The politician states the obvious (freedom stops where the law says it does) but doesn't answer the question if it isn't paradoxical to forbid someone to dress as she will in the name of freedom, because you want to liberate her from the religious/cultural oppression the dress symbolizes? If she choses to stay home, and talk to strangers from behind the screen, you cannot invade into her privacy any further. Moreover, as a muslim, supporting the oppressed is an obligation. Forceful deprivation of women of the privacy level they chose is an oppression. So if you want to look in islamic sources, look with a broader view.

My wife (like me, white European and non muslim) will not step outside the house without putting on her make up. I tell her that she is crazy to think that everyone will notice and be critical of her. There's already too many damn rules and regulations to abide by within our culture. The liberty to be who you are as a human being should not be a luxury as long as you do not infringe upon the liberties of others. People who get but-hurt over somebody else's dress code are victims of their own intolerance.
However if one choses to wear the burqa they should accept that along with it comes the inconvenience of often being treated as a potential security threat. They cannot have it both ways.

What really bothers me is that people started making their OWN VERSION of Islam. Islam prohibits inter-faith marriage. So, from that point of view, both husband and wife must be Muslim. That means seeing each other in the eyes. Being aware of each others body language, and so on. Other countries should do the ban as well. If one can't see a persons' face, then the liberty of the one 'unveiled' is gone. On top of that it is very scary and ugly to see someone walk arond all covered in black. If she choses to stay home, and talk to strangers from behind the screen, you cannot invade into her privacy any further. Moreover, as a muslim, supporting the oppressed is an obligation. Forceful deprivation of women of the privacy level they chose is an oppression. So if you want to look in islamic sources, look with a broader view.

Islam does not ask any lady to cover herself in burqa completely but yes it does say that Muslim ladies must cover their heads and try to hide their faces (though no compulsion on completely covering it) as this act would give them an identity and no one would look at them with cruel intentions... Take it this way, if you see a cake in your room uncovered, it certainly is going to attract you but if the same is placed in a bakery, you are gonna think & re-think before buying it...

If, as a civilian, you enter, you will be arrested. Even you would be claimed as spying. Why? For really many reasons. But you don't have any question about that. You have questions only about Mecca.
