  • Groovy!

  • Nice Billy sounds great.

  • im thinking of getting a 'G6120DSV Nashville' off the internet. i think they're discontinued. do you think its worth it or should i get a brian setzer model instead? the guitar has 2 DynaSonic single-coil pickups-Bigsby B6BCDE vibrato tailpiece with 1956 handle. i know BS MODL haveTV Jones pick ups. but does it really make that much of a difference? can i still get a rockin' rockabilly sound off those pick ups?

  • @Fukit50s I'd go for the Setzer model. -Billy

  • Fantastic, love that sound and that kind of playing. I'm probably about selling my Gibson , can't resist 6120. Oh yeah, In france , we love Gretsch too, you know!

  • Fantastic, love that sound and that kind of playing. I'm probably about selling my Gibson , can't resist 6120

  • Very good sound,

On a previous comments you said that the amp is a "4x10 Bassman amp " you built, can you tell more about it please ?

  • @jleBib1 It's basically a clone of the original 5F6-A Bassman circuit. All the good stuff. Mercury Magnetics transformers, SoZo caps, carbon comp resistors, Weber speakers. It ends up being a great and versatile amp. -Billy

  • I want to be able to do that.

  • Dude you rock....What kinda strings do you use on that bad boy?

  • @MrRano55 D'Addario .010's. -Billy

  • I'am coming from the punk music but I wanted something more technical and didn't like the metal that much. So I came around here and like it only thing is don't they play chords on there guitars or what?

  • Man do u give lessons online?

  • I worked with billy 17 years ago at a music store in Jersey. This guy was amazing back then. I remember a story going around back then that he totally blew Setzer off the stage in London many moons ago. I was searching gretsch guitars and this came up. blast from the past man.

  • @awol1209 No comment...... -Billy

  • awesome playing man! sounds so old school :)

just on the colour of the guitar, is there a slight metallic tinge in the finish?

  • @bur4077 Thank you for the kind words..!! The finish is candy apple red so yes, it is metallic. -Billy

  • Don't care much for rockabilly but that was cool, great playing. Is that a thd hotplate you're using?

  • @cast390 Thanks for the kind words. Yeah...its a THD Hot Plate. Keeps the Bassman under control.. -Billy

  • Yes. Its the Setzer Hot rod model. I added the tone control and a dummy control to complete the 6120 look. The tone control makes it more versatile for me..! -Billy

  • Sweet!

  • THANK YOU!!!! -Billy

  • wow. I'm gonna give up :)

  • NEVER give up!!! Just buckle down and try harder. Take it slow and build it up. It takes time, patience and practice. You have a clip of yourself?? -Billy

  • not bad.pretty cool!

  • Hey, Thanks a lot!!!! -Billy

  • Great rockabilly! What's that box on the amplifier? And what amplifier is it?

    Thanks!

  • Thanks for the kind words!!! The amp is a clone of a 5F6-A tweed 4x10 Bassman I built a few years ago. The little box is a THD Hotplate power attenuator. Please feel free to ask any further questions!! -Billy

  • Is that Hot Rod stock or did u have those volume knobs installed?

  • Yes, that is a Hot Rod model. I put a Tone control in the guitar and added the second dummy knob for looks. It's more versatile for me this way. Good call...! -Billy

  • That was just a snipet, I would love to hear more of that, Very cool!

  • Wow Billy... that is such cool playing. I have watched this a LOT of times and find it very inspiring. I have a Gretsch 6120 SSU and a Rivera Venus 3 and have just got a Lovepedal Eternity. Now all I have to do is try to play like this and all will be good in my world.....

    Cheers Billy

  • Thanks! I will be posting more rockabilly in the near future. If you have any questions or I can help you please feel free to contact me!!! -Billy

  • Great sound! How much did that Gretsch cost?

  • Thanks for the comment! I think I paid $1500 for it a few years ago. I was on the search for a cowboy orange 6120 Setzer model but I saw this one and the candy apple red really knocked me out. Thanks again for your comment!!!

  • Thats great playing!!!

  • Thanks again!!!

  • That was great!

I have an Ibanez AFS75T. When I buy a proper jazzbox to replace it, I'm going to some TVJones pups in the Ibanez to give it a fake Gretsch-like sound.

  • Thank you! TV Jones pups are great and will probably sound awesome in your Ibanez which is a really good guitar btw!

  • Awesome riffage! Holy!

  • What's diference into your bassman and bassman brian setzer ?

    I love your tone gretsch!!

  • What's diference into your bassman clone and bassman use brian setzer ? super tone gretsch, I liver very much Billy,

  • My Bassman clone is based on the late 1950s 4x10 5F6-A model. Setzer's amp is an early 1960s 6G6-B model with a different circuit and 2x12 speakers. Very different amps. Thanks for the kind words!!

  • he play too fast :(

  • Is that a Bassman I see?

  • Yes. It is a 4x10 5F6-A clone I built. One of my all-time favorite amps.

  • Yeah, Setzer has great taste and made a great guitar there. Nice demo!

  • FREAKING AMESOme

  • that's cool man, I started to follow with my upright.

  • freakin awsome!!!! (:

  • Stand up and take a bow! That was excellent!!!!!

    Great sound, great playing

  • Thank you!!!!!

  • man if i ever heard someone playin like that at a guitar center or sumthin i would faint. you dont hear good guitarist like this a lot!

  • Loved the bass sound at 0:16.

  • nice playing , and that is one tasty guitar

  • Danny Gatton was awesome. I will keep that in mind. Thank you!!

  • Good stuff! If you take requests you should play us something from Danny Gatton's 88 Elmira Street album :)

  • Super sound Billy. I LOVE this clip. I wish I could get my Gretsch to sound as cool as that.

Hope you do some more rockabilly soon.

  • The guitar is a Gretsch Brian Setzer Hot Rod model. I added the two extra controls. One is a tone control and the other is just for looks. I like the functionality of the tone control and thought the guitar looked "empty" without the two controls you typically find on a Gretsch.

  • wow, i have the same guitar, how'd you go about adding the tone control?

  • It is just a plain old passive tone circuit that you would find on a Tele, P-Bass LP Jr. or whatever. Drill a hole and run some wire, add a cap and you're done. I can get darker jazzy tones now.

  • what kinda model gretsch is that?, it looks like a Brian Setzer HotRod, but those dont got tone knobs?,

or a tennesee rose, but yhis one had a peghead plate????

  • Ha! LOL! Good one!!! I will be doing some more soon and will use the Gretsch again. Thanks!!!!

  • I wish I lived next door to Billy and the walls were really thin and he practised at full volume day and night with his windows open.

Lucky is the neighbour of super Bill

  • I am using the Gretsch with TV Jones into an Electro Harmonix Memory Man into the 4x10 Bassman amp I built. That's it for this clip. Thanks!!

  • great sound!

what kind of effect you use?

    greetings

  • I was just joking around but the way Fender is going buying Gretsch, Guild and a bunch of other companies they just might someday!

  • what is this about fender buying Gibson... is that true?

  • Thanks for everything my man!!!!

  • I LOVE THAT SCREAMING RED GIT-FIDDLE seeing it in person just blew my mind ! WOW what a HOT ROD!!!!!

  • absolutely friggin awesome my man!

  • is gretsch owned by fender?

  • Yes, Fender owns Gretsch now. I think Fender bought Gretsch in 2005 but I am not 100% sure of the year. Who knows the way Fender is going maybe they will buy Gibson!!!

  • i fucking love you

    !

  • thanks billy awsome its boss as a skinned cat

    rave on brother

  • Sweet Gretsch!! Its almost bigger than the dude playing it.

  • you wouldnt happen to have a tab for this?

im an established guitarist but i only just started geting into rockabilly and this arrangment is amazing

  • what type of guitar is that

  • The guitar is a Gretsch Brian Setzer Hot Rod model. I added the two extra controls. One is a tone control and the other is just for looks. I like the functionality of the tone control and thought the guitar looked "empty" without the two controls you typically find on a Gretsch.
