Yes - they DO look very much like New Order - take the bassist out and it could well be them up there. But then what did we expect, they are a Factory band after all...and despite being forever in NO's shadow, they did bring out a modest handful of decent records....it wasn't until they left Factory and signed to Sarah records in the late 80s that they changed their sound. A great, criminally underrated and much missed band!
This band is great. I'm wondering why they aren't talked about at all. When it comes to new wave 80's, we always just hear about the Joy Division, Siouxsie & the Banshees, or The Cure. But never about The Wake. I don't understand why, because they were just as good as those other bands.
@villavillacola1111@villavillacola1111 well, recognition has finally come. the label captured tracks has just reissued a couple of their first 7", and there is a lovely 7" with a couple of cover versions by wild nothing and beach fossils.
Scottish post-punk classic!!!

Just like New Order circa 1981, same lineup too with Gillian on synths but saying that they are FUCKING AMAZING IN THEIR OWN RIGHT!

beautiful sound: joyous not at all depressing, and thrilling harmonica.
