WOW! Now those were the recordings day. Having a live orchestra playing and being recorded right along with the vocalists inside the very same recording studio all at the same time. I don't think most of todays singers can hold a candle to the singers of that time. Especially this beautiful lady Diana Ross.
with all the herring bone jackets and stuff--- soul is passed on-- your parents had it...to be sure-- remember your graces.. if you forget or derive some other thing--- soul is pissed off.
dianes voice was absolutely like crystal yet velvet ..a very pretty light sound..not really black not really white..right in the middle..unique..un heard and no one has sounded anything like it since. flo n mary was good..but dianes voice always stood out. it was very different.
Pardon my ignorance, but is that Flo on the left and Mary on the right? (Ha, isn't that like the lyric from Dion's "The Wanderer"? "There's Flo on my left arm, and there's Mary on the right...")
It's a shame there was no actual footage from actual recording sessions. Although this one makes me wonder - why would you bring all of those musicians in only to make a commercial? I have been to Hitsville and been in the studio and I don't recall it being this big - although the studio I was in (from what I understand) doesn't retain all of the original recording equipment. Great footage - thanks for posting.
Berry was all promotionally minded, and invested incredible amounts of money to get footage like this aired all over the world. But at the same time, he was very picky about showing parts of the studio, if any, so nobody could go out there and copy him. Yeah the studio blows peoples minds as to how small it is. Berry's sister Esther has done a great job keeping the place up, but it still lacks authentic equipment, something most people don't see like we do.
As far as the session footage goes, I do know they had one full time photographer for stills and movies at Hitsville only, that was his only job there. The footage is out there still today, but Gordy has kept it tight from the public and probably always will.
omg the violins!! wow pure music.. i so love the strings in this song.. this is when music was perfect.. the golden age.. just listen how everything flows.. not like the crap nowadays all the rap and junk i.e. 50 cent etc. My grandma said it right.. "There will never be a time in music like there was in motown".

Love it: REAL musicians as back-up. You don't ever see that anymore. What a great song.

It ain't Flo, it's Moe...
Well there's Moe on my left and Mary on my right,
And Janie is the girl well that I'll be with tonight,
And when she ask me which one I love the best,
I tear open my shirt and I show Rosie on my chest,
'Cause I'm a wanderer, yeah I'm a wanderer
I roam around around around around hmmm

God, it's unbelievable how many strong songs Motown produced with the help of that composing/writing team of Dozier & Holland!

Miss Ross gave a performance in the studio like she was onstage...She was meant to be what she became
