The tray where you put the docs on will show you whether the docs should be placed "Face up or down.

@Jodie151279 usually the fax machine owners manual will tell you. some faxes are different. However, i have a hp2140 i use at home and you face the pages away from you and upside down. So while the paper (printed side) is facing you, turn it upside down, then flip it over and insert it in the tray. type your fax number in a press send. It then will copy the documents and spit them out as it does each page. once it completes all the pages, then it will begin to call the other fax. :)
