The Mig-23rd's purpose was similar to F-14th - variable wing was needed to land on the deck of never built Soviet Ulianovsk-class CATOBAR nuclear powered aircraft carrier. Carrier supposed to be smaller so as the jet. Two of four ship were struck in 80% hull and machinery readiness due to Admiralty lobby died. Air force so as jet designer wasn't so fully operational jet survived and took heavy fighting in a number of conflicts, generally supersedding contemporary F-16 on the Middle and Near East
The F-111 may be classified as a fighter, but those of us who knew her, knew it was used only as a bomber. In the opening days of Desert Storm, we had AIM-9's loaded on side rails on the outer stations, but they were never used, and after a week, we removed all of them, and stuck with LGB's. Good times!

I dont knew, maybye. On swiss AFB in summer Pilots or groundcrew use sometimes also the bike (as alternative for walking, car or bus).
