  • One of the most distracting sound tracks I've ever heard.

Why on earth would any use drum rolls as background music when they giving people instructions about something?

  • ok so im a noob but can you use led lights?

  • Background music is very distracting

  • Hello, thank you for this information. But I suffer from a lack of materials

-Is it necessary to be a white light?

  • Absolutely brilliant! Many thanks indeed!

  • I realllly want a ipod touch for christmas .... :(

  • this was SO helpful!!! thanks!!!

  • which lights do you recommend for make shortfilms? (I'm just starting in this world) tnanks!

  • very informative :) im looking into blue screens and green screens

  • This was very informative. I found this video from google and so glad I did. Thank you for the information. I feel much better about doing my first shoot with posed models and scuh. Cheers!

  • This was very helpful, even though I'm not sure what kind to get, because I do both photography and video, haha.

  • O.o

  • Aweosme to see ya in the TubeTape studio and going over all the different types of lights.

  • Great!

  • This guy seems like a con artist. :/

  • Hey mark I ordered a 10x20 green screen and Sony HDR-CX550V 64GB High Definition Handycam Camcorder I was wondering if Sony HDR-CX550V is any good for Chroma keying?

  • the drum beat is awesome keeps you awake i love it, and the video OMG i learned a lot!!!

  • AWSOME!!!!!!

  • Man you're awesome!

  • ya ya

  • SUBSCRIBED

  • comment

  • Ill just use my desk lamp

  • Thank you for the helpful words. I brought myself some working-light, for a video i have to shot for my school and also to personal use. 5/5

  • do you know were I get cool motion Titels

  • Cool!

  • Thanks for the Video! i am going to be buying worklighting for a music video. is the watt a huge factor? i dont know if i should get a 150w or a 500w? could you advice?

  • I'm soon gonna film a music video that is set outside in daylight, and I want really good lighting for it. Which kind of light kit would you suggest I get?

  • got the mx series lights There great. I use a rosco full blue gel to take it to 5600 when i need to.

  • Whahahahahaha "if you do video, if you do photography, you know that light is essential for lighting your subject"...

No really? So THAT's what i did wrong all this time!! XD

  • Very nice!!

  • Thanks for the great explanation!

  • love the opening

  • heh i used a 15000 wat spot light one time for a light.

  • PICK ME I WANNA WIN!!!

  • contest

  • dude i like your vids

  • Halogen!

  • Sry meant to rate 5

  • Florsen lights are VERy good! Buy them from another person. because thats cheaper. :)

  • forgot to mention prices, not all of us are rich

  • I'm not sure how much real-life experience the presenter has because he only talks about obvious cons of those light kits and not the ones that come out with actual use.

    For instance:

-- the fan light will kill your sound in any situation where you need good audio, so unless you are shooting a music video...

-- in the second lighting kit (air cooled) the 1000w bulb is too powerful (if you used the light more then a few times you would know that the 1k bulb burns out the connections

  • great video!

  • awesome!!

  • really good advice going to start chroma key pohotography and need lights

  • I want an ipod :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

  • wow I learned a lot today about the types of lights, thanks man!!

  • LED's? You can get them for studios and the are VERY efficient.

  • Hey Mark, I think you actually need to stop saying actually so much. Actually.

  • Thanks, its really helped I will probs buy a pro light kit

  • ... Get a couple of 800 watt redheads and have diffusion and full blue gels on hand. Get a 4x55watt florescent tube light w barndoors, imported from korea of course, great for achieving a big highlight in the eye (In my opinion load it with daylight tubes).

These three lights are good for most situations. Quick, easy and compact.

  • Seems more like an info-mercial than a help video. On the video side of things those big soft boxs are only really practical in a studo environment. because there are no barn doors on em you are left with too much spill... a big soft wash that will overlight and eliminate mood in a dramatic setting. That umbrella thing... well never seen one of those on a film shoot. Flood lights well maybe as a backup kit....

  • I completely agree with you about the work lights, They are such a flood light, I usually diffuse it with a piece of posterboard.

  • tricks sounds tricky

  • That was very helpful. Exactly what I was looking for.

  • Which light is best for green screens??????

  • wow that really helped

  • i wish i had more space your so lucky

  • Thanks a lot for the tutorial :)

  • cool video

  • Mark I love your videos, they are so, so ,so helpful =)

  • you rock markapsolon also i bought that camcorder you preffered a long time ago

  • Hmmm i might be getting some worklights soon, so im excited!

  • Found the right light kit for me :D

  • you are very helpful with the videos you make! :D

  • i don't hove lights like that

  • Found a 130 WATT FLUORESCENT 6OO WATT EQUIVALENT TELESCOPING 2 IN 1 TWIN HEAD WORKLIGHT from Designers Edge,Inc

    only thing find a dealer

  • HMI's also require a ballast and are rich in UV, which has to be filtered.

Btw, what were you lighting the green screen with?

  • how do i eliminate teh edge pixelation?

  • Very informative and interesting video. I see that you did a budget video camera video in the last year. Now, technology is very fickle and changes very often. In a timespan of one year, its a pretty radical change.

Could you make a video recommending or reviewing camcorders for those of us who are on a budget, and want to purchase a a camcorder?

    Thanks. Love the vids.

  • Very helpful, but ... no mention of LED lights? Would love to hear about the pros and cons of those.

  • Hey Mark, Do you use VisionLab OR Sony vegas?

  • lol how do u wanna key out the background if its white or black? if its black, things like ur eyes and hair will get keyed out, or skin if ur black. if its white, ur skin will get keyed out along with the bg if ur white, or ur hair if ur blonde.

the reason for the green/blue screens is because its the two colors furthest away from skin color

  • That drum beat in the background is over execsive and bothersome.

  • I agree a bit I should have pushed it down some more in the NLE

  • if u get single worklights and an old tall tripod can get good height an control

  • yeah its pretty good but if I had a chose I think all of us would go for a pro light :)

  • man your good

  • thanks dude :)

  • you rock but not like tishon24

  • so is that good or bad..lol

  • Hi. Yeah I have 1 question.. I'm gonna make my first vid w/the croma key nd i waz wondering how you make ur intro thx alot bye

  • I use vegas pro 8

  • Non of you are going to believe what Mark did today but you'll probably like it once he shows you, just wait. It was very manly macho stuff, I was amazed, next I'm gonna see if he can work on my car :) who knew he had such talent, lol.

  • THANX MARK!!!

  • I think the cool flow light is a great addition to regular lighting, I can't wait to try it!

  • There are a lot of choices when it comes to light kits. Thanks for helping clear some of the mystery

  • This is great, it's really interesting. I was wondering what kind of lighting to get and this made it so much clearer. Thanks!!

  • The greatest Ad Campaigns of the last century: "A Diamond is forever" (Debeers), "Santa Claus" (Macy's I think), and Now the Great and Terrible Mark Apsolon will take over the world with his Mind controlling Light Boxes, ha ha ha (Evil Laugh). With his Queen Juno he will force people to Create wonderful Art and Videos against their will, lol, Sarcasm

  • Hi Mark,

Thanks for the information. I just got a copy of your training DVD and it's really helped me.

    Keep up the good work

  • Sheep.

This is an ad for tubetape.

    An AD.

This is not a regular Joe posting helpful videos on how to make you a better videowhatever.

    This is ADVERTISING.

They are using YouTube for a nice free ad campaign.

They even have people to reply to posts here under the guise of 'markapsolon', but the whole thing is an advert for tubetape.

  • Do you see all those google ads on the side ?

This is a site called YouTube that's owned by Google. Google is only interested in making money not creating a forum for freedom of expression. How ignorant are you ?

If Mark can help people and himself then good for him.

BTW.. Osama Bin Laden bombed the US. Not Iraq. Wake up you idiot

  • So my husband is an imaginary Ad campaign, so what happens to my family if they find out just how crazy I really am, lol. Well he sure is a great hallucination, he makes dinner plays games with the kids and sometimes he even finds time to teach people stuff on you tube. Mark is not owned and does not own tube tape, but alot of people are happy that they've been given free stuff by them.

  • Do you prefer cool flo lights or quartz with fan cooling ? It seems like some cool flo's are available in 3200k too

  • Yeah that one good thing about the Flo lights is the spectrum ranges. With power prices being as pricey as they are it might be a good idea but I'm more of a halogen light person because of the brightness :)

  • Hey Mark, I bought the two thousand watt light kit from Tubetape, and the fans are going to be a problem. I am going to be videoing actors doing monologues and that dam fan is running. What are your thoughts about disconnecting the fan, because I like the light but the fan is going to be an issue

  • I have not taken apart the lights yet but its probably just a wire to remove it. I might experiment with it because the light from them is nice but the fans can be an issue

  • lol ok :)

  • Hey Mark cool vid! I just got my DVDs from the competition today and they are great! Thanks!

  • glad you liked them :)

  • ISEE ‹(•¿•)›H8ATERS was here

  • whats up ? :)

  • same old shit just differnt day.. lol

  • I hear you :)

  • Jerry just stay away from britek lights..lol :) I had bad problems with that company

  • I would rate the fan noise at around a 1 or 2. (thats at 4 to 5 feet from the camera. it get better the farther you are away) Its really hard to hear. Most people would not even hear it on play back but I use to do only sound so it hear it..lol its really not that bad :)

  • That's true. The QL series will actually shut down if they become too hot. The MX series should be shut off and allowed to cool down when not in use.

  • thanks. Cool.

  • when will the video for the strobe lights be put up? i'd really like to see that!

  • It will be online soon :)

  • efficient is part of the flexibility part of it. Its nice to have a pro kit just because its easy to put up, use, and its portable.

  • Excellent info! I learn so much when I see your well directed and informative videos! Thanks again!

  • thanks Monty!!

  • Hey Mark, have you tried the Westcott Spiderlite TD5? I had them in my mind. Since I'm a lot more into photography i was thinking they are a nice investment.

  • They look nice but so far I've never tried them. I try to stick with the halgoen lights but the cool flos were really fun to play with

  • Great stuff sir. One solution for making those halogen work lamps into spotlights is to create a tinfoil tunnel to put over the front of the lamp. Tinfoil is cheap, reflective, and completely opaque. Chickenwire could support the tinfoil. I did this with a regular lawn floodlight and it works well.

  • :O)

  • great info

  • thanks :)

  • Thanks Mark

  • Great info Mark..I use 2 by 500 watt worklights mate...mainly because my cam is shit anyhow..lol...I use it direct in sunlight...and reflected off the ceiling for night shoots...cost me $29...lol....good vid...I,ve never seen those quad flouro lights before...

  • yeah a lot of people are using the cool flow lights. I prefer the MX and QL-1000 to any of them because it give you a pro look and I need it for a quick setup

  • Shame on you for making me enjoy learning.

  • I will say 5 hail Marys and remember that in Church tomorrow..lol :) j/king Glad you liked the video

  • Another Great Video Mark!

  • Thanks!

  • i like him but i think you're trying to be perfect when its not possible. Why not do a CHEAP tutorial for those of us on a budget

  • Actually I did show how to create a light kit for under 100 in my training DVD called "Lighting Made Simple". Its cheap and you should take a look at it

  • Great video.

  • Is that intro made with Vegas?

  • I think it's Final Cut.

  • yup it was vegas pro 8

  • DPwyv.

  • whats up David! :)

  • Informative video Mark. I like the Pixar imitation at 2:15 LOL :) Great video!

  • lol I did not think about pixar and the lamp ..lol :)

  • good tutorial! You're good at this kind of stuff

  • thanks :)

  • See them big ol yellow work lights behind Mark- that's what I use. They costed me around fourty bucks at my local hardware store. They also suck! Especially in the summer- I feel like I'm filming in a tanning bed! Fat guys can't handle heat! I get sweaty in places most of you skinny people don't even have. So there I am sweating like a pig for my stupid videos! Semi portable- yeah, as portable as a Semi Truck!

  • All lights get hot really hot, mark sweats like crazy, but then he does anyway, ask him what happened to my futon a few years back, lol.

  • It the olde fateful of lights :)

  • Yeah if I time my videos just right and point the lights in the right direction I can get a couple over hard fried eggs at the end of a shoot!

  • HAHAH I know the feeling man! 10 minutes and I have to take a break as it just gets to hot!!

  • oh yeah they get hot..lol

  • this better not be in the dvd....lol

  • Do you want your money back :)

  • money was an option????

no thats o.k. if I had the money I would have bought them anyways...lol

  • Its not.. This is a real good plus for it :)

  • oh good !

I think bluwhodesign hates me. lol

  • If I hated you, you'd know it, lmao. My sarcasm is obviously often misunderstood (even with the smiley faces) and my YT educate is far from perfect. I suppose I'll never be cool on you tube.

  • I understand I'm a NewYorker....lol

  • Yeah, I'm South Philly.

  • blu ..lol :)

  • oh its not in the dvds. :)

  • You must have been reading my mind. I constantly think about when will I purchase a lighting kit and sometime go to your channel to see your previous videos about lighting. Just about 20 mins ago I thought about it again and went on youtube and seen you have this new video.

    Thanks!

  • I'm glad I helped out :)

  • i was just wondering how loud is the fan exactly. like if i was shooting a scene with only two people having a conversation would it be a problem?

  • These lights are on in the background while filming. You can't hear them while Mark is talking. He is using a boom mic.

  • I love mark but he's a total perfectionist. I don't think they make much noise at all.

  • I just bought the light kit and they do make some noise, but I also had my camera right next to the light. I am going to be shooting monologues and this might be a problem. I'm think I may need to mic the actor.

  • probably not for the QL-1000. It really depends on two factors. How close the lights are to the subjects and if you use background music. If you are shooting a very quiet film scene I would go with air cooled lights like the MX series

  • im guessing thats at tubetape's studio

  • nope not theirs but I'm sure they would love to have it :)

  • wow cool new set. Based on the adio and the echo it sounded like a pretty big room. where is that? ur garage?
