I have seen aged stallions and first-ride young mares respond exactly the same way--when they are handled with gentleness and understanding. I have others who resist learning; gentleness works with them too, it just takes longer to 'not take no for an answer'.
Also SOME children/people are more perceptive to the horse's first 'try', the first approximation of right response, so they make faster progress. Peceptive horse+perceptive rider =WOW; strong-willed + impatient =disaster in Any Method
LOVE this video, ....beautiful child, beautiful horse...they are a credit to you...:) Thanks so much for sharing and hope we see more videos in the future...Didi.:) xx
That is absolutely awesome! I'm sitting here with a huge smile on my face :) If only all children learned this way from such a young age; how much better the world would be for horses and humans alike.
@VivaLaVidaChica Thank you as that is surely what we hope our clip inspires for all ages of people and horses. You can see more clips of Whisper and her variety of partners on our You Tube channel Whisparelli1.
@inspiredequestrian I have developed my relationship Whisper since her birth. I introduced Haylie and her mom, Brandi to Parelli and Whisper when Haylie was about 14 months old. Brandi is an amazing mom (passionate about horses) who has never wanted to push horses on Haylie and wanting her to choose her interest in horses. We share our passion with horses & Parelli, our desire for never ending self improvement, and the joy of sharing our dearest partners setting everyone up for success.
@inspiredequestrian From Brandi...Haylie has only NOT ridden for 2 weeks - the one before and after she was born. She has always expressed a great desire to learn & grow with horses. I know with my daughter, that allowing her to do EVERYTHING to her ability is what has really kept her interested in horses - brushing, haltering, leading, bathing, etc. I never place her in dangerous situations, however anything that she can do or help with I allow. Most kids her age want to "Do it themselves"
@inspiredequestrian From Brandi con't...If I told her no on everything, then she would have no desire to learn or ride. Also don't think because they are young they don't understand. Kids process amazing well & fast. They understand way more than adults give them credit for. I explain everything to her as if I was instructing an adult. Kids get it!! My best advice is don't push. Let your child set the pace, keep it SAFE and make learning fun! Best wishes on your journey from all 4 of us!!
Haylie, your daddy in Iraq has to be one of the proudest daddies on earth. As of today, I see you have 23,813 'hits' on your little film clip, which is very, very cute, but also very, very impressive. My guess is that by the end of the month you are going to be on Oprah, Ellen or the View or some place like that! Maybe even the Pat Parelli TV show!! We LOVED it kid!! I'm going to send this to everyone I know!
Thank you all for your wonderful comments. As we are so proud to share what can really be possible with the Parelli program when we put the relationships first and take the time it takes. It is wonderful to be a part a community (Parelli) that understands the warmth and inspiration that true horsemanship brings into our hearts. As Pat says, "Foundation First" - for both two legged and four.
I'm so glad to finally see a smart mom and put a helmet on her kids head.. great job!!.. your little girl is adorable!! how old 3-4.. loved the video.. and again great job.
If anyone ever doubted that some horses take their jobs very seriously, just look how Whisper takes care of his precious cargo. That horse is worth his weight in gold, platinum and jewels!!!
that horse is beautiful inside and out <3 that little girl is adorable and such a good rider for her age. wow. can't wait to see what she can do when she gets older!
Cheryl!!! YEA!!!! So happy to see you featured in my Parelli email! I was also blown away by Whisper and Hallie in your vid on the indoor trail course. Whisper is Dodger's role model. Now if I can just "focus on the pedestal..." ;-) Big hug, Michelle
Beautiful job communicating with her horse. Great evidence that Parelli works. My 3 year old grandson has ridden my 2 1/2 year old Tennessee Walker, who hasn't had much training. I can't wait for my son to see this!
This is just precious! Love :)
