  • Don't forget Pat McCormick's partner on Dialing for Dollars Bob March AKA Captain Satellite. Did a search here on him.....nothing. :(

  • Bob Wilkins 1932-2009

  • Thanks for posting this. It's kind of ironic because Dennis Richmond is retiring. All the old greats are going, one way or another.

  • Thank you so kindly, Bob

for being a big part of my school days

I lit my life-sized skull candle as you did.

Night of the Living Dead will ALWAYS

remind me of your show and several of my

first showings of that movie and so many more.

  • Lol! Attack of the Mushroom People! They don't make movies like that anymore. Bob Wilkins and Creature Features were the best!!!

  • I remember that movie! I watched on a Saturday afternoon on KBHK-44. I think I was ten, and it was abvious to my rather immature mind that the movie was a giant, dumb metaphor for addiction.

  • ktvu 2 was so cool in the early 1970s...Bob

Wilkins, Pat McCormick (Dialing For Dollars),

Charley and Humphrey, Lost In Space, Batman,

Flipper, Cartoon Town (George of the Jungle,

Bullwinkle, and the Harvey cartoons), and

    Gilligan's Island.

  • Awesome stuff. My great-grandmother got a Dialing For Dollars call and won $50! That was big money in those days!

  • That's pretty cool!

Do you happen to recall the name of the guy

who hosted the weekday afternoon kid shows

on KBHK 44 in the early to mid '70s ?

  • You know I don't remember. I usually watched KTVU after school on weekdays. KBHK was for weekends, lots of good movies. Sorry I couldn't help.

  • I recently discovered his name was Dr. Don Rose.

  • Oh my GOD! Of COURSE! How could I have forgotten?! You know as soon as I read your reply his voice popped into my head. His full name was Dr. Donald E. (D.?) Rose, and he was one of the top-rated SF Bay Area disc jockeys at the time. Do you remember him?

  • I lived in Red Bluff,CA in the early to mid

'70s and only knew him as the cheery voice on

KBHK 44 plugging the afternoon cartoons and

    reruns.

He also provided his voice for stations in

Chicago,Detroit and Philly during those years.

There's a clip of his voice here on youtube

doing a promo for Underdog on Chicago 32...

    total '70s childhood time-warp!

  • You can access the video by clicking the

first video in my favorites called "Snippets/

    Underdog Spot".

  • Actually you can just type Snipets/Underdog

    Spot. I mispelled "Snipets".

  • Thanks very much!! Wow, the nostalgia is just incredible!

  • You're welcome!

Hopefully someone will post some of Dr.Don's

    spots on KBHK 44.

  • That was actually Sgt.Sacto ( aka Mike Cleary ) He hosted the show on a Spaceship although I can't remember the name of it. There was no peanut gallery ( kids ) and he hosted popeye cartoons / He later went onto Sports Radio with Frank Dill at KNBR / Dr.Don Rose was actually the Voice of KBHK TV44 after Sgt.Left the Air and announced which shows would be on, such as "The Little Rascals" etc...He used Horns, Bells and other sound effects, He was the Morning DJ on KFRC Radio in San Francisco

  • Thanks for the memories Bob, your Sacramento (KTXL Channel 40) based show was great, and loved watching it now and then on KTVU.

  • And we only gave him 37 seconds because our station sucks ass now.

  • I wanted to go too...no tickets. Still - it's nice the Bay Area pays tribute. Nice theater, too!

  • I really wanted to go to the tribute but couldn't get tickets. Thank you so much for posting this!
