What a truly lovely three songs these were, (in spite of the Bonnie Prince Charlie song), never bettered in any prom since. Lets hope the spirit of these songs keeps the union of our three mighty Kingdoms together
The sum of our strengths is less than the strength of our sum. Please stop devolution and keep the United Kingdom united and Britain Great. This beautiful song shows the way life should be and the proms at this point demonstrated the best of our isles
I don't get it - what does the main orchestra and audience in Royal Albert Hall do while the other 3 songs are being sung at 3 different places? Do they watch through a live video recording, or have 3 different events just been strung together in video for dramatic reasons?
@ILUVlupin Agree - we have to dig hard to find them down under, don't we? When it all gets too hard spend a night at the Opera House. It's a truly a world class cultural experience which we should be proud.
@ILUVlupin Agree - we have to dig hard to find them down under, don't we? When it all gets too hard spend a night at the Opera House. It's a truly a world class cultural experience which we should be proud. But wouldn't it be great to have a Proms Night like this?
These aren't just kiddies. The selection process for being in *any* choir (in th UK) is harsh - you have to be pitch perfect, no electronics, one chance at selection.
These kids were selected from all the other pitch perfect kids to sing tonight.

oh yes tis true. we proclaim we hate each other but respect each other more than we know! Tis truly britannia. ENGLAND WALES SCOTLAND NORTHERN IRELAND AND THE EMPIRE
Danke sehr fur alles dem "Georgen".Das du hast uns geiben. Wenn England hat kein Konigen, Deutschland hat uns geschenkt! So there is hope for you yet(Sorry about the schoolboy German).
And when exactly did we not have a ruling Queen born of our nation. Only one has taken a defunct German royal as an escort. Not exactly a gift, more a favour. He did not give us our music or our pride. thank you for your love of our culture.

The empire is dead, you are deluded. I love this island but hate imperialism and colonialism. You should be thakful the welsh can still sing that tune with all those past anti welsh policies. Hope lies in the smouldering rubble of empire
If you were 'truly' British you would include cornwall in this list if you include small nations like Wales. You only include Wales because it undenialably in your face. Poor Cornwall is always left out.
It also has its own parliament (that hasn't met in a few hundred years), and is also an island - a river completely cuts it off from the mainland, along with its own language. It is arguably not only a county and a duchy but a country as well, without really being any of them. :) Fun!
@fishcat42 the only place Cornwall is cut off from the 'mainland' between Saltash and the City of Plymouth. I'm not sure that a few feet of dried up streams seperating parts of Cornwall with Devon to the north of the county makes it an island.
how Beautiful. I love these songs. why we do not have something like this in Italy? I will try to attend the concert next september. God save the Queen!
I dont understand all the diffrent flags... isint the Proms about being British??? I dont get why people are there waving american, danish, papal, german flags... anyone care to help me on this...???
I would say that though it is perhaps celebrating in a British way it is really an international event, afterall not all the music that is played at the Proms (on the night or indeed throughout the season) is solely British. I think it is a positive thing that all sorts of people can come to a place/country and wave their own flag and have fun.
I would tentavily suggest that regardless of nation people are still reveling in the Britishness of it all. I comment as an outsider having never had the plesure of being there on the last night.
Wow! Those 3 "new" songs that were added to Henry Wood's "Fantasia on British Sea Songs" replaced not only "Farewell, Ye Spanish Ladies', but also a clarinet solo that lead to "Home, Sweet Home".
The broadcast was different from what happened in the RAH. It was alright inside the Hall, but perhaps not as noisy as previous years but it is no longer possible to bring a rucksack full of party poppers inside the hall as you know.

Well, the unelected monarchy is descended more from the Brythonic (and Goedelic) peoples than from the Teutonic English...

It could also be due to the fact that Wales is a separate country of the United Kingdom, while Cornwall is merely a county of England.

Cornwall is not a county officially, it is officially a duchy. It is a county unofficially under law. FACT. But ture it is treated like a county

Trust the ever so politically correct BBC to ask for the alterations. Much as the bicentennial celebration of Trafalgar was a farce.
