  • multi-talented,down 2 earth, amazing. u changed my world clive thankz. ur movies give alot ov hope in the deepest darkness, love itttt!!!! long live hellraiser.

  • Was there was fun ]

  • Damn....smoking fucks you up.

  • Fangoria should hire a better reporter. This gal has no charisma or spark. Dull Dull Dull. Where the hell is Elvira??

  • that girls dumb

  • I hope his throat has gotten better by now. Poor guy.

  • Awesome. Hope Clive is doing better.

  • Clive's sense of humour and delivery is so dry...it's fantastic. You don't see that in clips of him from his early days, but one assumes it's always been there.

  • I LOVE THIS MAN! I'm just getting into his books and i just can't get enough!!!

  • No offense but the interviewer sucks ass. Clive was great as usual.

  • i just read Mr. B Gone, it's so goood!

  • I used to be a big fan of Clive's. Bought all the Hellraiser trade paperbacks, Books of Blood graphic novels, Nightbreed comics, and of course I purchased practically all of his printed work. 2 years ago after intense research, and inner struggle I came to understand the existence of God (YWHW). I have continued my research, but the focus now is on biblical works, demonology, and various "paranormal" activities. Clive is an inspired artist. Where does his creativity originate?

  • @joecota

    lol are you serious?

  • @ExtremeBogom

    Absolutely.

  • @joecota

OK. Well, I think Clive is a believer too.

  • @joecota Actually I agree with you, demonology and biblical study are very interesting studies. Even though, I myself don't believe.

  • @rockit353 i dont believe you dont believe. though , i myself dont believe.

  • @executionerofgod Ummm... right then. Your response is based on what exactly? Please, express yourself more clearly.

  • @rockit353 my response was based on my sense of humor. i didnt think it begged a response

  • I'd not mind getting a nice blowjob from the chick.

  • dude i like Clive Barker already

1 question ;S if any1 knows about it...is his throat polyps gona cause his death? O,o

  • The Thief of Always is my favorite novel.

  • this is what i love about clive: he repeatedly uses the interviewer's name: a testament for his understanding of the human element.

  • A wonderful human being,Clive is a genius.

  • worst interviewer ever. She's not cut for TV.

  • He's just had surgery on his throat, and is recovering. Refer to his Twitter thingo for updates. Great bloke.

  • Clive Barker is GOD!

  • He is a man who has suffered for his art.

  • That girl's cute

  • @fidotard

Yeah... some useless fartknocker like yourself has a VICE-LESS life to show for, right? Perfection to the core, no doubt.

You shouldn't wear your envy in such plain sight on your sleeve over someone that actually has made something of himself, as opposed to your sorry-ass existence, you pathetic fucktard.

  • @lin2log sir I love you that comment was full of win.

  • @lin2log Were you one of the writers for the princess bride? (not a sissy girl movie)

  • Why has he swapped bodies & voices with Mickey Rourke?

  • you can see a interview on YT made in 94 where he is 41, he fucking looks 30-35 . But now he looks like he was homeless for last 10 years . Not judging him but damn ... cigarettes ?

  • @Fudolux He had polyups in his throat and has since given up smoking. His voice and deteriorated health has had nothing to do with smoking.

  • @Fudolux Cigars.

  • He supposedly sounds a lot better now, which is good because he sounds an awful lot like I think death would sound here.

  • He has not aged well. I hope he is taking care of himself.

  • He got throat polyps from smoking, you idiot.

  • @Laurabeth777 such a shame, hes such a talented guy...

but still every man has a right to choose what to do with his own life =)

  • Must be something about your cock Lindsey that irritates him...

  • what does his sexualty have anything to do with his work?

  • Clive barker is actually amazing. I love him.

  • Mister B. Gone was actually a really good book.

  • it was <3

  • I'm just catching up with Mr. Barker again after fifteen years, and his change in appearance (he used to look like a very nice little boy indeed) really works for him. I always loved his work, and now he has a cool persona too. Some of it was brought about by illness, but since that's in the past, I feel free to say that he looks great, he sounds great, and his work is great.

  • she's cute and Clive Barker's voice is real cool man just so weird hehe very ominous sounding

  • he seems so normal lol

  • If he would just dress like a pirate no one would think anything was wrong with his voice.

  • Apparently he had polyps. He can't help it. I'm sure he would if he could but he can't.

  • Yes, He said in a podcast interview he's had multiple throat surgeries to remove polyps, which changed his voice.

but he's still one of the most intelligent, funniest people around, really classy. (and yes, he is gay, read the bio in his paperback, it mentions his HUSBAND, David Armstrong.

  • I think the voice really helps, it's like Vincent Price. For being a horror novelist that voice is awesome!

  • I really want to have Clive Barker's child and marry him subsequently.

  • good luck on that hes gay

  • I'm telling you, HE ISN'T GAY!

  • he is

  • he is

  • No, he isn't.

  • Then why did he win an award that is only given to gays & lesbians in the entertainment world? :)

  • That's discrimination!

Just you fucking watch! I'll be the gayest, lebianest mo' fucka dat ever bumped Big L's shit!

  • Well, he's married to David Armstrong, and talks candidly about his homosexuality in several interviews, his book Sacrament, his biography, has helped produce a book of homo erotic photographs with his husband, and recently coordinated an exhibition of "live" homo erotic art involving naked, painted and priapic men. He is a homosexual man, and he;'s absolutely wonderful :D

  • That's what makes Clive cool...he dont care who thinks what...the man is nice, cool and open as fuck...nothing but the best for him

  • Ah! I loved your review of the Hellbound Heart!

Indeed I am well aware of his homosexuality, but I enjoy messing with people all the same.

Glad to see that you were coaxed into the argument. Anyway, would you make more reviews of his books? I happen to enjoy your mannerisms (ect...)

  • XD

I consider myself well got ;)

There'll certainly be more reviews on Clive's work (I've started several videos in the past reviewing things like Weaveworld and The Candyman, only to stop because I felt I wasn't doing them justice. But I'll definitely do them eventually :) ).

  • ruined? he`s one of the worlds biggest authors. Take it you don`t drink, and u are..what..?

  • stephen king wrote some of his best work during his alcoholic phase. (not advocating alcoholism btw)

  • Iv'e seen interviews with him from his early days...1 question...What the fuck happened to his voice ?.....

  • Don't you know he's not human anymore? He sold his soul to the tobbaco Gods...and probably the alchohol Gods.

  • Actually I think he may have had throat polyp gods removed recently, though those may have been spawned by the aforementioned tobacco gods.

  • Yeah, I never seen him smoke.

  • I just want him to impregnant me and love me!

  • But he's gay.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    (Actually, he is bi-sexual.)

  • hes seen smoking cigars in a lot of his earlier interviews, its painful to watch and listen to him talk, but he seems ok, he's so mesmerizing.

  • polyps in his throat from smoking and drinking too much developed whisky voice hope he lays off the cigars

  • My big problem with Barker right now is how he jumps from one thing to the next without ever finishing anything. Too aloof and unreliable. Fifteen years ago, he was committed to realizing the completion of the Art series. Then, this Abarat series came out of nowhere. Then, he puts that on hold to turn what was originally a book of short stories into The Scarlet Gospels. He released Mister B. Gone last year to stall us while he writes Scarlet Gospels. Now SG is on hold due to Abarat 3.

  • See what I mean? There was no point in Mister B. Gone's release other than to deliver something to his publisher while he goes back and forth between Art 3, Abarat and Scarlet Gospels. It's ridiculous. I imagine he'll be gone before we ever even see a conclusion to The Great and Secret Show/Everville, which was the only thing I ever really wanted from him these past ten years. I didn't give a shit about Candy Quackenbush's adventures in Disneyland.

  • its called age!!

  • his humor reminds me off eddie izzard...anyone else?

  • Clive Barker is one of the most brilliant literary minds of our time.I mean he goes beyond just horror and moves into metaphysics, fantasy, surrealism and so much more.

  • I'm assuming you've read anything by him? There certainly isn't anyone else like him.I'd consider that brilliant in itself.I will admit you are right, sometimes it is hit and miss. But that goes for almost any artist. On a whole though he revolutionized horror.

I don't know how old you are but for a time everything coming out was either a bad Stephen King or Anne Rice clone.Well The Books of Blood certainly changed that.

  • I tip my hat at you for a none-offensive reply. I like him, too. But alot of what i like most people never seem to agree with. One thing that i will give him credit is for using horror in a smart, primal way. If you look at the "saw" movies, they use violence and gore for the sake of pushing people's buttons. But in no way do they care to explain the need of it. Barkers horror is more intellectual. But i can say this, i always believe that the Hellraiser movies is what holds him down.

  • I actually do agree with alot of what you said. One thing you may not reallize though is that Clive was only involved with the first Hellraiser film. That made it certainly the best and only worthwhile.

Maybe I shouldn't say Clive has just a more intellectual approach to horror.Clive combines horror, fantasy, surrealism, and metaphysics. Not many do that well.Just read Everville or The Great and Secret Show.Definitely not typical horror.

  • he's actually been rewriting the script to a modern day remake of hellsraiser since 2007 and it will be released soon, so that's something to look forward to with all the advances in technology.

  • Good point. I don't know how it's possible that he doesn't have that huge success. Maybe (I'll just talk about the books, I'm not familiar enough with his other work) it's just too extreme. Here in Germany his books are kind of an insider tip. What he writes responds to so essential fears (at least for me, I love horror books but the ones by Barker were definitely the most exciting and frightening), maybe not many people want to occupy themselves with that. I don't know.

  • haha he is awsome!..but omg he sounds like he smokes like four pack's a day!

  • Comment removed

  • i know the girl at the beginning.. Abby Noxious from the band ORDER OF THE FLY.. ps i love Barker but his novel Sacrament sucked

  • my hero <3

  • The man is simply impossible to sum in words. His fiction is genuinely unlike anything else I have ever read, and I've read quite a bit, both inside and outside the genres he is typically (and fallaciously for the most part) relegated as a part of. His films, though not always 100% successful, always have...something, some bizarre X factor that renders them apart from the tropes and traditions of mainstream cinema, and his art...it's like he splits open the skull of reality and dabs his brush...

  • ...in its delirium. An amazing imagination and prodigious talent. I look forward to whatever else spills from his mind with incredible anticipation.

  • Lovecraft is better.

  • A matter of opinon. Personally, I find Lovecraft inellegant, predictable and overblown. I also dislike his blatant racism and anti-semitism, but each to their own.

  • Clive Barker is awesome. nuff said.

  • Too much whiskey and fags does that to your voice. He is well into his fifties also. An often overlooked Brit.

  • He had polips removed from his throat a little while ago; it completely screwed up his voice, sadly.

  • WTF happened. I met him in 2002 and his voice was perfectly normal. Did he get AIDS?

  • he's famous r u ?

  • That's quite an unastute, but perfect example of what to say when you really have nothing of importance to say..

  • bravo sir

  • I've been trying to compile a list of definitive horror creators; Barker is definitely on it one way or another.

  • He is great to listen to while stoned!!!

Cant wait to see Midnight Meat Train and Book of Blood!!!!

  • i saw midnight meat train at a budget theater and it kicked ass!! one of his best accomplishments since hellraiser for sure. can't wait until it comes out on dvd so i can see it again!

  • Clive is a wacko and a genius first class. Hail to the King!

  • I try to decieve people into thinking that I'm a good person..and from there..once I HAVE done that..I fight to keep the balance of what I have shown to that particular person..because I am different twords different people, but the THING is..I really want to convince THEM that I'm a good person..in order to BE a good person....how I am in THEIR eyes....IS how I am, because really...I'm all tears and insanity...how unique is that? I..couldn't tell you.

  • i heard his voice has changed due to smoking and drinking whiskey.

  • I love Clive Barker. Can't wait to meet him at Screamfest Orlando!

If you haven't read "Coldheart Canyon" read it!

  • He has such a great sense of humor!

  • he's just getting older. He's still handsome and he's still a genius. And hollywood's not helping.

  • I gave up reading Barker after Weaveworld because he strayed too far into fantasy. Bummer.

  • Clive spoke to Revelations on March 26, 2008 and asked them to make this public announcement:

"Over the past couple of years at signings, people have often come up to me saying, 'Your voice doesn't sound too good, are you OK?' So, to all those people who have shown me kindness and concern, I would like to say 'Thank You'. There was an issue - I have had polyps on my throat which has constricted my breathing and affected my voice - and this has just recently been addressed, with great success."

  • Thanks for clearing that up. I was wondering about his voice.

  • He was so good looking and had a really nice voice 10 years ago. Kinda sad

  • His voice is cool haha

  • He is making a new SCOOBY DOO movie coming out 03 December 2008, can't wait for it!

  • barker is truly Teh Writersking :-)

But the hostess is tereible, sounds like shes scared of him :-D

  • damn right, in the hills the cities' one of the best stories from the books of blood.

  • I wonder what juice he's on???

  • In the hills, in the cities - MAKE A MOVIE OF THIS NOW!

  • What the hell *happened* to him? Drugs? Smoking? Aids?

    What the hell?

A brilliant writer. And a brilliant man -- can paint, can write brilliant novels and short stories...

But that voice? His 'roid look? My god!

  • I think the reason he sounds bad is because he has been smoking cigars for a long time.

  • I must agree with amazement. For a while I was afraid that I was the only one wondering his looks...

  • Brilliant writer. Better than Stephen King IMO.

  • Wow...big difference from 1990 interview to 2007. Looks and sounds like 2 different people.

  • I'm a fan of clive barker's books, but unluckily I can find any where I live(morocco), If someone knows where I can find them plz get in touch with me 10X

  • what happened to it it sounds like laryngitis with nodules on his larynx

  • What a bloody nice bloke, passionate about his work and a good sense of humour.

  • His voice box has been so damaged from many years of smoking cigarettes that he sounds like an old man. Check out the interview he did in 1990 on Good Morning America and he looks like a fresh, jubilant young pretty boy... and now THIS?! LOL

  • Hellraiser,Jericho,Undying, what next.

  • His voice sounds cool.

  • lol... im very sorry

  • She sounds thick as shit

  • He needs to stop smoking...

  • I REALLY liked Clive Barker last year ALOT..but now..a little bit less..not MUCH..and it's not his fault..just life...

I'll probably like him alot more again after the next time I'm getting over trauma.. THAT'S the best time for CLIVE..and I LOVE this interview.

  • Clive Barker is the most brilliant man on earth period!

  • his jericho is awsome!!! :D

infact i find it more interesting as I progress. :>

  • HELLO MY NAME IS MADELAIN PARKET AND IM SOORY FOR LOOSING MY BRESTS HERE ON FANGORIA IN LOS ANGELES, BURBANK

He makes her laugh? Wow thats quite achievement man!:III)))))))

    MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

    THATS HORROR

  • I just finished reading Jacqueline Hess:her will and testimony and... damn!,this man is a genious

He and Lovecraft are the only writers who can scare the shit of you

  • brilliant!

  • I feel sorry for poor Clive. Not because of his health but because of having to sit through this interview with this clueless interviewess.

  • LOOOL

Yeah, that´s right, she is so stupid.

Thats good, yeah she lost her breasts in deed, but get couple of bools.

    :))))

  • love him...but omg what just happened to his voice!! he sounded so cool in the pc undying..and now...like some 70 year old dude...:( get better, clive!! luvya

  • poor Clive. He's such an inspiration, and his artwork is like no other. I hope it ISN'T throat cancer (he did smoke an awful lot of cigars) Bless him.

  • Yeah he doesn't seem to be doing too well, health wise.

I just watched the Tom Snyder interview clip (which had to have been around 1992, when Candyman came out) and he seemed a lot more lucid and healthy. Sure time has passed, but to age that severely in 15 years seems strange.

I hope that whatever has afflicted him goes away soon. That said, I can't wait to read The Scarlet Gospels when it comes out.

  • Man...I don't care HOW realistic and down to earth you think you can GET...Clive Barker will live ON...has their ever been a writter...who's written as many books as Clive Barker who's life was cut SHORT? I'm SERIOUSLY thinking that he'll live until he's an OOOOLD dude.

  • We can only hope that he does live to be 120, and continues to write until the day he dies.

  • yeah, Hellraiser still stands as the most ultra modern horror film ever created. It makes me laugh when these Japanese so-called horror films are called brilliant and modern. None of them creep me out like Hellraiser 1

  • The Midnight Meat Train...was really SHORT and kinda to the point THOUGH still the shit, but how can they make a whole movie out of it? Fuck it..I'm gonna watch it...I'm thinking it'll be the BOMB........dizzle!

  • What happened to Clives voice? Does he have throat Cancer is he sober? WTF? I have met him 3 times in the 90s and wow what a change.

  • I love Clive Barker and his work!!! I would sooo be all over him if he was straight.

  • i didnt know he was gay lol (dont mean anything negative from this comment lol it was just news to me), is his mr b gone book any gd?

  • lol,what voice:)))))))))))))))))))))0

  • That goth chick looks easy!!

  • This is a brilliant anti-smoking ad!

  • It doesn't even MATTER what Clive Barker SAYS in his interviews..his books and movies say EVERYTHING. I'm a FUCKIN' HUGE fan of his works. Clive Barker to me..is like the sky to me. That's true. So Clive Barker..if you ever SEE this comment..THANK YOU!! peace core!

  • I agree with you totally. Clive Barker is a bloody genius and his books have totally enriched my mind and my way of thinking.

  • If that's what fame does... Poor sod. I bet Keith Richards feels better for watching this.

  • Great writer and producer overall...but also check out Stephen King's "Stephen King on Writing". GREAT BOOK for any inspiring writers out there...I myself am not, however, check it out!

  • Barker looks buff.

  • Hmmm booze and alcohol maybe? God,he was so gorgeous 20 years ago. But listen to how he speaks: he is as articulate as always. Its age with him, I hope.

  • Amelia, I saw Clive at a book signing about 3 or 4 years ago, and believe me, he looks better now than he did then! I was a little afraid of watching this video (in case he looked worse than he did before). Thankfully he looks like he's been taking better care of himself. Other than that, it is called aging... :)

  • He really does not look well! I have adored Clive's work since reading 'Weaveworld' at 9, (Yes, I read Weaveworld when I was 9 and never quiet got over it. I blame Mr. Barker for my insanity.) and after seeing his picture on the back he became one of my first crushes. (LOL from me too) This interview kind of made me wince. What the hell happened???

  • Clive is the best. Because of him, I love reading now. Even if his books are bizarre and often hard to understand, fucking hell I love them all. And I don't know why!! Every person has a novel writer that changed their life. For me Clive Barker is the ONE!!! Thank you Clive, I respect books now!!!

  • Same for me, mate!!! He even made me WRITE. And be brave to write what comes to mind. And follow that thought/idea to the very end! I'm close to finishing IMAJICA. Man, that book looks messy now. It's been throught a lot of different weather types and even took a bath in greek waters. Such a great epic and so strange sometimes. Love the "alien sex situations"!

  • what happend to his voise?!

  • hes 50+ old give him a break he aint no spring chicken

  • What the hell's happened to him? Too much time in the States hanging out with Mickey Rourke by the looks of things!

  • Yeah he is lookin' old/rough these days
