@juwon90 Loved the sound of them, but nothing but problems with the tweeters. Kept having to ship them back, and they'd send me new ones. M-Audio knows there's a problem, and rather than send me my 4th set of them, they finally offered to swap them out for the DSM2's - Even exchange. So, that's what I have now. Love those too.
Love the tour, brother... especially the beginning.. haha i almost flagged you for being LAME. So fuckin hilarious. I can't believe this is your house. It's pretty damn professional. Nice joint.
Cubase is WAAAAY better than protools...I like the plugins much better, plus you can interface Reason with cubase i a snap...But I still know how to use protools...
I don't understand the debates - Most DAWs have the same specs, so the output is the same. It's all 'ease of use'. I started with Cubase about 10 years ago, so I learned their interface. That's what I'm used to. I tried PT M-Powered, and wasn't able to quickly see how to do all the things I already knew how to do in Cubase, so I gave up. One thing I will say - PT always seems to be behind the curve on supporting 3rd party stuff. I always see "Now works in PT" with apps that I've used for ages.
Now that I have the isolation room, the true character of the mic comes through. For the money, it's a pretty warm, rich mic. Likely the best in it's price range. Can't say it's the best around, as I've only had 2 others - One (non-vavle) $99 MXL, a Sterling Audio, and this one. Still, with plugins these days, you can make just about anything sound pretty sweet. Thanks for the comment.
Who's to say I'm not a midget...? LOL.... No, I'm not... Actually, I've never had an issue with the monitor height. Today my 40" HDTV will be arriving, and I plan to have that where the 19" monitors are now, then I plan to (somehow) mount the 19" monitors above the 40". That way, I can run Cubase in the 40", and my VST's and whatnot will be up in the 19" monitors. Gonna be sweet!
Hey man, I visited here before, but im curious. Where did you get those fancy floor lamps? im digging those, I want to get them ladies in my place you know?
Also, since this vid was recorded, I mounted a 17" flat panel monitor in the isolation closet, and have a wireless mouse in there, so I can monitor input levels, add tracks, adjust the control room/headphone mix, etc.
No kidding.... 9 out of 10 studio tours on YouTube are punctuated with "no what I'm sayin'?" instead of a period at the end of every sentence. Also, i should have had my TV blasting in the background...That seems to be the "in thing" too. LOL!
where did u get the money for this dude? what do u do for a living? honest question cuz was wondering if u were a musician by profession and are able to support urself like this.
Dude...just out of curiosity, what made you choose the EX66's?
I know their obnoxiously loud, big & impressive looking with chest thumping bass...which is ideal for a club or a home theatre situation, but for a near-field studio set up,these beasts have entirely too much bass to achieve an accurate mix & for $1200 a pair,I just can't see the logic for your application.
A pair of Adam A7's are the most accurate pair of monitors on the planet for there price range & they're $200 cheaper.
To suggest A7's are the most accurate is subjective. If that were true, why would any store stock any other monitor? Second, the EX66's aren't obnoxiously loud nor do they provide chest thumping bass. I've heard Genelec's and Dynaudio's were the best. I A/B'd them with the 66's and felt the 66's had better separation and overall richness. And bottom line, my mixes sound great, where ever I play them, because (for me) the 66's give a true reference. Oh, and I paid $800 for the pair - Brand new.
Fair enough dude,if the EX66's work for you..cool.
If my only choices were the EX66's versus the Genelecs & Dynaudios,I'd go with the M-Audio's
just based on the price difference.
As for the Genelecs & Dynaudios being the best..well..that's popular opinion because they're widely advertised, but the Adams have a much more accurate high end-which is NOT subjective..just check out the specs:
Frequency response is 46Hz - 35kHz vs. M-Audio's 37Hz - 22kHz ......
....the M-Audio's have the Adams beat in bass response, but that's due to the M-Audio's two woofers per cabinet, versus Adam's one woofer.
As for the high end, there is no contest between the Adam's high end accuracy versus M-Audio,Genelec & Dynaudio, because Adam has them ALL beat on detail & clarity on the high end.
Yes of course, the human ear can't hear beyond 20,000 cycles per second(20kHz),but because of Adam's broad range of up to 35 kHz,this gives the tweeter much more overall accuracy....
On my old system, I could never get the bass sounding right. Perhaps due to my room, or my previous monitors. My mixes always sounded muddy and at the same time brittle on the high end. I'm not a cheerleader for any brand name - These just happened to work great in my studio. Honestly, my mixes are SO, SO much easier now. I used to run through 50 discs, playing them in the car, home stereo etc, trying to fix the bass and highs. Now, what I hear in the 66's translates everywhere.
I disagree as well. They have a fluctuation of 3db throughout the audio spectrum and lack bass needed for hiphop/club music. I own a pair of Jbl lsrs and they only fluctuate 1.5 db from 50hz to 20khz.
THe flatter the response= technically more accurate.
wow you got a really nice setup and that wireless thing u got that records and stops the track and all when u r in the booth will that work on any recording program and how in it installed
The wireless controller (TranzPort) has a USB receiver that installs on the computer. It has a driver, as well as a "plugin" for the recording program - The plugin provides ready-to-use controller mappings for your recording program. Their web site has plugins for all the major applications. You can also create custom mappings to control features that maybe didn't come with the original plugin.
hey...i'm really split on getting the project mix..it looks too good to be true for the price..i've heard the pre's are decent at best, and that people have had trouble with the pre's cracking with recording drums..you had any problems? you seem pretty happy with yours..any thing you can tell me to keep me from buying this? i love your set up by the way nice very nice..
I had the Presonus Firepod - Not sure if it was the pre's or the I/O converters, but my mixes are effortless on the ProjectMix. I love it. I've heard some say the pre's are too hot, and clip too easy (like you mentioned, this is typically with drums). I have yet to record live drums, so I can't comment. I know the trim knob only needs to be turned to 10 o'clock before a guitar (plugged in direct) clips. So, I keep it at 9 o'clock with no problems. It's a great unit, and the price is amazing.
Nice looking studio. The transport controller looks effective, am thinking about buying one. This is the first demo I have seen of it. The peak meter makes me even more interested.
LOL!!! Thanks Captain Obvious. You think maybe with all the project studios out there, there might be a market out there for those of us who work alone...? LOL! Oh sorry, now I'm being obvious.
why did you choose those m-audio monitors...in my opinion THERE ARE LOT BETTER MONITORS THEN THIS. But you have really nice studio, all those acoustic shit n stuff, how much did you spend on acoustics
hey dude, you said you had problems with ur ex66's? i've read pretty good review about them so far. i really really want these.
