  • Man, my dad should have gotten this. He's got the 3.6L, and it gets like 17mpg on average and requires premium. Whew, those diesels are cool.

  • If the planet was a man who would give me a car, I would every day wishing him good luck!

  • Hi Dan, Diesel will never be widespread in the US. Because, An SUV that goes 20 mpg with regular gas cost 2250 ($3.75/gal)if it drives 12000 miles a year, if it is a diesel that goes 24 mpg it costs 2050 ($4.1/gal). $200 difference. If 1/3 of the cars become diesel (50 M) this means oil copanies loose 10 B a year. And the government lose proprtional amount of tax as well. To compansate this amount diesel should be $4.5. 75 cents more than regular. This is not gonna happen.

  • @Fussinated Or.....maybe diesel should be cheaper than regular gas and regular gas taxed more. This would encourage more drivers/automakers to switch to diesel. The other thing that you forgot to mention is that if 1/3 of US drivers switched to diesel we wouldn't have to import one barrel of oil from the middle east. Think about that for a minute.

  • @kugasman815 OK, things you should understand; 1-) I would prefer diesel to be cheaper and more wide spread. 2-) I already explained why diesel will never be cheaper. Making regular gas more expensive is, making gas more expensive, not making diesel cheaper. 3-) Diesel is obtained from oil, if 1/3 of US drivers changed to diesel the amount of oil that is imported wouldn't change, unless you are talking about bio diesel which is different -lower performance higher consumption than oil diesel.

  • @Fussinated very very true but I think that diesel engines can gain much much higher efficiency that gasoline ones than they already have, so undoubtedly people will start trying to get them and american car companies can either submit or start losing money. its a tight game, though i hope that diesel catches on there as much as it has here in europe. 10 B a year is alot of money that could go into the economy in other means. . .

  • @Fussinated The 24 is just the rated. If you watch the video he got over 30 easy. Not to bad for that size of vehicle with that much power. On Gasoline vehicles, they usually come in UNDER the rated city/hwy.

  • @RREDDELL "The 24 is just the rated."

    I said;

" if it is a diesel that goes 24 mpg ..."

This is called a conditional statment ... i.e. I am not saying that a particular vehicle consumes 24 mpg. I am talking about a random vehicle and a random number. Please correct your way of understanding what I said.

"On Gasoline vehicles, they usually come in UNDER the rated city/hwy."

This is not true either. On this channel you will see many otherwise examples.

  • Will the V12 TDI be available in America? About what MPG and price point is to be expected?

Ahh I see I posted on here about 4 months ago. =)

  • The 6.0-litre, 368kW Audi Q7 V12 TDI continues to rank as the worlds most powerful diesel-powered SUV, and yet manages a wholly respectable economy figure of 11.2 litres per 100km in the combined cycle test. The benefits of recuperation are also particularly evident in the 4.2 TDI, which enjoys a fuel economy boost from 11.0 to 9.9 litres per 100km, despite an increase in power for the latest generation unit from 239kW to 250kW.

  • All previous engines featured in the Q7 have been carried over to the 2010 update with the addition of a new 3.0 litre TDI diesel V6 engine, producing 168kw (225hp) and 550Nm (406lb/ft) of torque. Audi claims the US model will storm from 0-60mph (96.6km/h) in 8.5 seconds and use 9.4 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway. The TDI engine has reached Bin5/ULEV (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle) II 50 state status and a 5-star crash-test rating from NHTSA and NCAP.

  • Q7 2010 "FACE LIFT" changes to the model on the out side, a new MMI navigation system has been introduced for the update, featuring 3D navigation, joystick control and voice-based destination input control. It also responds to demands such as Im hungry, I need gas and I need money (no kidding), providing directions to establishments able to satisfy the need closest to the car....

  • The Audi Q7 V12 TDI is hell fun! 1000 Newtonmeters of torque!!

  • my uncle called bmw dealer for X5 diesel , they said if you ordered it now you will get one in december , is that the same case with q7??

  • lmao its torque converter stalled from 35-45!

  • The A3

TDI is more like my style though. =)

Cant seem to find much information on it. I'm not sure if it has been released in the USA yet. I think it's similar to the VW Jetta. or GTI.

  • Woo yeah. Hoping to get an A3 TDI in for testing. Fingers crossed ...

  • ah yes I would like to see that as well :P.

  • hope the A4 comes in a TDI option soon. Now That would be a great option period.

  • my bud has a v10 TDI Toureg. That thing is a sleeeeeeeeeeeeper.

  • Very nice, I like this SUV. What's the price on this? How much did it cost you to fill it up with diesel? Can these be converted to run off Veg oil?

  • Base is $50,900. Cost to fill was somewhere in the neighborhood of $67 (I'd have to go pull out the receipt). I doubt that anyone has converted the Q7 TDI to run on veggie oil, on account of the advanced emissions and other high-tech stuff. The future is algae fuel ...

  • Ah, That's abit too expensive for me. Nice car though.

I see, I never heard of Algae fuel before. Maybe its better than conventional petroleum? I hope that someday there are no cars that run off Petrol.

Also when I think of Diesel I think of pollution and noise. Do these put out that thick black smoke I am used to seeing on large trucks/buses? That cant be good for the environment.

What would make me want to buy this version over the regular Q7 if I was in the market for a Q7?

    =)

  • Heh, too expensive for me at the present time, as well. But I can dream! :)

The new clean diesels are nothing like the old conventional diesels. (there's no smoke or smell) Most folks would never know the difference between the gassers and the diesels, until they stepped on the pedal. Torque FTW!

The diesel offers greatly enhanced fuel economy compared to the gas version. Good candidate for towing, as well.

  • Ah I see. It seems like its cool. But wow, Almost 70 dollars to fill the tank? My car only costs like 30/35. Good thing about Diesel is that you wont need to wait in line at the pumps as much since not alot of people drive Diesels.

Does Diesel really accelerate well? The horsepower and RPM are not that good but they do have high torque numbers. I wonder if you can reflash these like you can with the F250s ect and get some serious numbers? The 80/90s benz diesels where popular here in USA so idk

  • It's a big tank, no doubt about that. For a seven passenger vehicle with a 6600 lb. towing capacity, these numbers are about as good as it gets ...

Diesel acceleration is different. There's more low end grunt. Performance off the line is strong. Torque curves are flat, no big jump at the top end.

Gale Banks has started working on VW diesel 4 cylinder engines. I drove a Banks-modded Jetta TDI earlier this month ...

  • Oh I see. Are these like the diesels that was found in the benz in the 80s/90s?

Is this engine anything like the powerstroke or cummins from the American market?

The Audi R8 with TDI looks really awesome. I think that might be the fastest diesel ever. I was reading about that but that thing costs like 130 large.

So what is your opinion on diesel? Is it here to stay? Or is it just a passing idea? What can be expected and the potential of Diesel instead of regular gasoline?

    I agree,good #s
