im sorry but i know simon mayo isn't full of gags like jonathon ross was but i didnt like jonathon ross how he always tried to steal the show from the guest where as mayo simply asks questions and lets them speak and thats what i want to see, usually he'll get a question from an email that is always something i want to hear the answer for

so yeh mayo may not be as popular as JR but that doesnt mean i dont like him

Simon Mayo was worth the license fee on his own. Bacon is just a clueless, irritating twat, Williams can't interview without interrupting & pushing his own opinion. Endlessly.

Peter Allan, Aasmah Mir or Jayne Garvey would be my choice. Why?

They are an order of magnitude better than Bacon or Williams.

Understandable that a move may feel timely, but I can't imagine the understated roundedness, personality and pace of his broadcasting, the range and heights reached daily on the 5 live show, which SM really made his own, will/can be anything like replicated on the whimsical and tedious R2. It's reversion for Simon back to his Radio 1 days of misheard lyrics etc.

He will be very difficult to replace.

horrible news..the reason to listen to 5 live in the afternoon. I mean, yay for Simon because he has proved himself to be a great show host. However, I need my Kermode fix and it is never the same without Mayo so atleast there is that. Warning to 5 live..if Kermode goes with Mayo to Radio 2 then so do I.
