  • Exceptionally well put.

  • nice video.. really educating...

  • Good one.

  • great stuff but we do it better give us a call

  • meh hippy

  • @js111410 oh yes of course, one of the most distinguished professors (of physics) at one of the world most prestigious universities (cambridge) not to mention being chief scientific advisor to the UK government. yes very well thought out argument there js111410

  • Sucks

  • Nice to see the author of the book withouthotair com on video. great reading.

  • Too many people in the world. Get rid of humans and the earth can get healthy again.

  • There will be a revolution in energy soon. Free energy is on the horizon. There is no shortage of energy in our universe. Hydrogen off of water is only one new way to free up energy. Tesla knew of ways to get free energy. Technology will find it.

  • Hey free energy is the way! Sun is free (Thank God no government can't control that power) or else we would be in big trouble. But suppression of free energy devices they may control little while. Until these devices will hit the critical mass. Then will be the way of life. Free power for all, no pollution, and no bill either.

  • Great video & points simply yet clearly made (despite a few here who don't get it). I think the figures are quite shocking. How about another vid with some realistic answers to these questions - using technology that is available or emerging now?

  • I think we should gradually lower our energy consumption to a level where our needs can besatisfied by using so called renewables only.

  • Visit earthandair energy ltd and save money on your energy bills by installing Heat pumps or solar to your house in the North West or South East of England!

  • Has no one thought of drastically reducing the world population?Otherwise we are heading for the buffers in every respect.

  • I agree with him 100%, all this replacing of lighting, unplugging your appliances and battery chargers is frivolous. Producing cars fueled by hydrogen that is a bold step in the right direction, cars worldwide consume two thirds of our fuel or more, power production and other utilities make up the rest. Britain recently said it would make it mandatory that no more incandescent light bulbs be produced or sold, light bulbs are not the problem!

  • How about build a time machine, go back and apologize to young Nikola Tesla then give him a few million for the time he will spend fixing everything we need now. Seems its all been done long ago.... How about we start using it.

  • If people approach the problem in a broad way it will be best.

i.e grow your food yourself organically, or set up/join a CSA like one in stroud.

Insulate your home, use public transport as the norm. LED light bulbs and CFL's are the future!

Regard gadgets inc cars, flying, take away food etc as wrong

And try to see the good in renewable energy instead, if your apathetic about 300 nuke stations, you can be same about wind farms, hydro schemes etc they don't leave deadly waste like Uranium

  • excellent work!

  • Except we couldn't go with nuclear power for long, we're hitting peak uranium in a decade or two. In a year or two, if we increase the capacity tenfold.

  • hook something up to your bike so that it collects the energy you use and then plug it in for use at home - the energy is around us and we just dont look. ;) {what about solar panels on all houses as well as having wind, etc.?}

  • @dAlen7 good idea but yet solar and wind energy are new types so they are way too expensive. Give it a few years

  • I'm confused I thought my electricity consumption was high, according to my figures I only use 24 x 40w bulbs per day not 125 as in video.

Is this exageration on purpose to make a point like so many Climate scientists today or is this guy just bad at maths or am I wrong?

Calcs energy consumption is about 24kw / day 1kw costs about 12p so total annual cost 24 x 12 x 365 = £1,051.20 if this guy's calculations are correct everybody else must be paying about £5,000/year for their electricity!

  • The number he gives is a national average... some people might be lower (like you) others higher!

Furthermore it's not just electicity, it's the total energy consumption. For instance if you take the bus, your share of the energy needed to run the bus is included in that total.

  • @pdc7acres

    You're missing something here.

You count all sources of consumption, not just your electricity bill. Like how driving an average car (not an SUV) 50km per day makes for +40 bulbs.

So, the total energy consumption here is CONVERTED to lightbulbs of energy. And a lot of sources are not counted here I believe, such as food. Eating meat is a huge boost on your energy demands, even if it doesn't show up in electricity bills. It will, eventually, show in the cost of meat however.

  • that's a seriously helpful, informative, thought-provoking video. Thanks very much.

  • Anti-nuclear ! Detest leaving the waste behind or living with risk of accident. Holitistic approach required eg. reduce usage, invest in new technology and research - apparently a new efficient system of gasification (of coal) has been developed. The physicist exhibited a narrow way of thinking - which is a bit surprising. Look at cost we pay for oil dependency both political and in human lives. Don't waste money on nuclear power stations - spend on new tech and dependency reduction instead.

  • I would like to see more discussion about insulation. Clearly, we use a lot of energy for heat or for air conditioning. A very well insulated house can reduce heat expenditure by 2/3rds. Straw bale, or the newer soy foam spray on insulation. New houses should be built with 4 or 5 times the current typical R value, sealing all the cracks. The future will be called The Age of Insulation.

  • He has got numbers wrong!

One modern, 2.3MW wind turbine will provide enough power to run 1000 homes, not 200 people.

  • A 125 lightbulbs?? 2000 wind turbines per nuclear power station? I doubt there's any place left for 2000 turbines in the Netherlands, so I guess we're never going to get rid of those nuclear power stations.

    How about solar energy?

  • Nuclear plants are not a solution because they have a very big unanswered question in the process: What do you do with the nuclear waste? It is comparable with putting your kids in an air plane that has nowhere to land after take-off.

  • A toaster isn't allways on...

  • when an appliance is plugged into the electricity net it uses power.

  • Well technically it is, most people have their toast plugged in at all times.

Which is still getting electric sent to it, but when you push the handle down the heat comes into play.

  • The toaster might consume a few microwatts or something with it's handle up, who cares?

  • @Hals, you misunderstand - a 40W bulb switched on all the time represents 'A Unit' for measuring energy: 1KW/h (I think he said), you can then compare how much energy a toaster uses when it is on (ie how many KW/h's of power are needed to run it), and how much energy a car uses when it is driven.. etc. Meaning things can actually be compared on a like for like basis.

  • To make it simple he uses the light bulb as unit of energy. What the average UK person uses daily in terms of energy (light, heating, bus, train, car, computer in office, etc.) is equivalent to having 125 40W light bulbs switched on per person.

  • Good video... And good comments, but personally I do not understand why cold fusion is not a serious solution, and I know it is considered a scientific dead end due to the fiasco that happened before, but out of the 120 odd independant recreations of the original experiment, a few did see a significant rise in energy... So it does work, it's just not being taken seriously by the scientific community

  • The ITER is the multinational project about investigating nuclear fusion (not cold). It costs 1000 million euros a year, and it will be finished in 2020. We're working on it, but we need something in the interim, and renewables could do a lot. If more than seven countries are putting such an amount of money in the project, you bet it's being taken seriously enough. However, it would require even more money.

  • cold fusion is not a serious solution, BECAUSE it is a scientific dead end............

    Do the math?

  • Form is emptiness aparently.

  • I was clever enough to go to Cambridge dammit. I have calm dulcit tones and an analytical mind. Boo hoo.

  • nuclear fusiun is nuclear power but with no residue

    (sorry for bad grammar)

  • Put a biking helmet on your daft bald head! Then maybe you won't waste ventilator energy someday!

And insulate your bloody houses! 'Kin nearly froze to death in England and I'm from one of the coldest cities on earth!

  • They could put "turbine generators" in every river, and they would generate enough elcetricity to run cities.

But that would be free, so its no good.

You would get more value from a scientist, if you just popped him on the fire, and used the heat cretaed, to cook a tin of beans.

  • what would that do to the rivers eco system? I'd like to see numbers on that one. IF it doesn't make a 'dent' then that could be a good idea, yes. I'm afraid it won't be enough, though, rivers don't stream rapid enough, that's why they make dams and stuff

  • So what if he's form Cambridge ?

So was Brid Flu ! (possibly)

Anyway, energy is FREE. Go and stand in the sun, for 5 minutes and imagine that heat multiplied by the amount of land around you (pro rata your body size).

Look at the plants which pop up out of the ground, as soon as the sun comes out.

Energy is FRE. Scitentists are the problem, not the sure. they find ways to make it UN-free.

They are NO use to Cambridge university, if they create FREE energy, only costly energy - ask him !

  • All we need to do is perfect Hydrogen Power technology and then well be fine

  • So I heard that the universe is not black but a very dark blue, is it true?

  • it's true, it is made this dark blue colour by the stars' light, and it is NOT black as many children and people would say.

  • global warming isnt real and its nothing to be bothered about. the earth naturally gets colder and warmer over time. Look at the ice age for eg. Doing stuff like this to save energy is pointless when you have places like las vegas, japan, new york using huge amounts of electricity every night.

  • Well las vegas uses a huge solar farm in nevada but i agree

  • someone that understands it. there is no proof we cause global warming, and if you would check further than some stupid guy named ''Al Gore'' or something, you would see that there is global warming on pluto as well. and if you look beyond our solar system, there is global warming in the Andromeda system as well, and so on.... GLOBAL WARMING IS EVERYWHERE! WE DO NOT CAUSE IT!

  • Wrong, global warming is largely the fault of humans and by the time you are middle aged you will know first hand the effects of not acting against it.

  • Even if we do not cause it, we should react upon it, and change the way we live and use energy.

  • Yeah, it just happens to start after the rise of CO2 in the atmosphere. Which happened to start with the Industrial Revolution. Mere coincidence, of course. And the fact that CO2 keeps the heat? Mere coincidence. Let's just not look at facts, they might spoil our SUV rides.

  • interesting, its time they start building some more turbines before they can't build it anymore. but who are they?

  • LEGEND

  • personally I am hoping they perfect fusion, then we are sorted forever, as much energy as we want with only helium as a waste product, just imagine, but why the fuck does everyone think someones going to wave a magic wand and fix this? it isn't doom and gloom but we don't exactly have a decent plan sorted yet

  • helium is a problem, there isn't much helium left ;), so nuclear energy will soon be history

  • Helium is the waste gas, not the gas used, besides, with fusion a little goes a very long way

  • Trouble with nuclear fusion is that its destined to be just a theory without a practical application for the next 30 years (or so at best). If it works efficiently eventually then a scientific dream would have come true, but in the meantime we cannot wait to take decisive action against corbon dioxide which is poisoning our entire races future on this planet.

  • Totally true, i just mean it would be good to have

  • sorry i made a mistake, and helium isn't the only waste..... you forget about nuclear waste which stays active over decades.

  • nuclear waste stays active over decades? DECADES??? CENTURIES!!!!! If not longer.

  • Change on a horrifying scale is necessary if humanity is to survive and we are all too petrified to act before mother nature or our own greed will force us before catastrophic situations.

    Good luck to our children,

    sorry for not doing enough...

(went on a bit of a rant there i admit but the principals are worth serious consideration)

  • Climate change is happening, we are participating but we are not the cause and we will not nor can not stop or reverse it.

The Earth does not need saving, OUR world/civilisation requires saving.

Maybe it is time we admitted that our 20th century, capitalistc civilisation like so many before us cannot survive and more importantly, cannot sustain us.

  • using up energy? kind of an oxymoron..energy is only converted from form to form..not used.

  • Well i think we are already to late and try to do the best we can. I can not see what will happend if we do what we doing now.

  • nuclear energy would be the solution, also a well monitored nuclear power station is 100% safe and practically no pollution.

  • no info on comments just speculations so no need to read them buddies :D

  • but what its wierd is that this fosil fuel companies that kill electric cars are in fact reserching better and better batteries for electric cars because they whant a plan B ... when the fosil fuel is over they will come and say WE HAVE THE BEST ELECTRIC BATTERY ...again for profit and money ...you will see that when the oil is over we will have a better quality of life but it will be TOO LATE ... they don't care about you ... you shud care about you ...

  • why should they care? their lives is about making profit, every shop main goal is profit, if they say : NORMALLY FOR 30$, NOW FOR 15$! , it's usually just to lure you, for if you would check one of their shop's magazine..... you would see that it has always been 15$, so it hasn't become cheaper ;). same thing with oil, just that oil gets more expensive for: ''it has almost ran out, and soon it won't be here anymore''. but if you'd check the real files, you would see there are tons and tons left.

  • and therefore, it's just fucking bullshit that ''it has almost ran out''

    good explanation?

  • just think about it ...if they make electric cars the whole fosil fuel car industry will colapse ....the oil filter companies, engine factories will have to be closed because a electric car doesn't need all this and there will be a huge loss of money thats why they kill the electric car ...

  • geothermal + solar+wind ....thats the solution .......you will see that after the oil is over they will come whit some solutions that exist today and they will say "ooooo this was soo simple why didn't we think about that " .....why didn't you think about that because your mind was fucked up by money and profit not the health care of the population......remember this

  • Great vid, however, no mention of solar power. When are the government going to get off their arses and help housholds with decent grants. I looked into a wind turbine for my house and it would have taken 12 years for the turbine to pay for itself before even saving me a penny!

  • ...also they knew this ages ago. even i used energy saving bulbs and was recycling in 1998 onwards, why the sudden trend to shove it in our faces, why suddenly have the politicians woke up to this after all this time? They sold off our nuclear stations in the 170's/80's or we would have been at the forefront of all this now. I agree with wind turbines, as long as they dont obstruct view/sceneic views, or cause noise pollution. they can be put into the sea where no one can see them or hear them.

  • one of the problems with putting them in the sea is the salt water air will corrode the metal used on the turbines. And with that comes more maintenance, and lets face it, its harder to access these turbines by boat than it is by car.

  • I agree we need more solar power, new buildings should have them on them mandatory, and if cars can run on water, and olive oil for god sake, then why arnt they just doing that? surely the goverment cant be allowed to reign rule over making us use petrol driven cars, and hence fossil fuels, its not even that we are running out, its that we are guilt mongered in an unresourceful way. its the earth thats being affected, not the lack of oil etc. they fixate on the wrong things to be prioritised.

  • the car running on water isn't a good solutio think about it every day people die from thirst ...the best solution is electric ....there are cars that run completly on electricity that can compete hand to hand whit fosil fuel cars .... there was an electric plant that produced bateries electric cars .....Texaco bought it and stoped the production .......

  • so far u dont find a sufficient way to produce electicity without fossil fuels, its more efficient to drive with fossil fuels burned in ur motor than driving with electricity produced of burned fossil fuels in power stations...and by the way: u need huge batteries in ur electric car, either u take inefficient heavy lead batteries, more efficient batteries like lithium-ion or else are much to expensive and moreover there isnt enough of lithium in here

  • There's enough lithium reserve base for billions of cars.

Conventional lithium batteries have piss poor energy density compared to what is theoretically possible. If you can make rechargable metal-air batteries(there's a quite promising ionic liquids approach being developed) you can beat the energy density of conventional lithium iron phosphate by a factor of ten with plain old zink.

  • New channel everyone

Any video you want, just msg me what you want :D

    sub me

    mL

  • i love wasting energy i pay for it so why can't i waste it

  • because the earth is whats fuckin up.

  • if he's a kinetic physicist from Cambridge...odds are he's quite birlliant man. Try to listen; he's making A LOT of sense.

  • MEEEEEENNNNN...

    haw he can't do this??????

  • good video. I think we should have wind and solar power MANDITORY on a roof for each new building. I think it is insane that new buildings without them are approved. The more solar panels are sold, and thus made, the better and cheaper they will become. Also all outdoor lighting should be LED. ( Indoor LED doesn't save that much power as you need to turn up the heat because the light bulbs are not producing heat anymore. )

  • This is a great vid but WHY did they not make the connection in the introduction to the light bulb being a UNIT of electricity ie what PEOPLE pay for this will add to their comprehension surely????

  • Come off it - you oculd run cars on water, if you wanted to.

Scientists are vampires, who mess around, and tinker with htings, for HUGE amonts of money.

Lets get rid of the scientists, who keep inventing BAD things for the planet. THEY are the murderers of the planet, not the saviours.

    Kill scientists

    kill scientists

    kill scientists

  • I am for wind turbines and solar panels. Cheapest energy.

  • Saving the plannet is all well and good but... Wheres that man's bicicle helmet!?

  • fret not ! he is a brilliant man he could have calculated the rate of him falling off from his bike. thats why he doesnt need his bicycle helmet =)

    xD

  • How much energy would we save if we stopped making film after film about energy wastage?

  • how many psychologists does it take to change a light bulb...

    one..

but the light bulb must really want to change......

  • Comment removed

  • We'd only need 299 nuclear power stations if we got rid of all the sex cases, terrorist and criminals serving life sentences - but the government hasn't a clue as always.

  • Why is not big business not more challenged to become more energy efficient? there are thousands of lights in the store fronts in the shopping centers like the MetroCentre, why should it always fall back on theGDB's (General dogs bodies) to do all the energy saving.

Also, maybe this sounds daft, but why dont municipals start from 10 and finish at 4.00pm in the winter months?.. why the need to have this fixed 9.00am start?..

Surely a massive amount of electric could be saved with this strategy -

  • Comment removed

  • This may seem like a stupid comment to most. However! Why are we not developing Liquid Hydrogen plants for the production of Energy. Hydrogen is the most Abundant element in the Univerise and therefore will never run out, the only emission produced is water. I know that its difficult 2 produce L.Hydro. However if the Goverments are so for Green energy shouldn`t this be our main aim to make the production of this fuel easier. I`m sure its the energy companies themselves that are holding this up.

  • Electricity is needed to produce hydrogen. Hydrogen doesn't exist on it's own in a usable for on earth. So it does need to be harvested. Hydrogen at the moment is generated from electricity that comes from fossil fueled stations. Also the laws of thermodynamics stop us for getting more out of then then is used to create it.

Nuclear is the most viable (where i come from, Australia) then wind, then solar/hydro, then perhaps geothermal.

  • Nice point actually. I read about China and a European country to make solar panels for electricity. Other developed countries should some forward into developing cheap solar panels and use them in photolysis of water to produce H2.Then pressurizing it to produce liquid form will actually keep overall production cheap. Hmm.. maybe it's the sunlight availability holding back?

Too bad I'm from Bangladesh. Can't afford such high expectations for my own country :(

  • That is inefficient. Again you will be using electricity to make H2, then burning the H2 to make electricity. You have a net loss, minds well just use the electricity made by the solar panels. H2 can be harvested from some chemical manufacturing though. Geothermal is the best in my opinion, but I'm waiting for environmentalists to claim it causes global warming from heat taken from below the surface.

  • This inefficiency can be tolerated for the sake of the 'green fuel' aspect since we're basically getting it from sunlight and water. Chemical processes are way too inefficient and expensive. Geothermal is not enough or available(there's only 1 geothermal power station in the world today).

On the other hand solar panels are real cheap when in mass production(googled it). So initial cost can easily be recovered as there's basically no running cost(sunlight and H2O are free!).

  • Surely he SAVED a lot of SHAMPOO. Good for ocean pollution.

    :-D

  • YEs, very good for a single, living alone and with so little needs.

Try to save energy just with 1 or 2 babies or some guests.

    :-D

  • Common sense at last, but what I cannot understand is why people are so opposed to these wind turbines, surely the alternative i.e nuclear is a far worse option.

Simply because with nuclear, if there is an accident, bye bye people..

I have no doubt at all that we need to move away from both a coal and oil based economy and wind power and wave power must be realisable alternatives. I also cannot understand why every home is not fitted with solar pannels....

  • In regards to why everyone doesn't have solar panels comes down to money. It's a very long term investment using solar panels. A very low interest guaranteed investment will have a better rate of return than installing solar in most areas. So solar is still economically inefficient for most people, especially if they use credit - then it is a net financial loss.

  • Mate, you could stick a RADIATOR, full of water, on your roof, and it woudl get RED hot, on most days.

Solar energy has been cornerd off, and made ot be as EXPENSIVE as possible (like everything else). The Indians are making £1,000 cars. Why are we paying £20,000 ? Becuase WE have to carry teh money suckers of capitalism !

  • and pay taxes, and pay more in wages/shipping costs.

  • I would agree. I am just stating more people don't go to solar because of these rediculous costs. There are far more efficient processes for generating useful energy, but it is the oil companies who have bought up all the patent rights to the said designs. One thing you might want to check out is "the Venus Project" google will lead ya to it. You're right about capitalism - we are slaves to the Rothchilds and Rockefellers.

  • Superb. Especially the choice of the common unit of the light-bulb.

  • I think we should go back to candles ...

  • "Cambridge University physicist, David Mackay, in a passionate, personal analysis of the energy crisis in the UK..."

That's "passionate" by English (i.e., England) standards.

  • passionate doesnt have to mean act like a twat on speed.

  • I thought it was a good video and I'm going out to get myself a mini wind turbine.

  • 0:27 D:

  • That was very informative and well done!

  • why dont they just combine everything ?

  • We should also look at the economy from a scientific perspective.

    1. Unemployment is caused by high wages.

    2. There is no profit in socialism, only taxation.

    3. Liberals do not understand economics so they should not be allowed to vote.

  • 1. The only cause? The main cause? One of many causes? Be more specific, so I can begin dismantling your argument.

    2. Gross oversimplification, fallacious logic. You just flew over hundreds of years worth of socioeconomic theory to arrive at a conclusion that doesn't even make sense.

    3. Correction. People with strong and uninformed/asinine opinions such as yours SHOULD be represented anyways, because that forms the foundation of the Republic which you and your founding fathers love so dearly.

  • And you're Canadian. Federation then, point 3 still applies.

  • We need more nuclear power. Do some research... it is clearly the most logical way to go

  • dangerous tho. If the waste leaks(which it inevitably will in the long run) then serious damage will be done

  • improve the quality of CFL's so they will really last as claimed so I will stick to them. Personally I feel ripped off, by the high cost of CFL, so I keep going on incandescent

  • This is unbelievable... I have the same light bulb!

  • Lol

  • What would be the best is that everytime a man has a wank they burn 100 calories so if we could get some of that energy by getting this guy to invent a machine that could get the energy instead of him sitting around making videos then it would be problem solved

  • Build the nukes.

Your nation has already switched over to CFLs Right

Oh and ignore the climate scientists they are even less accurate than the weathermen.

  • jgvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvjjgggggggggggggvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvggggggggggggggjjjjjjjjjjvjgvjgvjgvjgvjgv

  • that is unbelievable.... i got the same toaster

  • haha nice one :P

  • lmk

  • cool

  • Isn't it a bit ironic that he's using energy to make the video and we're using it to watch?

  • how else would you go about informing 95,000 ppl. flyers?

the pros outway the cons genius

  • That guy has a nice sweater.... And also has a nice vid

  • In the USA, we need to ring Washington DC with hot air turbines. Obama alone could produce enougn hot air to power half of the US, and with the rest of Congress running their mouths...energy problem solved.

  • tomorrow I am going to move out of my house, sell my clothes, and walk into the forest. There I will live as a wild animal and kill beasts with a wooden stick. This is how man will solve the energy crisis.

  • epic comment

  • lol joooooker

  • Check out my channel it's funny

    / \ Hey!!

I started a video blog and everyone who sees my videos like them.. Please, take a minute and check out my videos.. Just click my username eatmcdonalds and tell me what you think :) Thank you..

  • Maybe it is just me, but I think all landfills should have incinerators that power electrical generators.

Environmental points: C02 is way better than methane (which is formed when organic material decomposes rather than being burned)

The heavy metals can be scrubbed out like they are in coal plants.

Capitalist point: Free energy source for electricity, we are going to dispose garbage anyways.

    What do you all think?

  • What can we do? Were the givers of our own demise. we have raped the Earth so badly in the short time that we have inhabited this planet since electricity and other fuels.

  • kardeş sen ne yapıyon ya

  • They should find a way to get energy from rain because we get enough of that in England.

  • Dear Christ, you really think that gas oil and coal are in infinite supply? you sir, are an idiot.

  • Oh yeah, that's a good point, i'll think about that. No, my mistake, that's absolute bullshit. that would be a decent argument, except for the fact that global warming has been proven you cretin, why do you think that the VAST majority of the Earth's population are idiots, and you and a few of your fuckwit friends are right, get YOUR head out of your ass, and realise maybe everyone thinks the opposite to you is because you're WRONG.

  • To conorr6.

I greatly enjoyed the Tim Minchin quote. I would suggest referencing him in the future, or using your own phrases.

On to the key issue, global warming.

It is not about whether global warming is happening, it is rather about how serious its effects will be. This is why improvements must be made in the global warming models before action is taken. Even Freeman Dyson agrees with this.

I think the more important issue is our reliance on Saudi Oil. That is good enough for nuclear.

  • I'm sorry, i didn't realise i wasn't allowed to say things that other people have said before, without listing all the people that have said it, for this, i apologise, but i'm glad you enjoyed it. what i'm discussing with republicanpower is about whether or not global warming is happening, as he/she has denied its existence.

as for everything else you said, i don''t dispute that.

  • Its all well and good my friend. The reason I suggest referencing him is because I want more people to listen to his song, particularly "storm" which is my favorite.

I think Minchin has a lot to offer both sides left and right.

The green house effect is obviously occurring, from that point it can be concluded that increased C02 or methane will increase the earths temperature. What has not been accurately shown, is how much and how fast. (at least to my knowledge)

  • yeah, he deserves more publicity than he gets lol, but anyway, let's stop spamming this video with talk of tim minchin (incidentally, anyone else reading this, go and look up tim minchin) but yeah. see you around.

  • amazing!

  • amazing

  • I listened to this farce for 1:02. "coal, oil, fossil fuels are going to run out...". America has enough coal, at current rates, to last hundreds of years. Leftwing lying kooks have been saying since the 70's that we've reached peak oil and will be out in 10 yrs. That is nearly 40 yrs ago. There is nothing wrong w/alternative energy, but when you lie to accelerate it's usage, something else is going on. MMGW is an absolute, unmitigated hoax.

  • He didn't mention solar energy.

  • Thank goodness.

  • solar energie is not reliabile enough

  • Bet you cant click this! :P

  • Interesting talk but I'm sure in the next 40 years technology will advance enough for us to need less energy. I believe new ways of harnessing alternative powers will become mainstream. I am sure relying on nuclear will only cause more separation between all levels of society. The best option for the meantime is to cut back and restrict usage until such options open up. I am not against nuclear but I think it causes great divides in the communities and general public opinion.

  • So do fossil fuels, war, solar power, wind power, democracy, etc.

I think that is a very bad reason to restrict anything. The best way is to provide good reliable information on nuclear power, fossil fuels, solar power, wind, etc.

That way the public majority would make a better decision in this matter.

  • Is he an actor?

    He seems very familiar...

  • are you thinking of the guy who introduces "Grand Designs" property programme, Kevin McCloud. They look and sound very similar.

  • I thought tidal related energy had the greatest potential but we haven't figured out effective ways to harness it properly.

  • Hey. That's a nice investigation. Unfortunately I think your video will not change anything... its sad. If You explained fanancial issues then probably much more people would listen You. Its the World where we life in and avaibality of electricity is as high as people get used to it.

  • heres a question: how much energy is being wasted in the heat emanating from my laptop. it does nothing but cook my balls

  • The heat of your laptop is a byproduct of electrical switching. Everytime a transistor switches state some energy is lost as heat. Your CPU switches states billions of times a second (assuming GHz), this causes the excess heat. If they could design it away while still being cost effective, they would.

    Peace brother.

  • Britain's electricity companies are mainly Spanish and French owned and they are committed to nuclear power as it is the only current means of supplying all our hungry power demands. So it looks like Britain will get nuclear power stations whether they want them or not! What's the alternative, switch off the giant flat screen tv - I can't see many Brits wanting to do that!!!

  • I wish I could ride a bike to work but that's illegal in my town x(

  • lol how fucking stupid is THAT?!?!

  • well, the law doesn't say it's illegal, just that you are allowed to ride a bike only on a lane designated to bikes. But guess what, there aren't any. Plus you must wear some reflective jacket, even if it's daylight and summer.

I can only use my bike for fun and exercising, in the back alleys and on the fields outside of town.

  • HOLY CRAP, He's not wearing a helmet when he's biking, that's dangerous, you can get killed.

  • youtube uses 3 lightbulbs per person...
