Gorgeous, rich, satisfying music from an incredible songstress. Her lyrics and melody is spellbinding and carries me along like a breeze. She is in my heart every time I sing her songs.
It's funny how she sounds so insincere, yet she wrote the song! She's an extremely talented songwriter but her vocals never carry out her songs' true potential. She knows it too.
@skipper8257 This woman, Carol king was resposible for aprox 120 hits throughout her career. Many most came in the 60's. Where she got these melodies from really amazes me. Song writers are an incredible group to me, and Carol was mabey the top 3 or 4 af all time, Just google her hits, and you will be amazed, She and Jerry were a great team. But The Lord gave her a special gift.. and she used it well..I would love to see her story in a film..Martin Scorcesse, are you listening???
@jilhal24 Funny how Lou Adler said that no one would ever return her demos because everyone liked them so much. Whatever technical flaws she may have vocally, she more than compensates with great sense of rhythm, phrasing, and understanding of structure. I'd much rather hear Carole King sing with her piano than listen to someone belt, go into histrionics, and shout look at me and forget the song. Dusty Springfield, a superior vocalist, kept Carole's demos and treasured them to her death.
I wish all these lip sync wannabe's and air guitar heroes, that they actually hand awards too ( For What? Best Fraud) had to prove their talent, live, unplugged, But we know that will never happen, it takes years of hard work, training your voice, and rough fingers from playing to be an artist and she is one without a doubt. I dont have the talent to be an artist, just the good sense to know one when I hear them. I am happy I have real music in my life.
I love Carole and her songs. Kinda wish she wouldn't do some of her best songs like this so slow though. Will You Love Me Tomorrow is another one of hers that she does real slow. It just doesn't cut it. Gotta have that rhythm.
i recently listened to a carole king collection album by chance, and I couldn't believe all the great songs she wrote. I'd never even heard of her before, what a great artist! thanks carole.
Gerry Goffin and Carol King wrote it for Maxine Brown who sung it first. Carol sung this version live after Maxine Brown, so although its Carols (and Gerrys) song, Maxine sang the original version.... hope that explains it! :-)
Wrong....it was given to the shirelles...but didnt work out. Maxine Brown re-interpreted it from thier hashed recording and released it... I have to say Maxines is the best production/interpretation.
no offense against her fans, but honestly, carole king is more beautiful in this video than in her '70's ones. but her voice never changed. it still has that raw feeling sound. that's why i love the way she sings. you don't hear a very natural voice like this nowadays anymore. thanks for posting.
"Maybe a great song writer?" Are you kidding? Look-up all the songs she has written, she has to be in the top 10o of all song writers and probably the most successful female song writer of all time. On top of that, she's really nice. I met her and she took the time to have a conversation with me,
Unless my memory is playing me tricks(!) I'm sure Carole and Merry Clayton did this song as a duet on a British TV show(OGWT?) many years ago, maybe late 70s. If it exists I haven't found it yet. Can anybody shed light on this?
You are right - a great performance - someone put it on Youtube - OGWT - maybe early 70's - they were filmed in the studio as Merry Clayton was recording the track for an album...
Sou a fã número UUUUUUUUUUuum da Carole King. Se alguém conhece o Hard Rock Café, há de concordar que Labirynth e One são dois dos melhores legados dela, para toda a eternidade. Pena que a Karen Carpenter somente gravou One Fine Day e It's Going to Take Some Time, dela.

I don't know any song by Carole that I love (though I like a lot of hers) , except this one. She wrote it and does a fine job of singing it.

This song captures the exact moment when we find out that the one we poured our love into has had someone else.
Carole King = songwriter genius.

Carole is the bomb, for sure. But don't forget, it was Gerry Goffin who wrote the lyrics; gotta give props to him, too.

@pls9927 Very well said! Very sad none the less.

One of the most beautiful lyrics and melodies ever. I am sorry but there are not a lot of great female songwriters but Carol, L Nero, PJ Harvey
C Hynde, Cynthia Weil, and Ellie Greenwich are some of the best.

She looks beautiful and natural... about 60 at that time.
