  • Thumbs Up if you are watching this on valentines day ^.^

  • we did this in science class, and then we held the sealed balloon over an open flame, standing at a distance, of course. We turned the lights out. It was pretty sweet.

  • Yeah I did this in chemistry lab and I was holding the test tube and that shit went on my hands and burned like a motherfucker

  • the music sounds like it'd be from a spanish porno

  • cool experiment but if you dont mind me asking what was the name of the music you used :)

  • Wtf music?

  • stupid heart ballons but good experiment

  • hydrogen heart.:D

  • thnks

  • what is the name of the gas created?

  • @SPARRRKLEEES hydrogen

  • EXPLOSIVE BOOBIES XD

  • How much of HCl and Zn did you guys put in?

  • 0:52 DEVIL balloon. Yep.

  • Jigalipuff Lol

  • the one on the left looks like balls before it sticks up

  • I though those were cat balloons for a sec there :s

  • The red balloon looked like a devil head

  • 2HCl + Zn -> ZnCl2 + H2

  • I love the music from ChemToddler.

  • how much zinc and HCl should be mixed together for this? i need to perform this experiment for my final project in gr 12 chem so any info would be greatly helpful

  • Try to burn that baloon

  • would sulfuric acid do the same?

  • @stone4bread Yes. Pretty much any acid reacting with a metal will produce the acid's salt of that metal with hydrogen gas.

  • Was the reaction in each beaker the same? If so why was the volume of hydrogen gas different? (unless the surface tention of the baloons was vastly different)

  • balloons look like nut sacks

  • what was the formula for this? I think it.s Zn + 2HCl => ZnCl2 + H2 im not sure tho before the balanced equation

  • @nickpro11

    That is correct

  • lol...... empty balloons

  • Nice balloons when they are empty of air LOL

  • i tried this experiment today

basically all we do is get hydro acid and dip a tiny little peice of zinc magnesium or copper and find out the reactions

    and does anybody know

what does hydro-acid do to your skin or clothes?

  • to make a bomb put aluminum foil into a bottle pour some acid and you have a bomb :D

  • take the balloon off and put a lit match up to the rim of the flask and it should make a cool sound

  • @AMckiE95 it's really hard to record all the sounds and even the experiments sometimes, working conditions are not exactly hollywood :-)

  • Sorry if I missed it. But why was the reaction on the right side of the screen more violent and produced more H2 than the other?

  • they either look like genitalia or love hearts. i prefer to think the latter :)

  • penneys are made of zink!!!!!

  • balloons at 0:35 and dark red one at 0:51 XD

  • the first one looks like a pair of kidneys LOL

  • could someone help me, how can i design a simple experiment to show the differences between organic and inorganic acids? thanks

  • our reaction was quite slow,

i remember that we didnt use hydrochloric acid but we used sulphuric acid i think

    Zn + H2SO4 --> ZnSO4 + H2

  • can teach chem

  • can teach me chemistry??

  • Do acetone and styrofoam.

  • @kbob4000 we will!

  • @ChemToddler Really? Cool!

  • @kbob4000 what happens?

  • Where are you from? :D I'm interested because you have hydrochloric acid with slovak translation! :))))

  • I'm going to assume that it's a 1:1 mole ratio? I'm doing this experiment at school tomorrow and possibly the caustic soda and aluminium reaction.

  • in science we did this but we put a match up to it and it exploded it was awesome!

  • how many volt and amps does it take to break up water.

  • Hydrochloric acid - HCl

    Zink - Zn

There will take a redox reaction place.

    Zn (s) + HCl (g) -> Zn+ + H+ Cl- -> ZnCl(s) + H2 (g)

The baloons are filled with H2 gas. Its a molecule dying to bond with Oxigen to form H2O. This bonding will be Warm, Hot, Fast. very explosive

  • @CuteNpurrfic The balOOOM!

  • which container was the zinc was it the pink balloon one?????

    please reply

  • when you light the balloon, it looks crazy

  • definitly not a heart balloon

  • Hello, i am curious why there is a difference between the 2 reactions? have you used the same chemicals for both? and what are the concentrations you used for both

    Thank you

  • Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon song, makes this whole video a lot more fun.

  • now poke them with a flaming stick

  • How would lighting the balloons on fire prove that the gas is H2?

  • ok this is how it works(i did this in my science class a few weeks ago) the HCL is Hydrocloric Acid or Hydrogen and Clorine, and when the Clorine disolves the Zinc the only thing left is Hyrogen which is REALLY flamable (Hidenburg) so when the Hydrogen was heated, it EXPLODED

  • ... wtf us wrong with u

  • They should have lit it on fire and made the sound

  • Zn + 2HCl ---> ZnCl2 + H2

  • look at the ballons at 0:41

  • chemistry is cool.

  • yea, I miss the finale!

  • nice music to go along with it.

  • So what was the product that filled up the balloon? Hydrogen gas H2 right? And then Zinc Chloride (ZnCl2) stayed at the bottom of the flask correct?

  • Right, but also you have a thorough description on our website under "factors affecting reaction rate"

  • way to advertise

gr8 video, i want to know what would happen if you did not use the balloons

would the hydrogen have exploded with the oxygen in the air?

  • We used the balloons only to show that the gas was actually liberated, so you don't have to take our word for it.

H2 would also be liberated without the balloons, but than you cannot call it a demonstration video :-)

No explosions or anything spectacular, unless you have a match of course -that could've been done to prove that the gas is H2. Maybe next time.

  • in my 8th grade science class we did this a few weeks ago except we didnt use ballons so when we lit a a macth the Oxygen in the fire combined with the Hydrogen AND WE MADE WATER

  • burning almost everything makes water, carbon dioxide and heat if you haven't noticed

  • @SupremeChickenx and by burning the hydrogen in air with oxygen, you would get water (H20) :)

  • where do you get all this stuff?(especialy bromine)

  • wow, u don't need helium for baloon anymore :). This vid just gave me an answer for chemistry homework.

  • lol i found one of u posts

  • there was a famous experiment using a hydrogen-filled balloon. it was called the hindenburg.

  • LOL!!

  • salty
