  • @jdulmage1 To saving the world,i killed the vid logo

  • yea tha music rising at tha end doesn't help...

  • why do all the scary logos have to have a V (of doom?) or something like that in them?

  • This was scary.... why?

  • I never wanted to sleep again anyway. D:

  • MyScareFactor: None

  • @ThejhoanmanuelZone Too its the best logo ever

  • Those creepy synths use to scare me. I use to turn the channel immediately because I knew it was coming.

  • Who ever made this Network herd voices in there head.

  • @solideYe11 lol wwe refrence

  • I think its the additional five seconds of music at the end that makes it disturbing. But other than that I dont find it scary.

  • @UltimateDragon709

    Same here

  • HEY! Dad saw this as a kid!!! This was, well I think, in New York. Dad lived in Brick, New Jersey. But he told me it was entertaining. Not scaring the shit out of him.

  • I think the giant unexpected WOR logo sliding in may have something to do with the scary-ness

  • Was disturbing when I was a kid

  • This isn't so bad. The one that absolutely terrified me was the old "11 Alive" logo from the late 70s and early 80s. A bunch of duplicate logos would ascend from the bottom of the screen until the last one came up, resulting in a flash of light and a view of space. I'm sure it's here on YouTube someplace and, despite pushing 40, I STILL refuse to watch it.

  • considering this came late at night, at the end of the broadcast, it's af if it were the intent of rko/wwor to instill terror in their vewers. it IS scary!

  • This is actually one of the coolest logos ever.

WWOR-TV actually seems a lot cooler back then than it does now...

  • I don't find this logo scary at all.

  • Yeah, this Channel 9 logo was a real trip. But it made sense for our city in the mid-80's. Lol...

  • RKO Telivision needs an RKO.

  • more annoying than scary, lol

  • and it's clg wiki

  • I personally am fine with this logo. The beginning music isn't scary at all, and the ending smooth rise is just sort of confusing as you don't really know what note is truly playing (like a g-major or synthesized-harmony sound).

There are far too many comments under this video about the comparison of creepiness between this logo and the Russian BИD (Vid) logo, guys. If you want to see the other logo, just watch it.

  • SPOOKY!!!

  • RKO General was a division of General Tire & Rubber Company, which bought WOR-TV [Channel 9], New York, in 1955- at the same time they bought RKO-Radio Pictures from Howard Hughes...which they proceeded to mismanage into oblivion by 1958, yet retained their movie library, which became the keystone of WOR's daily programming for over 30 years. They, in turn sold WOR to MCA in 1987, which became WWOR-TV.

  • yawn....

  • I thought it was awesome when I was a kid. That black lighting bolt reminded me of a voltage battery commercial (I had toys that ran on voltage batteries, lol), and that 9 looked bad ass.

  • I think it's pretty cool actually...If I'm little and in a dark room yeah okay I'll say it would be scary but I think it's cool

  • Dude, if you think that this is disturbing, you haven't seen VID from Russia's logos.

    They were just OMFG.

  • The 60s had the corner on scary logos designed by dark forces to prey on the creepiest subconscious levels in vulnerable parts of your mind which were never meant to be stimulated. This? This is nothing.

  • Nah, good one,but this Finnish Television broadcaster intro is far more scary....especially the latter one....

    watch?v=5QTD9SbKw3A

    watch?v=e4ZdTSCtRjY&feature=related

  • Watch this late at night and you will never sleep again.

  • THAT WAS DISTURBING.

  • It sounds like something is about to reach out and grab u.

    Bwahahahahahahah...........

  • Yes, somewhat creepy. But you should see Stretch Films an Russian VID!

  • whats scary about this

  • This is awesome! TV logos suck nowadays. I miss these "creepy" logos on TV stations.

  • did u find it on closing logos gallery

  • I would say that this is a 7/10 scare level, but the scariest one I ever saw was BиC. With a scare level of 10/10 in my tastes.

  • WOR-TV - absolutely the scariest station on the New York dial in the 60's and 70's.

The ID slide would be left up for extended periods with no audio and for some reason I found that quite frightening.,

  • scare factor: Nightmare

  • Man, that synth was soooo retro! But yes, it is kinda spooky.

  • Sounds like the beginning of a Phantasm movie!

  • damn this is spooky

  • This is scary? How?

  • VERY SPOOKY

  • THIS scared the Bjesus out of me when I was little!!!

  • well, your not the only one.

  • damn....I forgot how evil of a logo this was...especially when I was like 5...This and the V of Steel put fear in me when I was a child

  • not as scary as LMNO productions lol

  • the grat big orange nine is actually a guy doing an extreme contortion of himself to suck his own nipples. Cant you tell?

  • i dont understand!!

  • i use to be scared of that logo but u did awesome like the video.

  • oo Thats BAD ASS

  • Reminds me of going "Back To The Future!"

  • Those New Yorkers would be scared by this logo.

  • I lived in the same area when I was a bit younger. I'm fortunate that I never saw this on TV. I would have been scarred for life.

  • OK nako ng ident ng space. WOR-TV was space ident until 1978.

  • this logo is a pisstake.

  • year 1985

  • The scariest logo in the world was russian "VID company"

    watch?v=DEMwrKQXJiw

  • hell yeah! i couldn't sleep when i saw that mask!

  • Not as scary as "Palace Video", and that was placed on childrens videos:

    watch?v=Z9Cohh2HeRI

  • @kosiak10851 VID tops anything American TV could do for a scary logo...that odd animation ending up in a big stone head.

Now if VID distributed Jack Webb's TV shows in Russia, between the Mark VII hammer and the VID head, THAT would be a logo combo!

  • @kosiak10851 YES! I totally agree!

  • @kosiak10851 With this link what you put, tree dies there will more injure death

  • at least I'm not alone on this logo. Scared the shiz out of me too when I was a kid.

  • YEA! I THINK IT WAS SCARY 2!

  • Well, it's not scary to me, but I will it is very creepy and very unusual for a logo. But if this came along my eyes when I was like 4, 5 or 6. I would most likely piss my pants.

  • the 9 is form WWOR-TV channel 9 new york

  • Yeah, it's really scary. But I think, there are no logos in the world which are scarier than ВиD's logo:

    watch?v=DEMwrKQXJiw

  • isn't RKO out of business? i have not seen them since they remade mighty joe young. i felt bad for the giant ape, and the girl (in the start of the movie, the main characters mother was killed trying to save the ape.)

speaking of apes, do you think that it is time for a planet of the apes MMORPG or a console RPG

get you hands off me you DAMN DIRTY APES!!!!!!!!!!

  • This logo scared the absolute living crap out of me. The tune puts you in an uneasy mood, then that tinkly noise at the end sent shivers up my spine. :( MAKE IT STOP MAKE IT STOPPPPPPP

  • @angryDAnerd - I hear ya...would always get a chill when I'd see this logo on Ch. 9 waiting for $ale of the Century or a Family Feud rerun to start!

  • @angryDAnerd Also, the 9 with the lines following was unexpected

  • @kargaroc386 What exactly is the thunder supposed to represent?

  • @dorourke105 RKO

  • I actually thought it was cool back then.

  • That is pretty damm freaky. Like they went out of their way to create something weird. That 9 is a little unsettling, 9 being the scariest looking number anyway, lol!

  • I never saw the number 9 as sometthing scary.

Imagine thought, a certain persons reaction if there was a 13 in the logo.

  • I cant seem to help but notice this small noise in the background going higher in pitch... everytime i watch this video, i notice that... odd

  • It was probably a moog synthesizer or some early-to-mid 1980s synth making that noise. It sounds like someone is playing a half-tone scale "up" on a synth.

  • No logos really scare me, even this

  • whats so scary about this one, I guess if your little and are in a dark room with this turned up all the way, maybe it would be scary but it really isn't all that scary...it's pretty cool actually

  • If you re like a 6 years old boy in your dark badroom in the end of the afternoon alone only with that TV light and this logo appears i can assure you this will be sacry...happened to me alot of times in my childhood!

  • Comment removed

  • THIS AIN'T SCARY.There are logos more scarier than this such like VID tv or s from hell

  • the music was definitely ominous

  • Come on. That ain't scary. I can sit here and watch this logo and not be affected by it.

  • RKO made this logo in1985. it's not scary to me at all!! it's kinda cool..... this video is neat.

  • Nah, that's not scary, at least not to me now. Maybe if I'd been little and grown up in New York.

  • SCARY SHIT

  • this one is scarier, the other is just a bastardized version of the Stone Cold Stunner

  • Thats the scariest RKO ever!!!

  • the wrestling move or this? I perfer this one lol

  • There is a lot more to RKO than ...how many here realise...

  • freaking scary...

  • IF my grandma sees this logo, it will give her a heart attack.

  • What's so scary about this?

  • This explains why the FCC ordered RKO out of the TV biz. ;)

  • I lived in miami,Fl most of my lifetime so in other words I never saw this logo

  • RKO? WWE?

  • They got some explaining to do lol

  • This is the *9 of doom*

  • YEEESH! I totally forgot about this. Those last 4 seconds of music are creepy...had I been 3 years old in the mid-80s this would have scared me witless.

  • the 9 is from W(W)OR 9 newyork.

gotta remember, these showed on the local stations.

  • wow.

  • That could be the scariest TV logo of all time. Creepy!

  • It kind of reminds me of HAL.

  • what the hell was that!

  • Okay, so what was supposed to scare the shit out of me?

  • only logos that is weird is snee oosh

  • FINALLY somebody mentioned Snee-Oosh!!!

thank you very much. being a Late 90s child

I used to watch Hey Arnold! all the time when I was seven. the snee-oosh logo scared the piss outta me!

  • @UnseenAGT

Really? I love Snee-Oosh. But it can definitely give you the heebie-jeebies alright.

  • @cougarghi: I used to see Snee-Oosh all the time at the end of every Hey Arnold episode (yep, I used to watch Hey Arnold). Snee-Oosh never scared me. I thought it was pretty amusing.

  • @UnseenAGT OMG...SNEE-OOSH SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME AND EVERYONE THOUGHT I WAS A SCAREDY CAT!!! FINALLY SOMONE UNDERSTANDS!!!

  • @cgsilverscreen2020

You're scared of the snee-oosh logo? then you are still 2 years old!!

  • @GDelva2003 I'm not afraid of it anymore. I stopped being afraid of it when I was like 7. Now I'm 19.

  • NO FREAKING LOGOS SCARE ME!!!!!!!!!!! oops... i am 9 and i just said that!!!

  • the rising note at the end is a bit creepy.

the lightning is a bit sudden, as well.

but since i take interest in these scary logos, i'm pretty much ok with it.

  • I don't find this WOR-TV 9 logo to be scary.

  • I don't find this logo scary & creepy, but it looks pretty retro & classic version of creepy. Don't you think?

  • Truly creepy.

  • I love this logo reminds me of arcade games back then at the local mall.

  • That was a little scary, and the movie gave the impression that there was gonna be a screamer at the end or something like that.

hey, that would be the worst logo ever! a screamer LOL

  • what does the 9 mean? it's pretty creepy just to have a random 9 pop in the logo

  • That 9 is for WOR-TV (now WWOR-TV) in New York. They were owned by RKO General until about 1987 (or somewhere around that year) when the FCC made RKO General sell off their TV stations. All RKO Television programs airing on WOR-TV showed this version of the logo. Any other stations showing RKO Television programs showed this logo without the 9. I've never been scared by a TV logo, even as a child. I must be a superhuman or something.

  • This is scarier than the movie logo, because of the lightning strike.

  • I agree...that lightning effect really makes all the difference!

  • whats scary about that one idk

  • LOVE THAT MUSIC

  • so profound. goosbumps coming

  • The 1933 logo is also really scary with the morse code beeps.

  • it's the synth noises that make it scary, as a child your like what the hell makes these noises????

Hope the noises don't echo in my head when im sleeping.

  • Да, страшно...можно сравнить с маской ВИД

  • Terrorist!

  • The only scary thing about this is the very end.

  • ill be funny

instead of that 9 flyin across the screen they should show a pic of Randy Orton doin a RKO on somebody as an replacement becuz his wrestling finisher is also called the RKO lol,...... waita min thatll be scary......

  • Sounds Scarier in reverse

  • Im gonna make a speakonia video about this scary logo

  • Ha, I remember this-(I was older then)

Unlike when Channel 11 Played "Thriller" in the 70's at night- (intro alert)

    (Ugh...)

    Good or Bad-

    Thanks for the Memories-Smiles...

  • yep... scarier than the "Evil P-head" of PBS [1971's version].

  • Channel 9 had the creepiestintros. Look at fright night. Million Dollar Movie was very powerful.

  • This is by far, the scariest logo of all. Even has some macabre lighting at the beginning and is all black!. The synth is really creepy too.

  • that ascending scale at the end doesn't sound scary to me, I find it happy sounding, except with the synth sound.

  • Scare Factor: Low to median! LOL!

  • lol no kidding

  • What if WNAC-TV (now WHDH-TV) used their own varient of this logo during their last year of RKO ownership, incorporating their "striped 7" logo from that time?

  • i dont remember seeing this one as a kid. Im glad i didnt because i would think this one was the worst. Turner Program Services (TSP) was pretty bad too

  • Not even CLOSE to scary.

  • The ending of the music is what really scares me! Thanks for posting this!

  • Creepy!!!

  • I actually think this logo is pretty cool. The animation shows a lot of style. The music is cool, and i love that ascending scale thing near the end.

I don't find this scary, but I do understand how it could scare some people.

  • This logo is known as "The Thunderbolt from Hell"!

  • Creepy, especially w/the visual effects...I remember seeing this logo @ the end of News 9 Primetime when I was a kid, waiting for w/e 8:30 game show WOR was running @ the time to start (they had several between 85-87).

  • I'd like to see WHBQ-TV's varient of this logo.

  • Same here .... it incorporated WHBQ's cool animated ID in the late '80s, featuring the word "THIRTEEN" spelled out in stylized letters, which then flipped around and the "IR" turned into the numeral "13." (do a search for "whbq ed craig" and you'll see the ID itself - not the RKO variant - on the 1986 noon newscast)

Takes me back to some great college memories in Jonesboro.

  • Hey guys, none of these logos are scary! You guys are stupid asses!

    Fixed that for you, love2654!

Now, quit looking like a noob!

  • Didn't think you'd like it, love2654!

  • love2654, Your an IDIOT!

  • it's not the scariest. VID and viacom (american VID) are the scariest

  • he's in the thunder bolt

  • look 0:01 a human creepy

  • For some people "not all" why are yall so afraid of moving pictures and weird music? Its just a copyright logo, lol

  • Logos are generally not regarded as scary so seeing something just slightly weird or creepy can be unnerving to some people (especially if they are easily excited).

But we were mostly scared of logos as children. I mean, we probably wouldn't be watching this if we didn't want to get nightmares.

  • For a certain person, why are you so concerned with people's reactions toward moving pictures and weird music? People can't really help the way they emotionally process things, and I'm sure you've been afraid of things in your life that many others wouldn't be. And anyway, no one's actually terrified by these logos as adults, it's more just memories from when they were children. Get over it.

  • becuz if yall were afraid of dat shyt, even as children den i guess yall had no heart. I mean come on wat is so scary about that? Maybe becuz i grew up in Atlanta i think? lol but im not mad, everyone hav fears somewhere i guess :)

  • yeah, like the mutual of omaha "indian head coin" thhat used to zoom across the t.v. during those insurance commercials on wild kingdom,or the first soul train locomotive coming full speed with the smoke billowing out the stack looking like it's gonna run out of the t.v.,THAT STUFF SCARED ME TO DEATH AS A KID! i don't know why it did,but it did. i used to pick up huge spiders and did a lot of stuff kids SHOULD be afraid to do,but those logos used to freak me the hell out! lol!

  • i miss soul train

  • @soln4suhreborn The Sweeping transitions? Those gave russian kids epilepsy form VID!!!

  • This is not a scary logo, this is only a weird logo.

  • This is the scariest logo I have ever seen! The logo and the music are scary! That 9 or whatever it is is scary and cheesy looking aswell! This is scarier than the VID mask,V of Doom,or Universal Globe of doom!

Imagine this music with the vid mask, that would be super scary!!

  • @magicbird05 *stomps vid mask* im not afraid of this or vid or v of fucker of UNIVERSAL

  • Not scary, but reminds me of Legend of Zelda chimes when you come near a healing fairy fountain.

  • Hi, how could that be scary? Were you also scared of the animated NBC Peacock(if you're old enough to remember that)?

  • It's VHS version so the video is in very bad quality.

  • KHJ-TV had the exact same animation (though their 9 logo was different) in the early 90's. At first, it was just the RKO animation at the bottom, then they started flying in the 9 the same way. I myself sought counseling for years afterward (kidding about the last part).

  • What's seen here is the WOR-TV version of this logo. It also existed (without the 9) on 1980s prints of RKO movies prior to 1987 when Turner bought the RKO film archive.

Versions exist for all the RKO General-owned stations.
