Actually you couldn't be more wrong. These flies were originally tied for fishing, and to this day there are many who still fish them, mostly for fun and the nostalgia of it all. If constructed properly, a Classic Salmon Fly can be fished quite effectively.

I'd love to see more of these. Classic tying always gave me problems, especially material selection and preperation.
