  • So much for gravity...

    BUSTED!

  • obviously fake ad.. nice editing though.

  • BUSTED!

  • @AlwaysDisagreeing Good perception!

  • MYTHBUSTERS PROVED THEM SHITHEADS WRONG!!

  • mythbusters proved it false there is no way you can beat gravity unless you have a formula 1 race car

  • the glaringly erroneous assumption is that you have to start from 0 mph, which was never explicitly stated or shown in the commercial. All he says is that "this lexus is will attempt to cover the same distance event faster" (in a matter of seconds). The mythbastards got it wrong...again!

  • mythbusters screwed their experiment up bigtime, they never reached the top speed they used to calculate the distance they needed, for the reduced speed they we'r travelling at.. -.-

  • @slekkis It doesn't matter how fast they were going, they shortened the distance of the car on the ground so that it would be equivalent, and they went 5 miles per hour above the target limit. Plus, the car from the air hit 5 seconds before the car on the ground even passed. you are a Mythbusters n00b

  • Doesn't matter if the car is an IS350 or not. . . If it can maintain close to 150 MPH then it will work in the experiment

  • Just finished watching ;P!

  • I doubt the budget they have could afford to destroy a more expensive car lol! Still I doubt a IS350 could beat a falling car within a millisecond of another car hitting the ground. Damn cool commercial though.

  • Let the Mythbusters handle all the commercials.

  • Thumbs up if you watched this while/after watching the mythbusters episode!

  • @willplez im watchin it right now as i watch this

  • I'm now watching th mythbusters episode LOL

  • all of you are right that the ad is cool but mythbusters made changes for exmpe instead of 2 lexus' they used bmw's and they didnt test this experiment on the same day the commercial was filmed

  • Done on Top Gear and Mythbusters.

This ad is pretty infamous now...

  • im watching the mythbusters show about it now

  • Mythbusters busted it!

  • TOTALLY BUSTED!!!!!

  • the car just poofedand landed like it was harmed ... really it should be obliterated

  • 0:21 (sic)!

  • Ha-ha, busted! Really, it's a stupid preposition that a car is going to be able to drive faster than the acceleration due to gravity.

  • On myth busters i heard them say that the car had 306 horse power i immediately thought about the is

  • all that means is that its accelerating over 9.8 m/s2

  • Aw, this ad is a scam. You couldn't even see the falling car getting smashing up in the ground.

  • why would this make someone buy a lexus?

  • @EvilRabbiMAn To show that the IS350 is a fast car, people like fast cars.

  • @EvilRabbiMAn cause everyone needs to avoid falling cars that might block their way on a daily basis, duh

  • Guess what I just watched to bring me here............

  • @573W1E6R1FF1N mythbusters?? :)

  • @13rubgydom Ever heard of a Rhetorical question?

  • I woulda preferred for mythbusters to use this car, but i guess it's relative

  • @wolfmotha77 They didn't have the ISF back then

  • Mythbusters should test the new one with the microphone at the tailpipe that shatters tha glass

  • NOT BUSTED!!! Mythbusters did a reenactment but it was impossible to get every variable correct in their experiment. Mythbusters are not physicists (I am btw) and they do not always set up proper tests. It's one of my favorite shows but it makes me cringe how so many people believe their results are always correct. I'm not saying this commercial is real but I would never say Mythbusters proved them wrong... that's just silly.

  • @3nRG idk how u can say that they didn't bust this myth?...all of the variables worked out just as they should've and they couldnt have made it work for real...if u watch it the car hits the ground WAYYY before the other car gets there so u sir are wrong...

P.S.- I also dont believe that ur a physicist...ill need to see some credentials....any one can leave comments saying that they r whatever they wanna be just to boost their oversized egos and make ppl think that you r better than them

  • @FluffytheDOW. Hear me out... even the mythbusters admitted that it would be impossible to get the same variables (watch the show again if you don't believe me). Wind currents and terminal velocity of the car would be the two biggest factors but there is too much physics to explain to you on here if you do not understand. My name is Tyler Gorday and you can Google my name. I have a degree in math and physics from the University of Alberta and I do know what I'm talking about so GTFO lol.

  • @3nRG i understand that multiple tests help but i also have a basic understanding of physics and how these things work...but regardless of wind or anything as i said they just werent timed close enough...an btw anyone can find the name of a physicist on google...well i didnt even need to google anything because i went to ur page and according to whoever did that (a.k.a. you) your name is actually Zobo Konosky from the soloman islands...why dont YOU cover your tracks before replying stupidly

  • @FluffytheDOW. Zobo Konosky is just a made up alias for on here (doesn't it sound fake?). You sound a little stubborn and unwilling to open your mind. It's too bad because that's what holds many smart people back from reaching their true potential. If you want I can email you from my university account, write to tgorday@ualberta.ca and I'll respond tonight.... And close enough doesn't cut it in the world of science. That's why the scientific method was created :)

  • @FluffytheDOW. Also for a correct scientific experiment there needs to be more then one dataset which the show rarely does because of costs, time, etc. It's a great concept but you cannot trust the results from seeing one close experiment. I didn't say the commercial was real (read my comment again) I just said that it wasn't busted by the mythbusters.... read up on scientific method before replying... it will help you learn more about physics and what people like myself do. Cheers

  • @3nRG i figured u would say u made that name up?...so my final question is - Why, if ur such a great physicicst, would u want an alias so ppl woulnt know u? it makes no logical sense

  • @FluffytheDOW. Whatever, I thought you would answer along those lines and I can see where this conversation is headed. It's a Youtube account, I don't care about names on here. If you want to have a real conversation without the juvenile aspects you are showing on here write me at my email account I gave you. Otherwise enjoy your ignorant bliss.

  • Lexus is for boring people with beige pants

  • lexus is gay, busted

  • you can tell its fake, but you know ford did the same exact commercial a couple years ago with their f-150

  • fake lol

  • i love how everyone that watches mythbusters thinks they are doing the world a favor by saying they "busted" something

  • BUSted

  • as long as the lexus can accelerate at higher tthan 9.81 meters per second squared to the falling cars terminal velocity it should work

  • busted. but too awesome

  • @mod3l lol

  • it depends on the weight distribution to make it fall flat

  • Mythbusters mistake was doing it in the desert as the friction held up the car at 115 mph 4000 feet would have been covered at same time but notice the car in the advert started from stationary but mythbusters did not drop car until one on ground reached 105?

  • but how is it that the car manages to fall perfectly horizontal?

  • It was balanced perfectly either by weight distribution or by adding extra weight in the boot, The Mythbusters did the same to the BMW. If you drop a balanced wheight it falls horizontily unless it's droped at an angle, it's the terminal velocity rule

  • @ymechaiekh simple its a ad do you really think they would drop a lexus and have a another try to beat. Who would risk there life trying to beat it just for a ad

  • @bltsandwich567

what the fuck are you talking about? when did i say that they raced the cars? i asked how it would fall flat retard

  • @ymechaiekh Well I was saying that the ad is fake and why it was and thats why the car fell perfectly flat like that, even though its a sports car and the weight is evenly distributed

  • The issue with Mythbusters was not really the type of car it was the fact that the car they used wasn't capable of 150 mph like that Lexus is.

  • I think you're all forgetting something. Karl Byron is hot.

  • lol Karl? you mean Kari

  • Retarded test. Mercedes SLS doing a tunnel loop.. now that's the shit.

  • they using the wrong car for the test on mythbuster. they need to drive this is350 to test.

  • BUSTED!

  • actually the mythbusters experiment couldn't reproduce what happened in this ad. mythbusters used different cars, they missed the mark in the car drop, and overall did a shitty job.

  • you try hitting a mark from 4000 feet with a car. and the exercise is can a car beat another car falling at vertical velocity. as long as you adjust for speed, the type of car you use is pretty much irrelevant

  • Sickness? Piece of shitness.

  • mythbusters busted this one

  • Nerrr :P Mythbusters said it is busted :D

  • it was on mythbusters (they only referenced the commercial, not the brand)

  • Lexus is going to pull this ad for copyright violations and you'll get a strike against your channel.

    Happend to me, the bastards.

  • this is idiotic! WHy in the world would anyone cry about copyright violation displaying ads? Shouldn't they be happy that their ads are watched in one way or the other?

  • I agree. The worst thing is I uploaded an LS400 commercial from 1989 that you think they really wouldn't care about- there isn't even any 'legal' way to view that commercial! What a shame!

  • 1. They did the test somewhere apparantly with a high temperature. The higher the temperature the thinner the air, thus the higher the terminal velocity so the car hits the ground faster.

    2. The lower the pressure of the air, the thinner the air and ...

    3. They used an old BMW 5 series with a powerful engine (being able to go that fast) presumably 540 or better, which is way heavier than the Lexus, the heavier the object, the higher the terminal velocity again.

  • I know mythbusters busted the commercial but you have forgotten the 3 most important factors that could've change the results of the test.

    1.Air temperature

    2.Pressure

    3.Weight of the car dropped

  • the weight of the car has no effect on how fast it falls :o

  • Best car commercial ever

  • Well... here comes my comment and lesson :P

    First of all:

the commercial did the work it was designed for: all of you (including me) looked at it, calculated, commented, said it was busted and remémbered that this Lexus is kind of fast. Congratulations to Lexus. ;)

  • Second:

Of course mytbusters busted the commercial, but they did that in théir situation, their set-up (like they always do). If they were using a faster car, car with larger surface, tested the myth on another day, other place, and so on: the results would have been different and thus you can also confirm the commercial if you just want to. So, beating gravity with a car is possible.

  • Third and last:

Some of you say that when the car is heavier it also would fall faster. That's not true. I hope you've learned in highscool that a feather and a hammer will drop at the same speed on the moon because no matter how heavy something is: the gravitational acceleration stays the same. On earth we don't have that vacuum, but when you use cars of the same shape that differ in weight they'll fall with the same speed because the gravitational acceleration is the same on both cars.

  • Actually mass is a factor for this problem. It needs to be taken into account for the terminal velocity of a falling body due to the buoyancy of the air.

  • You are wrong.

The gravitational acceleration IS the same on both "light" and a "heavy" car but the terminal velocity of the heavier one is more, so the heavier car will reach a higher speed during the fall thus hits the ground faster.

  • They said OVER 4000ft, Mythbusters did it AT 4000ft, that could make the 2 second difference.

  • Also, the car they used didn't have nearly as much power...

  • Power is irrelevant in this case. When the car is dropped the ground car is at a steady speed, and they accounted for the difference in speed by changing the ground cars race distance.

  • Power is relevant, you could not do that in a go-cart could you?

  • Yes you could. All you have to do is adjust the ground car's distance so it takes roughly 19 seconds (the time it takes the real car to travel the full distance)

  • But you couldn't cover the same distance as fast in a go cart.

  • That is true but you have to adjust the distance. If you do the calculation for the car in the ad it takes it just over 19 seconds to cover the distance so if you wanted to do the same experiment but replace the car on the ground with a go-cart you would just adjust the distance the go-cart travels so that it takes just over 19 seconds.

  • Oh okay I see what your saying now

  • can you say "Nerd"?

    jk

  • Engineer actually.

  • I think Lexus is trying to say that the car can drive faster (horizontal) than it's terminal velocity (horizontal).

  • Not quite that simple since the falling car starts at rest and must accelerate to it's terminal velocity.

  • totaly busted

  • Lol, right on fellow mysthubster! xD

  • It's CGI !!!11

  • BUSTED !!!!!!!

  • myth busters car fell in a differnet way so you cant really compare

  • nice ass shit

  • busted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The car they destroyed for this commercial is much better than my car... :(

  • BUSTED by Mythbusters

    cool ad though

  • @mistagtr that is true but i wish they had used a mor epower ful car it couldve made a small difference lol

  • @mistagtr the car they used wasnt even close to the is350

  • @mistagtr the car they used wasn't even close the is350 but mythbusters is a good show anyways

  • dude its an ad ! lol dont trip over a dam ad.

90 percent of TV ads that are made are not 100% true. The USP (unique selling proposition) of this ad is that an is350 is fast and a very creative way even though it aint true is to do this ad.

  • im trying dis! Where's the nearest drop point in the sky?

  • I though the ad was impressive, then I saw the comments! Haha!

This ad definitely left and impression and like most marketing messages, it's partial / exaggerated truth.

  • BUSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This commercial is such nonsense. First, it tries to imply the car could do this from a standstill, which is obviously not true. Secondly, even if topped out from the very beginning, the IS wouldn't make it. Gravity is fast, even with drag.

  • well, Brainiac fakes a lot of stuff

for example the alkali metal thing, they faked that.

I trust MB more on a scientific basis than I trust Brainiac. do the math, it all works out

  • meh... rs4

  • I WANT ONE!

  • was the engine taken out of the commercial car that was dropped

  • lol... don't trust the mythbusters. does anyone remember brainiac??? they tested some of the same things as the mythbusters and came up with totally different results. i honestly think that grant's math calculations were not done right. Just do the math... right.

  • would be interesting to see the running car modified to have the same drag coefficient of the falling car (flat fall)... it does really matter in this case. and yeah sometimes the mythbusters are full of s***

  • this was made on thack... and MB on earth track.. which means less traction!

  • They took that into account on the MB. The car on the ground is assumed to start out at its top speed, so the time it takes to cover 4000 feet is easily calculated. 142 mph is a little over 208.2 fps so it'd take 19.2 seconds for the Lexus to go 4000 feet if already at top speed. The question is how long would the falling car take. Without drag, the falling car would take 15.8 seconds. The real world mythbusters test (with drag) had the fall taking about 17 seconds. This ad is full of lies

  • exactly (;

  • Um. To correct you on both of your comments. They do not imply it does this from a standstill the car is going 142mph when the other car is dropped. And the MB were wrong because the weight and type of both cars is different. If they did it with this car, They would have gotten a different result. I'm not say it would have proven true but it would have been as faulty as the MB experiment.

  • In the ad, they show the car launching from a stand still and don't make it clear when that happens relative to the drop. Obviously the car has to start at top speed to even stand a chance. The weights of the cars were plenty similar. None of the areas or drag coefficients vary enough to make the myth busters drop that innaccurate. You're not going to slow the car down 2 seconds with a slightly different shape. I should mention that they did match the overall weight and distribution of it.

  • brainiac was complete rubbish tho

  • myth busted, brah. totally busted

  • Thanks! I was waiting for this to show up!

  • Its possible math wise. It was proven. You can find the whole math if you search.

    Here is a brief recap:

-It would take the car on the ground 19.231 seconds to travel the 4000 feet. At max speed of 142 MPH.

-the car had traveled 894.688 feet in 7.456 and -3105.312 feet. in 12.939

-car will take about 20.395 seconds to hit the ground.

  • Where is the math in that ?

    All I see are numbers..

  • just search online you can find the whole math, i can only write so much in this window

  • For Pete's sake.

    Take a basic physics course.

  • And that is exactly why the United States, Ranks 37th in international math standards. We are behind El Salvador in math capabilities.

  • Well, that's not that bad. The education in El Salvador isn't great, but it's better then most people think. I should know, I live there... or is it here? I don't know because I'm american and apparently, we're all stupid ^w^

  • how do u know all the data to input like the drag coefficient, the cross sectional area of the lexus to determine the terminal velocity of the lexus

    vt=sqrt(2mg/PAC)

then u gotta plug that in to V=vo+at solve for t

    r=ro+vot+1/2at^2

subtract that amount of feet from 4000 feet

plug that into r=ro+vot+1/2at^2 solve for t for the rest of the fall and add that to the first time

driving car u jus do r=ro+vot+1/2at^2

use its 0 to 60 time for acceleration convert to m/s. solve for t

  • lol, why convert to m/s? Just leave it in feet and save yourself the trouble and rounding errors of converting units twice.

So you found the terminal velocity and then the time it takes to reach that terminal velocity . . . and yet you assume constant acceleration, which can obviously not happen since drag increases with speed. You then find how far something could have fallen during the time it takes for the object to reach TV and add that to the total falltime. You're doin' it wrong.

  • In short, you need a differential equation to accurately solve the problem.

  • Comment removed

  • It's not busted if you use ACTUAL speeds instead of the dial speed. small error Mythbusters. That BMW never did an actual 105 mph...

You take the 2975 ft they recalculated for 105 mph to do 19.2 seconds (forgetting btw the time to win :D) that the 4000ft drop will take and now add 2 seconds that the car was late..

Accept that they can set a proper distance, the car traveled not at 105 but at 95 mph... Guess what.. Speeddials are not accurate, oops mythbusters..

    Still... AWESOME RESULTS!

  • They didn't have someone driving in the car, and I doubt they would ever trust a cars speed dial for any kind of testing..

Far more likely they've got a speed gun like cops do, but that being said they're not all that accurate either.

So you're still probably right about the speed being wrong haha...

  • They said their way of doing it was busted. They did not go top speed and it was not under the same conditions as the commercial/

  • saw it busted on mythbusters too!

  • ha I just watched that too. busted

  • this was on mythbusters! it was busted. ha!
