If home videos were not embarrassing enough, think about sharing them with over a million people on the internet and then growing up and hearing about it. Ohh little one! Poor sweetie... I hope she got over her hearbreak. When we moved away from London my daughter was heartbroken too, she didn't want to leave her best friend, Woomi. It is so hard sometimes to see our little ones cry and being unable to comfort them, when they're inconsolable. Well, at least she had mum to cuddle up to. Adults are not in the child's world as adults and they don't-can't understand. Unfortunately they get the message that Mommy "understands and cares"....which creates deep emotional problems. Emotional companionship is not parenting.
I am not sure what you are trying to say here. I assure you that your last statement is not relevent to my household, I am very much a parent to my children and not a "friend," which I think is more detrimental than being an "emotional companion." For a basic relationship of trust to form between parent and child, parents have to exhibit a caring and safe environment in which children can express their feelings. This is invaluable in preparation for difficult teenage years.

I think that people should relax. This little girl is crying over someone that she actually KNOWS and not some celebrity- like Justin Bieber or Nick Jonas. Her mom did a great job explaining that Stephen couldn't go and why. And with the way the world is today- it won't be her first broken heart. People need to calm down. Kids cry! I cried. Most of the pictures my mom took of my brother and me are of us crying. We both kicked ass on the SAT, have fulfilling lives, we're fine. Relaaax.
Dude Kids cry about everything, theres nothing wrong with recording her. She'll probably look at this in 10 years and laugh. My mom used to record me everytime I watched the lion king because I cried during the middle... Even though i watched it multiple times a day.. EVERYDAY. Now I see the video and its HILARIOUS. What would ever possess you to film your daughter when she is sad and crying?!?!?! That poor baby has real emotions and you saw this as an opportunity to get a good film for youtube? I was patient and understanding (I have a Psych degree by the way) for two hours prior to getting the camera. I realized there were things at work besides feelings for "Stephen" and wanted to share this with our family. Two years ago there was no such thing as facebook. Youtube was the only way to post a video where my family could go see it. The file was to big to send. Back then I wasn't privy to the privacy settings...it was never my intention to involve, much less upset strangers like you.
I keep it up because most people identify with the situation, they often feel, or have felt the same way. Besides, Hannah likes getting positive comments and knowing that there are compassionate people out there who felt for her.
Oh and I adore your daughter. I think she has such a sensitive and intuitive heart to be so attached to someone at this age and be able to expel her emotions the way she did. She's pure and lovely and I pray that you both have a blessed life in Japan! :)

As an early childhood educator, I know for a fact that this is perfectly normal for children her age. They really come to a certain point wherein they kind of feel very attached to a person, more often than not, people older than her. But yes, this is very cute. Children just have this power to make us smile. This is not humiliation, this is just plain truth.

It's innocent so...we don't think of things at that time when we have a CRUSH on an older person when were FOUR, I wonder what you were thinking about when you were 4...makes me wonder...

Two years ago was 2008, it is now 2010. I stand corrected about the creation date of facebook, let me re-phrase, "I knew nothing about facebook when this video was created and wanted to post it for my family who couldn't receive large attachments through their e-mail accounts." PS, my daughter is fine.

@CharlizeTanLim You idiot, facebook may have come out in 2004, but you had to be a college student with a student ID number to use it. It didn't open to everyone til september 26, 2006...and the only people that really used it were college students, so how would this woman know anything about it at that time, so go do you research b4 you say things like "Facebook this" and Facebook that, oh and I feel sorry for you child". I think this is a cute family moment for this family, don't judge...

I think that people should relax. This little girl is crying over someone that she actually KNOWS and not some celebrity- like Justin Bieber or Nick Jonas. Her mom did a great job explaining that Stephen couldn't go and why. And with the way the world is today- it won't be her first broken heart. She'll just be a lot stronger and wiser when she's older :)

Dude Kids cry about everything, theres nothing wrong with recording her. She'll probably look at this in 10 years and laugh. My mom used to record me everytime I watched the lion king because I cried during the middle... Even though i watched it multiple times a day.. EVERYDAY. Now I see the video and its HILARIOUS. Point is, she lived. Kids cry a lot, its part of the package.

i am actually amazed! did she say something about steven being her teacher? aww thats so adorable but on another level its so sad. she genuinely 'loves' the guy. i just wanted to give her a big hug... its ridiculous that i acted exacly the same way when my girlfriend broke up with me last month... i feel so sorry for her. heartbreak is a pain that no 4 year old should experience... unfortunately we will all experience it at some point. give her a big hug from me :)

I was patient and understanding (I have a Psych degree by the way) for two hours prior to getting the camera. I realized there were things at work besides feelings for "Stephen" and wanted to share this with our family. Two years ago there was no such thing as facebook. Youtube was the only way to post a video where my family could go see it. The file was to big to send. Back then I wasn't privy to the privacy settings...it was never my intention to involve, much less upset strangers like you.

Little girls usually get in love with their fathers, of course this is not like we do, but it's something real, but diferent from us.
this seems to be what we called in psichology as "Transference", it's when a little child transfer their needs to love to someone whos not their parents because they are absent, as she is a girl, it seems to me that she doesnt have a father who gives her much of love and atention !

As an early childhood educator, I know for a fact that this is perfectly normal for children her age. They really come to a certain point wherein they kind of feel very attached to a person, more often than not, people older than her. But yes, this is very cute. Children just have this power to make us smile. This is not humiliation, this is just plain truth.
