  • Sensual, yet powerful

    Beautiful, but still masculine

As a beginning dancer myself, I salute all the women AND men who perform the art of belly dancing. Everytime I watch one of these clips, it reminds me to keep practicing and makes me truly appreciate a culture I wasn't even aware of a year ago ^_^

  • @CxHxRxIxSxTxIxAxN Not only that, but this is the best camera work I've seen.

  • Good dancing!

  • I do not care what others have said. He dances with masuclinty, other male belly dancer,I could confuse them with women, He certianly sets it out that he is a male. And even if he is a little fast, but he certainly uses masculity. Men and women belly dancers have the same concepts to start. BUt I certainly must say that you, shiva, have a good dancer skills. Truley astounnding.

  • I just realized he's dancing for a bunch of old women. XD

I'm sure they're enjoying the show.

Something about the way he dances gives such a manly appeal. I wouldn't confuse him for a girl. Could be his body type too.

  • wow Awesome I really enjoyed your performance you have Skills amazing !

  • Wow! On e veil is difficult to handle - two is more than difficult. His dancing is controlled and positvely amazing! Kudos to a fantastic Middle Eastern Dancer!!!!!!!!!

  • You work Very well withe drummer!

Unbelievable ENERGY! Handsome to boot! Your profile looks pharaonic.

when doing 2x veil maybe slow it down a bit. The only reason that i say this is veils are soft not aggressive like a cane may be.

Try it. I have been dancing for 30yrs. Just loaning some experience.

  • Very nice!

  • I found this video last year and marked it favorite, this year is genie of the lamp. Time to make a DVD's Shiva. I love the way you dance.

  • Gorgeous!!!

  • Great performance and wonderful to see the male bellydancers out there sharing their skills! Some beautiful transgender performers too (well, I'm not bad!) and the famous Noor of Morocco- amazing performer, teacher, wonderful person and friend too. It really is an art and enjoyment we ALL can share. Thanks again! x

  • I like you videos Jamil,I'm from Romania,a male belly dancer, but i am 17 years old. Very nice style! Shams belly dancer

  • WoW this is amazing!!! I'm a male belly dancer too,but i am 17 years old..

  • beautiful--one of my favorites

  • Hello, cool.,)

Coment me on youtube, ricardo martim bellydance.

    take care

  • Not bad for a male but he lacks control and feeling important elements of the

oriental dance. Why dance so fast???

Slow down the tempo and individual

    movements will stand out better.

    Discard the cape!!!! Concentrate on

using body movements to their best

    advantage. Keep the dance simple!

    Cal Hodgdon (Samir)

  • its not a 'cape'. They are two veils.

not bad for a male? Are u aware of how prominent men are in raqs sharki. I don't think that would go down well with the likes of Mahmoud reda, tito,Mo Gadawi or even kazafy.

  • hummm... samir, every professional dancer has their own style and while i believe dancing slow is great, in dance there must be a reason for everything you do... so if hes dancing fast, there is a reason.. a feeling he wants to convey, where as if he were dancing slow it would not be the same feeling. also remember the tempo of the song. pretty fast. you can not dance slow to a fast song. and in my opinion this dancer concentrates a lot on his movements... we must be seeing different vids lol

  • @samirfouad1

I don't comment specifically on his dance ability because I am not a dancer and have no basis for assessment. However, as a drummer, I believe he was "dancing so fast" because the rhythm given to him was fast. Especially at the beginning. Don't be too critical. There were other parts where the tempo went faster but he maintained a slow controlled rhythm. A good dancer knows how to take a rhythm and break it down from 2/4 to 4/4, essentially dancing in slow motion if desired.

  • Samir, I'm m not sure if you are a professional dancer or not, but Shiva is one of Australia's premier Male orienal dancers, and he is twirling the veil and his body fast because the rythm is fast. If you nderstand Ra'as sharki, you realise that you have to follow the music, either fast or slow or medium rythm/melody...

  • I agree with helenblondelTV - each dancer is trying to covery something different, and if you kept it simple (in 2010) you would have to be Souheir Zaki to be entertaining, thats why dancers use a varety of moves

  • @samirfouad1 Okay so you evidently have no idea about bellydancing if you can't differentiate between a "cape" and a "veil". Shiva is amazing, I've seen him so many times live & have worshipped him for years. Once, he pulled me up to dance with him at a restaurant. His individual movements stand out perfectly fine, it's just hard to see in a relatively low definition video. He lacks no control of his body. In fact if you saw how his body (omg especially the stomach) flowed, you'd gasp too.

  • Ok from a fan girl perspective, this is seriously the MOST ATTRACTIVE thing I have ever seen.

From a more professional viewpoint this is absolutely amazing. I wish I had moves like this!!! absolutely amazing!!!

  • Thank you!

  • Only five years ago! You are magnificent! I shared this video with my four male dance students/troupe members, for inspiration!

  • that is fantastic! It is so great to see males sharing in the beauty of Raqs sharki. And even better that you have taken them under your wing. :-)

Thank you so much for the compliment.

  • Prince, Oh My Seid! Lovely!

i wish if i could dance like you :)

  • I love your style of bellydance - it's awesome, full of energy, flexibility and masculine grace. Keep dancing dude... let the world know that belly dance is every bit a man's art as well as a woman's.

  • Shiva.. I love you style. Gretting from Venezuela, Prince Omar al Khabir

  • Hi!! this is allah male belly dancer.

    greetings!!

  • hi Bellydance shiva, there is a strange turkish belly dancer diva on your right on utube doing very strange exhibition of movements, so different from the artistic performance of yours even though I am sure you are totally capable of doing what he does, your aim is not the same, it is clear that you love to dance! Rell me what you think

  • superb Lasya and Laya!

  • most likely be me. I've performed at quite a few hundred weddings so I can't get the exact function centre of that year..but yeah to answer yr quest, woulda have been myself and my partner..;-)

  • thanks habib. New posting will be done in april..finally!

  • My mind is totally blown. I'm going to have to convince you to come out my way to give a workshop or two one of these years!

    Blessings!

  • nice job!! nice dance..:)

im half turkish..so i knew a little bit of belly dance..:)

  • this is weird and looks gay . . . belly dancers are made for woman to show their body... not for men!

  • you obviously haven't bothered doing any research on oriental dance. perhaps you should go to Egypt, the home of raqs sharki as tell all the leading MALE teachers, i.e Mohammad kazafi and Tito of you knowledge. I'm sure your ignorance will go down well...not to mention yr stupidity.

  • You exude such strength and joy through your dancing! Well done! Lililililililili Yip!!!

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! thanks thanks :-)))

  • Shiva, I´m a woman. I do envy how you move! Great passion and technique.

  • OMG, this is, like, gay! I mean yay!

No seriously this is awesome. He just needs to have less clothes on.

  • an inspiration 4 a jew

  • hi shiva, its esen from erciyes restaurant, remember? of course u do! i havn't seen u in ages! i hope ur healthy and happy, and that everything is going well for u. U deserve it. Great vid by the way, top form as always. Lots of love and kisses xox

  • WOW!

  • well actually she is a he and I acutally didnt do any fusion. I havent done rajasthani or bhangra b4 so it must be luck that I somehow managed to put that in there. Its a combination of egyptian raqs sharki with my own technique. yeah it was pretty fast paced I think and I've slowed up quite a bit.

this vid was taken about 4yrs ago..Im gona update it pretty soon...

    fingers crossed

  • Is this wonderful powerful dancer Canadian?

  • hey,

my natio is indian. I've grown up in Australia pretty much my whole life.

  • That'd be it :D

I'd love to see more vids from you!

  • hey, ive got some new vids up

  • im just wondering, umm do you speak Arabic fluently??

  • unfortunetly not lena. Its a bit hard trying to get a good grasp with my egpytian, lebanese n gulf friends..everybody wants you to learn their dialect. inshallah I will get myself back into class. how about you?

  • No I don't speak it, but I want to learn. It's just such a beautiful language. Plus, most of the music I listen to is Arabic, so it would be nice if I could understand the deeper meaning of the song-- the translation ;)

  • my god he's very sexy male belly dancer ^^

  • I really love your style, and the group that accompanies your dancing is great, as well. You're one of the few bellydancers I've seen that really plays up the music. Can I ask where you learnt, and what style? I pick some almost Indian Odissi qualities in your handwork.

  • hey,

I learnt from practice at the beginning but then I took a few classes and had also learnt a lot from a lady here in Sydney. I learnt the egypt form of raqs sharki. The band were great that night tho I had no idea what they were going to play so it was pretty much improvised. as for the odissi style, I haven't learnt any indian dance forms b4 but perhaps it just came out in my performance.

  • While the arms are excellent and leg work is magnificent, try and work on your lower abdomen muscles. Not overly effeminate either which is rare, lots of belly dancers in Middle East are rather effeminate. Good work Shiva.

  • haha yeah this was taken about 4 years ago when the abs didnt exist...I'll update this week with a more recent vid...

    bloody flabs

  • I actually like the "flab" very much. Stick-thin never did well in a profession that valued curves. You can't accent the curves very well if you don't have any.

  • wow!!!

    I have no words :D

  • You are very good! Do you tour outside of Australia? I may be comming to Australia this summer, in which venues do you dance?

  • I do quite a lot of dancing.November and december is prety much full on. Let me know when you're down and will gladly give u some details. :-)

  • there is a turkish male diva, if you like this you ,you will not believe your eyes, this dancner is also great, luv it,

  • does he/she have a name

  • You are really good!

At what age did you start doing belly dance?

It looks like you're having fun, and that's the best part about the dance.

    =]

  • hey thanks lena. I started dancing about 5 years ago. u know, I truly believe that this dance is one that is so individual. U have to feel it from within, the music n the soul of it. Its hard to explain. hope u know what I mean. In arabic they say aHsas which is roughly translated as the feeling. i.e the feeling u have for the dance (passion)

  • after watching you perform at castle hill tonight..l would have to say you were the best dancer in the room,,you have a great presence on stage and l hope l can see you perform live again,,wish there were more male bellydancers like you Shiva

  • Whoa, wait a minute. That's you, bellydanceshiva?

You must have no problem with the ladies. ;D

Aside from the face, dancing, and outfit, I love the... uhh... I don't know what you call it. Zaghrute? That lelelelele thing. How do you do that?

  • haha..yea dats my site. gotta love the ladies I say..:-) you got the zaghreet bit down pact. I love da sound of it aye. there are two ways of doing it..try say la la la then making yr voice go higher..then faster..

  • HAHAH no prob wif the ladies indeed..

thats right the zaghreet or the lebs say zalghuta. its hard to explain. one way of doing it is by saying la la lal lala at a high pitch..the other is to move yr tongue side to side..

  • he's a great dancer !

  • Wow, very nice! Liked the hip work :)

  • Excellent dancing Shiva. It is not "just a woman's art", that is a Western idea. The men in the Middle East/Egypt have been doing it for centuries along with ladies.

  • Thank you very much. And I totally agree with you. Its a shame that the dance is often represtented as a women's art. It should be owned by both sexes and enjoyed.

  • HALE SHIVA!!

  • shou hale ya midi

  • WOW soooo amazing!! DANG HE'S HOT!!

  • u a Shiva alright. love it. love you

  • lol dats quiet nice of you. I gotta update my youtube I think tho.

  • dude.wow. man. cool- what do the couples belly dancing look like?

  • Are u meaning my dance partner and I..what do u look like when we dance together? If so...looks amazing. two reasn. theres the male/female chemistry. Strong, masculine with the graceful. its quite seductive but not sexual. And theres a strength between us in drum solo and taksims

  • I wanna see! :) The whole art is just so beautiful. I bet you guys rock!

  • the best I have seen

  • :-)Hey thanks heaps Poc, thats very very sweet. But you know, I just do what I love doing. I think every1 shows it with what ever they do, If they love it that is

  • Ho wow Shiva you are amazing ! All the Best ...

  • Thanks Zadiel, keep on shimmying hey.

  • i've seen him perform live like 3 times.. and never ceases to amaze me.. always puts everyone to shame!! ahah love his style!!

  • nice nice ziz, where abouts have to seen? I'd love some criticism too..can always improve on many things...

  • Hey! REALLY delayed reply! iv seen u at a couple of my church's dinner dances.. & at El phoenecian in parramatta @ my friends 18th!.. not being a pro in belly dancing i cant really pick up on your flaws!! really u never cease 2 amaze me! im always bragging on about how u put all the female belly dancers to shame!! Lol i hear ur goin 2 be performing @ my universitys orientation day! so im excited to see!!!

    best of luck!! xo

  • haha omg that was shocking. I cracked it at the organiser about the sound system..or rather lack of. How embarrassing aye!

Hey any constructive criticism is better then none so bring it on. :-)

Next time you're at el phos, make sure you say hi..and i'll get ya up to dance.

    x:-)

  • hahaha i recorded u on my phone so my friend could see it and it almost killed the speakers of the fone .. haha the sound system was ear piercing!! but nonetheless u never cease 2 amaze ;) il deff come and say hi! il be like IM THE GIRL FROM UTUBE! lol yayy!

    keep on bein awesome! xo

  • SHIVA YOU ARE THE BEST!!

  • hmmm I might add that to my professional title hey?

  • wow he just masterd a womens art.lol

  • a thousand thanks. :-)

  • Belly dancing... Oriental dancing... is not a womens' art, NOR is it a mans' art. It's a people art. People of all shapes, sizes, genders, and ages are welcome to take part in this beautiful dance. Why must people always have the idea in their mind that only good-looking women can do it? Its completely false. All it takes is dedication and patience, it has nothing to do with whether you're a woman or not.

  • i love u as i said

  • ok ok group hug!

  • Sweet. Very sweet.

  • Nicee

  • He is wonderful! I haven't a clue how he has that kind of stamina.

  • You gain it through belly dancing.

  • U def do gain it. And thanks to God you loose a bit of stomach in the process.. yay to my abs that have finally come up..

  • LelelelelelelelelelelelleYIP!

I want to go study with him!

  • great performance!!
