ex 400 its good what about u

  • It's a Gibson Les Paul Studio.

  • marcuscelello | June 02, 2008

couple of questions. how come when i hammer on, i can barely hear it??? like, i hammer on, and i can only hear the first like, 2 notes?? please help me with that. and also, do u have any tips on how to create your own solo?? please any1, i'd appreciate it if u comment me back

  • Just pick a scale relative to the key you play in. I.E. you use the pentatonic scale on the relative minor (6th Note) of the major scale of the key you're in. If don't understand anything I just said you can probably get a music theory book from your library. I would also print out a copy of a diatonic chart. Even if you think you don't play well practice believe it or not youll get better.

Oh, that hammer on problem is just probably your technique. Just look up some videos on hammer ons.

  • well, i've been using pentatonic. i'll check out the diatonic chart. thanks for the tips

  • hammer on it harder

  • the whole hammer on might be your guitar. i had a really crappy guitar that would never stay in tune and sounded terrible. it should be really easy to hear a hammer on/ pull of on a nice guitar. or just turn the gain/ distortion way up

  • well i got a 300 dollar danelectro. and my gain is up all the way

  • lol true

  • Hi Bob or anyone,

Do you mute the 5th string when you come off to go to the 6th?

  • wow! NICE! i really liked the one at about 3:50

  • Tabs coming very soon for my guitar lesson videos!! I'll post a video to notify, so subscribe to my channel if you want the notification. I'll be posting them on my guitar lesson website.

  • your awsome i live in toronto can you plz teach me

  • You should say what tuning you're in. Would these scales work tuned down a whole step??

  • yes, they infact would.

  • If I was only able to get my fretting fingers to move as fast as my picking finger I would be good. Great lesson!

  • i love your intros!!!

  • nice tattoo on left arm

  • I really gained a lot from this video. Thanks!

  • lallaboy is a gay name and the 300 stands for how many dicks hes swallowed.......nice vid thanks for the lesson

  • by the way sweet licks

  • dude I know there is a lesson there and everything but is there anyway someone could drop me tabs for these riffs?

  • lallaboy300 is there any need?

    nice lesson bobby, as usual

  • says someone who calls themself "lallaboy" HAHAHA!!!!

  • fucking hypocrites ruin youtube

  • Another great lessons and some useful licks, thanks alot man.

  • Some pretty cool licks in there, first one is a classic sound so thumbs definitely up there. That 3-2-0 pull off lick was pretty cool too, good way to get fingers working before a song and it sounds awesome in or out of a song too.

  • What parts are pull offs and what parts are picking?

  • 5 stars

  • 5th comment!!! your videos help me alot and this one rocks. it helps me with really fast fingerpicking!!!!!

  • pretty good Bob, pretty good

  • that is awesome :) your videos help so much for a starter or advanced guitar player
