  • are u talking like that because u got silicosis? lol jk

  • Do not believe these idiots...they become immuned to any pesticide within a 60 day period...watch your mouldings at floor level...buy a flashlight...they come out between 12 midnight and 4 am ...in cycles...simply stay awake and grab them with a dampish kleenex..sorry, but they do not stay in your beds...they are all over your home...Move and leave every stick of furniture behind...Sorry, the truth hurts..I know...

  • @jackcarpentersax Not quite true silcagel when it's ground up can cause silicosis, which is incurable and quite a bitch of a way to die. DE (diatomaceous earth) is safer and well 4lb. cost around 10 bucks at kmart. But Silicosis can be prevented by using a painters mask (good one like 25 to 40 bucks at home depot) while grinding and laying out the silica dust (if you dun have a hepa filter on your vacuum cleaner) might want to use it then too. You got one life try not to breathe the stuff.

  • How did you powder the cat litter?

  • @SIG551P Use a mortar and pestle idea or just use a food processor or electric coffee grinder.

  • @jackcarpentersax The girl next door is your sister isn't she?

  • @jackcarpentersax

    hi

i do not find silica gel but there is silica sand i wonder this is the same or not?

    thanks

  • I bought my DE at Ace hardware. I ordered a t4lb bag for 10$ and some change. Even though I don't have them I bought some DE for preventative measures!

  • @hananiah81

DE is good for many crawling insects.

  • @hananiah81 What is the DE

    thanks

  • @23456545

Hi BEDBUG NUBE. DE is Diatomaceous Earth. D iatomaceous E arth.

  • @jackcarpentersax i wish i was a bedbug noob...

  • excuse me sir once you have crushed you just spread it all over and then what is the plan leave it there forever or how and when is it picked up and removed?

  • You go Jack I just discovered this morning once and for all these critters have been the culprit since the beginnng of this year for my bumps and rashes. All along I thought it might be my medication, allergic reaction,diabetes,hives....whatever causes rashes and bumps I thought I had it.I don't give a rats ass if it's completely safe or not,I'll take the neccassry precautions. As long as they kill those pesculents.Their a violation. And if this method works well more praises and hellujah to u.

  • Are you really sure it works? If so, how long did you use that system and got rid of the bugs?

  • Thanks for the info! We are having a real problem with bed bugs in Kansas and I want to be ready for them if they ever come my way!

  • @lela2216

Thanks for your comment. You are now truly prepared.

  • @jackcarpentersax - how do you crush the silica cat litter to a fine powder ? is there any machine ?

  • @jackcarpentersax how do you crush the silica cat litter to a fine powder ? is there any machine ?

  • you can use a food processor or a coffee grinder

silica gel is rather "soft" it looks like salt crystals but is much "softer"

  • If you google the effects of silicosis you will feel pretty silly. Not the smartest approach. I hope you dont have any kids in the house.

  • @kidspit

If you smarty pants where to also google the cause of silicosis you would realize that amorphous silica gel is not a cause. However crystaline silica does cause silicosis. Silica gel is not crystaline so it won't cause this silicosis you are ranting wrongly about.

    With all due respect!

Thank you for your unnecessary concern. If silica gel litter is good for cats then it is also good for me.

  • @jackcarpentersax I would not call it unnecessary concern, that's a bit rough on someone offering a possible danger.

I'm not sure silica gel is going to have the intended effect, in any case. At least one seller of diatomateous earth claims the effect is from cuts to the carapace caused by the sharp little diatom shells, which then causes the little critters to dry out. Which can't happen from silica gel, as it is soft and will quickly fill with moisture from the air.

  • err does silica gel which is found inside shoe box work?

  • @secretspy36

yes the silica gel inside the shoe box works if you grind it to a fine fine powder but you need a larger quantity.

  • Dear Jack, I will be trying powdered silica cat litter on bedbugs here in Saudi Arabia. I have not captured any prisoners to test, but I'm using what I believe to be pure silica gel from "Clear Choice" cat litter. I will use a blender to grind it, if it is still too coarse, I will switch to mortar and pestle. God willing, I'll tell you about the results. Thank you for your efforts.

  • Good for you! Sounds like you have a good plan. I like your humor. I hope you can capture some "prisoners" to test. Hahaha. So funny. thanks for the good humor.

  • How do you apply the powder to the matteress and box spring?

  • Apply the powder liberally pm tje seams and on the edges of the top of the mattress. Put the powder within the sheets around your feet as well. It will dry the skin on your legs and feet a little but it will also dry up the bedbugs when they come to feast on your blood and cause your nightmares.

  • I heard that salt also work for bedbugs???true or false???

  • false

    salt won't work

    I tried it.

  • Thanks. The silica gel cat litter is perfectly safe though. But you are right that the diatomaceous earth is ready made and can be used for health purposes if you end up having a lot left over.

  • USE FOOD GRADE DIATOMACEOUS EARTH its 100% safe and works the best. it does the same thing. it dehydrates them the same way, but its SAFE! you can even eat or drink it do get rid of tapeworms for your dog... or yourself... and you dont have to crush it up your self. a 12 ounce bottle cost me $18 get it from your Down to Earth or some health food store.

  • @KillerTofu808 I haven't been able to find Diatomaceous earth, where else have you seen it on sale?

  • WOW!!how long do you use, the Cat litter(Silicon),and how does it kill them?

  • Bedbugs feed only occasionally so it will take a few weeks to a month to get rid of them all . It kills them by sticking to their oily exoskeleton. The silica gel powder absorbs the oil on their body and allows the water inside them to evaporate, drying them up. Some of it may also get into their joints and corrode the exoskeleton. Some of it goes into their stomach and cuts up their stomach. To the bedbugs the silica gel powder is very hard.

  • @jackcarpentersax I have heard that jagged silica particles are very dangerous to our lungs, what have you heard in that regards? thnx.

  • @angryadrien

Sorry but you are wrong. Silica gel is a food ingredient as well. Silica gel is amorphous. Do your research and don't confuse silica gel with crystaline silica. Silica gel is harmless. Would they use it for the cats to walk on and make dust and to breath it if it were harmful?

  • @jackcarpentersax "crystaline silica and silica gel"...ah, is the crystaline one used for sandblasting? I heard about some form of silica being dangerous, but that was 15 years ago. I have no real knowledge of sand or silica. and you ask "would they use it for cat litter if it was harmless to breath?" well, probably not, but would they add poisonous chemicals to cigarettes if they knew people were going to inhale the fumes? uh, yeah, they would and they do.

  • @jackcarpentersax Hmmm he told u,hey everyone is giving this guy a hard time about his solutuion to this crisis. This shit with the bugs are not funny and if you have'nt had them before, then u have no room to be critizing and debating if the thing works or not.Damn people on YouTube whenever someone tries to help out and in a cheap effecetive way(hello can u say recession) Best believe u can leave it to someone to hate.To be full of problems and no solutuions their damn selves.

  • i love your video jack! does fresh step crystals work? very hard to find the kind that you have in your video...

  • If it is cat litter and it looks like road salt or large pieces of salt and is blue, clear, whitish or yellow or any other shade it will work however it has to be ground to a fine, fine powder.

If it is cat litter that looks like clay then it won't work.

  • Comment removed

  • It take time. Just be patient. It may take a few hours for the bedbugs to dehydrate. It does not work immediatly. It is not a poison. Be sure the powder is ground very very fine. Put the powder in a butter container and let the bedbugs run around in the powder.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't think so but it will kill the bedbugs just after they hatch. Did the powder kill the bedbug for you?

  • Comment removed

  • Did you put the powder in a container with the bugs? Sticking the thing to a piece of tape is not a good test. Retest the powder and be patient.

  • Moving is useless. You will just take the bugs with you. They can even be in your purse. Or in the pockets of your clothes.

  • Comment removed

  • Silica gel powder will kill the bedbugs and most other crawling insects anywhere and everywhere in the house.

  • Comment removed

  • If it looks sort of like rock salt then it is the right thing. It has to be ground to a fine powder using a mortar and pestle, coffee grinder or a food processor or in some other way. The finer the powder the better.

  • Jack, please remove this video. I have done what you recommened and left the silica gel in my room and around my bed. Couple of weeks later I am coughing pretty and it seems that i am have symptoms of silicosis as I breathed large amount of silica gel dust.

Dont grind it in a coffee grinder!

    Dont put around your bed!

Drione is bedbug powder, please check the internet on using this chemical it says to avoid inhaling it and it contains 40% silica gel dust

  • Hogwash! I doubt that you have silicosis. I think it is all in your head. I could be wrong but it certainly won't be due to amorphous silica gel powder.

  • The silica gel is cat litter and the cats breathe it everytime they step into it to do their business. If it caused silicosis do you think they would use silica gel as cat litter?

  • See, you just said Drione is almost half silica gel so it is no problem. If it caused silicosis do you think they would use it in the Drione. You don't have silicosis. Do you breath flour when you cook. Then don't get too close to the silica gel powder also. Silica gel is harmles. It is a food ingredient. Besides they use it for the cats. Would they use it as cal litter if it were harmful. Sorry but silicosis does not develop over the period of a few weeks or months. It takes years of exposure.

  • Pet Value has this cat gel. Just got it today....i live downtown Toronto and it was the only store in town that had it. Parliament St. $12.49 for large ctnr.

  • Just be sure to grind it to a fine fine powder. It will work.

  • Does it really work? How can I crush cat litter to powder?

  • It works watch my videos and read the comments. The commentors verify it. Use two rocks to crush it, use a coffee grinder. use a food processor or a mortar and pestle.

  • how safe is this stuff? I need to spread it all around my house. There was a huge infestation that we didn't even know about. I am sleeping on the couch in the living room so would it be safe to dust the pillows where i lay on? or the couch itself? what should i do?

  • The silica-gel and pool-grade DE can be somewhat dangerous if inhaled.

You're way better off buying "Food-Grade 100% DE", which I found available online for around $17 for 5lbs. Some places may charge up to $30, so use froogle to search for the best deal, including shipping.

  • Silica gel cat litter is edible. It is a food ingredient. Pool grade diatomaceous earth is crystaline silica. I did not suggest to use the pool grade DE. Of course it may kill you if you breath it over a long period of time.Pool grade DE is heated so it melts and then form crystaline silica it may cause silicosis.Silica gel in the cat litter is amorphous and safe.

Is that American dollars? The food grade DE is good but I had bedbugs and couldn't wait so I just went to the pet store down the road.

  • Hi there, can you advise what DE stands for? Thks.

  • DE == Diatomaceous Earth

It's finely ground fossilized diatoms. To people it's like a fine powder. To bugs it's like shards of glass. Slices their bodies open, they dry out, they die.

Food Grade is pure DE, extremely finely ground, when bugs walk through it they get sliced open and eventually die.

Takes up to 6 hours or so for them to die, so they can still get in a bite, but it'll be their last one ever :-)

  • Aquarium diatom filter powder is DE. It just needs to be ground to a finer powder. See my other videos. I know about DE already. Get it as cheaply as you can.

  • I am going to try this today and I'll tell you what happens. I don't have much money and the Pest Control company that I went to told me that I would have to pay $375 Per Room and I know for a fact that they are in at least two rooms in my apartment. I asked the guy if he could work out a deal with me because I don't even have two-hundred dollars to spare as I have a newborn baby girl and the bed bugs were crawling on her in her crib.

  • You have to crush silica gel cat litter to a fine fine powder see my other videos about improvising a mortar and pestle. Test the powder in a container with some bedbugs and you will see they will be dead in a couple of hours.

  • All bedbug powders are made with silica gel or diatom powder mixed with insecticides. Diatom powder is hard to find in large cheap quantities but the silica gel is easier to find as cheap silica gel cat litter. You are right. It is the same as what I am showing people to make. They mix the same ingredients as I did, package it and sell it expensively. Few people know about it but with a few simple searches on the internet you can find out what the basic ingredients are.

  • the thing is, how do you get this homemade mix on the bugs? put it around your bed so that they walk on it before they climb up?

  • This is same stuff in the products you buy in the store. You are just assembling the powder yourself without the pricetag. Put it all parts of the bed parts of the bed, in seams of the mattress. Put it aroud the bed legs and around baseboards, on closet shelves, behind furniture or around furniture edges. Put it on any horizontal surface. Bedbugs crawl all over the place. Be generous with the powder. Before they climb up, climb down, where they hide as they move around everywhere.

  • The bedbugs will crawl on and through the powder. Put it on, in and all around your bed parts and on baseboards and horizintal surfaces in your room. As the bedbugs move around here and there they will crawl through it. I even put some powder on my computer and monitor because as I surfed the internet the damn things would crawl on the computer and come bite my feet. I even put powder in a ring around my chair. I felt them crawling on my body even when there were none on me. I was spooked.

  • i am still spooked. every little twitch my body makes i look cause i think it mightbe a bedbug on me!

  • If bedbugs are running around your house those twitches ARE bedbugs. If you see them keep sprinkling powder. Fear not bedbugs are one of the easiest insects to exterminate because they cannot develop resistance to insect powders because it acts physically and not chemically. It took us only two weeks to get rid of them and the powder will keep working as long as it is there. The silica gel powder WILL work and is good for other crawling insects.

  • You have to assume every twitch is due to a bedbug because you cannot slack off. You have to do something every day to fight them until you are sure they are absolutely gone. I did not go crazy washing all my stuff or hunting down bedbugs but I did sprinkle powder every day in all the easy to get at nooks and crannies in my bedroom. If you live in a building you have to get everyone else to fight them as well.

  • all because i got a job at a homeless crisis shelter-

  • Getting a job at the homeless crisis shelter was the best thing that could have happened to you. Because of it you found my videos and now have the tools to fight bedbugs and other insects. Even the rich have the bedbug problem. The bugs don't look at the bank account. Just tell others to watch my videos because my main goal is to help those without much money. Anybody can find cement so anybody can fight bedbugs. Silica gel cat litter is cheap for anyone..

  • Mattress encasements can help but bedbugs hide all over the house and even up to a hundred or more feet away from your bed. The encasements are good because they prevent the bedbugs from getting in the seams of mattresses. However an encasement will not prevent a reinfestation. That is just my opinion I am no expert but I have fought the battle against the bedbugs and have won. My goal is to help poor people and especially people in need of a cheap solution for a whole apartment building.

  • I went crazy with the powder. I even put it on top of my comforter. Every evening I would see bed bugs on top of my bed before I went to sleep. I figured that if they were running around the top of my bed then I would put powder all over the top as well. Silica gel is used as a food additive. I have seen it as an ingredient in some cereals and Nestea Iced Tea mix (as silicon dioxide to absorb water) If you do not mix it with pesticide the most it will do is dry your skin a bit.

  • Very interesting! Mattress encasements are cheap too and will prevent this from ever happening to you again.
