@hylogibbon Pauls voice is very powerful, not here though. Check out some good videos of Paul. When I saw Paul is range and high notes were incredible, so says most others who have attended his concerts, especially the ones of few years back. I think Paul here looks very tired due to demanding circumstances.
@auntyflorrieunclesam His vibrato and control his very beautiful. He can control the ends of the note so beautifully ,hard to explain the technicality but a thing only which very brilliant Eastern Classical and Western Classical singers can do.
240p concerns the video quality, not the sound. However, when the video is shit, very often the sound aswell is shit. But you can have good sound and shitty video.
@angerock49 Actually on youtube it determines the level of compression as well, it's a bit of a misnomer here. So 240p videos are the most compressed, which can heavily effect the sound, while 1080p are usually uncompressed.
@UnholyWarcry Yes of course there's still a second compression. Are you sure 1080p videos aren't compressed ? It seemed to me they weren't full HD like on vimeo.
@angerock49 I'm not positive. Could just be that the uploader of the 1080p video in question is uploading uncompressed video that isn't HD quality in the first place though.
To date I put little effort to appreciate opera for entertainment and as an art. "Paul Potts" Has offered to me the joy of it. If he comes to Boston, I'm In.
i enjoy florez as well, very beautiful and effortless.imho, tenors should not really be compared at all, but rather should be individually enjoyed each in his own right.i dont know about those high c's,never heard it,but i have no reason to doubt it.im sure his voice has grown as well since that performance.my comment was merely about that single performance.i'll have to listen to some more recent performances.hope he sings some mozart opera arias!would surely suit his sound and temperament.Thx!
lovely light singing, until the high c at the end, seemingly specially written for this performance.i prefer mr potts in this kind of repertoire(which is NOT opera)to his nessun dorma.he has a lovely light lyric tenor voice, and a great personal story, etc.i would love to hear him sing some britten songs, for example,or some mozart,if he simply must sing opera. but comparisons with pavarotti are, imho, inaccurate.
@thegnomeidentity I read that he di about 12 high Cs in one concert perfectly last year, prefer Mr. Potts in the powerful arias which is opera. Pauls personal story was not known until long after the first audition. Paul is a great tenor in his own right, he shouldn't be compared, but seeing as you are he now can belt this aria off up there with the best. Oh and I prefer the voice of Paul and a few others like Florez who is also a gentle lyric teenor voice.
@thegnomeidentity Sorry, when I said aria I meant Nessun Dorma not this. Ave Maria I prefer with a woman or young boys voice, not for Paul, the powerful arias Paul sings amazingly. Paul sang Ave Maria without amplification in a large church, thats the best version of this he has sang, and yes he simply should sing opera, he has the powerful voice for it, and like few pro. opera singers his voice does not grate down on you.
fritz5108 please get rid of this video, its attracting all the critics. Why do they come on here when there are so many great videos of Pauls voice out ther. Paul Potts voice has great strength, from where he has come and from where it is today. People that like to detract from Paul Potts want to go to one of his concerts, more than 450/500 worldwide. There are some great videos of O Holy Night by Paul out there, but you know the one the critics find is the one where he is knackered.
@monsoonseasonaugust A video is posted which leaves it open for members to post their opinion ( which I might add they are perfectly entitled to do so ).
Why shouldn't critcs come on here and post their opinion ?? I did spend a sizeable amount of money to purchase two tickets to see Pavarotti in concert. I would never spend anything near that amount to see Paul Potts, he has a nice voice and it's wonderful that he is fulfilling his dream but he's no Pavarotti in any form !
@jeanmunn As long as there your opinions, do look up
Paul Potts in jeon Ju S.Korea Nessun Dorma, and a friend from UK tells me that you have been coming on to detract from Paul Potts few years in the past.
You are entitled to your opinions, and your opinion is to criticise a singer who has improved every year since BGT. This is not a good video, and Paul did say there was technical troubles with the orchestra. Now you have made your opinions of Paul known, why not move on to some singer you like
@thornbirds26 Rather obvious you just " don't get it " who is knocking Paul Potts ? and what does your comment mean ??? " coming on to detract from Paul Potts few years in the past " what the fuck does that mean ????
The whole point is plain and simple,,he was compared to Pavarotti,,,and it is simple,,as good a voice as Potts has he will never now or any other time be in the same league as Pavarotti, if you think so then so be it,,who fucking cares !! Merry Christmas.
I love this guy! He's one of my inspirations.....im deaf in one ear and yet hearing myself, it surprises how well i can sing some opera....great job, i hope to be half as good as him one day

ahhh this is beautiful! the only thing I feel bad about is that last note he kinda cracked/couldn't really hit it completely :/ But hey, that's hard as hell to begin with. He is an amazing singer!
@jmljr93 I re-played the very last because I, too, thought I heard a "crack" in his voice. And then it seemed like it was instrumentation and thought I was, perhaps, wrong. I listen with Bose headphones because my hearing isn't as good as it once was. And, yes, it looks like his front teeth are str8ened. Making his physical appearance better doesn't in any way detract from his incredible voice and his considerable humility. And to think that he was bullied as a little boy.
I have never been a fan of Opera until I heard Paul Potts. His voice stirs my emotions to a point where my eyes swell with tears of joy. I have never experience this kind of reaction with anyone’s music. Paul Potts is a gift of our time.
He is going to be the next Luciano Pavarotti! He is just amazing with his ability to sing the most difficult music which is opera! I love to listen to it! It just fills a persons soul as you hear it, and it is different each time you hear the same piece. Words just can't explain it properly.
@usrob1 What a great talent Paul has,,a very fine voice indeed but I really must beg to differ with your opinion. As fine a voice that he has he will never be in the same class as Pavarotti, I'm not knocking Paul Potts just merely stating what is obvious to many who enjoy classical music.
A fine voice that people love,,and I enjoy his music but no comparison whatsoever to the late Pavarotti.
@jeanmunn Sorry I have to differ with your opinion also, and yes you are knocking PaulPotts and not stating the obvious. This is not a good version of Pauls voice, tired and he did come on and say there was technical issues with the acoustics.
2 years after here Paul Potts was recorded with a member of audience in one of his concerts, search
Paul Potts in Jeon Ju S.Korea Nessun Dorma
and some later. that is as good as it gets.
Many great videos of Pauls have been blocked and they keep this
@thornbirds26 Well I respect your opinion, but from a technical point of view Paul Potts is not even close to being a great tenor like Pavarotti,,,and I do mean not even close.
@jeanmunn Paul Potts is now technically very good, not on here though. Paul is a great tenor, seen him in concert, is he as good now as Pavarotti, I think so. I expect Pavarotti was along way of his best to start with. Paul it is written has done 500 concerts worldwide, that is proof of big talent. Why have you chosen this video,? I expect because it gives you more room to detract from him. Your opinionS are not the opinions of most who have heard Paul live, even the opera critics now quieter.
@auntyflorrieunclesam Okay,,,you are entitled to your opinion but I must honestly say that I would find something radically wrong with any music critic that would compare Paul Potts to Pavarotti in his prime,,,,utter nonsense.
Again I will say Potts has a good voice but he has no chance in Hell of obtaining the part of Rodolfo and singing Che Gelida Manina at La Scala or anywhere else for that matter, he's not in the same league as the great tenors,,my opinion.
@jeanmunn T do opera pro. one usually has to study it for years, but do remember the crossover concerts and football matches, olympics is where Pavarott i recieved his biggest audiences. I can see you resent Paul Potts, but if you have not seen him perform live of late then you would not appreciate his talent. If you like Pavarotti the best then good for, but please as regards Pauls voice he deserves great respect and his voice is one of the most beautiful, my opinion.
@monsoonseasonaugust Yes of course,,Pavarotti took it to the people,,,people wordwide had the opportunity to see and listen to him ( like I did in Vancouver a few years ago ).
And I will say this regarding your comments,,I do not, under any circumstances resent ( as you stated ) Potts, I'll say again he has a good voice,,that's where it ends my friend.
It's wonderful that he has acheived his dream and he deserves the success he has acheived.
@jeanmunn You are compare apples to oranges. Your point taken, I do believe that the man deserves some respect. We all know that Pavarotti is a legend, again there is no comparison. Be blessed.
@bxborijew agreed. no one can be equal to luciano pavarotti. i will admit this guy is GOOD,, would have been sweet if pavarotti was still amongst us so he could listen to this, and render his opinion
Paul Potts Jeon Ju Nessun Dorma recorded mobile by audience member.
Oh and Pavarotti has heard Paul Potts sing. When Paul about 10yrs back began to sing amatuer he went to Italy and was selected to sing for Pavarotti in a 1 hr masterclass. Out of several singers Pavarotti singled out Paul to sing.
As the comment below, why this video which Paul himself come on to say there was a technical fault. Look up Paul Potts Prague Granada 3yrs back
@usrob1 Sorry but to compare Luciano Pavarotti to this guy is such an insult to Pavarotti... please take that back.. You obviously have absolutely no idea what kind of class and level Pavarotti is on...
@usrob1 YOu may not like to hear that but there are different styles of music which are as difficult to play/sing as opera... Ok not to sing, but to play D
@usrob1 I beg to differ. Mr Potts is certainly talented for as little training as he has had. However, even if his technique, diction and phrasing were equal to Pavarotti, which they definitely are not at this point, the voice is no where near to Pava's. Mr Potts is a high tenor, not a lyric/spinto as was Pava. Mr Potts also lacks the vibrato, the breath support, the resonance and projection of Pava. Tho Mr Potts has carved himself a nice career out of his time on BGT, I don't see him
@appeace1 becoming world renown across all spectrums of music as was Pava. There will never be, in my humble opinion, another Luciano Pavarotti, not the man, not the voice, and certainly not the legend. As Pava himself said, "there will never be "another". There will be a or b or c or d--but not another". I hope Mr Potts will enjoy a long career and I know his fans enjoy his music--but the next Pavarotti?? I doubt it.
@cges76 Totally agree with you. His diction and delivery is very good, but there's a certain "omph" that's missing. Like at the end his voice slightly cracked. I'm thinking it's more of a mental thing, maybe his confidence needs a boost? Maybe another song could hint at his ability to carry more weight or richer sound?

being a 19 year old American I dont ever get to wittiness or hear music this spectacular in the states, especially on a talent show. This man might think he was givin a gift to make his life better when in reality he was the gift to all of us. his voice is phenomenal especially if he had no formal training then that is just something very amazing to see. from across the pond I give Britain my thanks for showing me what real talent looks like.
@assanderyeah yes, Pavarotti is brilliant. So is Paul Potts... both have an outstanding talent that we can all enjoy, a gift that can take us to a place of happiness. I hope your comment isn't a prelude to an insult to Potts. That is unworthy of anyone: you don't need to disparage him to feel better about yourself.
I tweeted below that Paul said there was technical problems here.
Also below listen to one of the best versions of Nessun Dorma out there,
Paul Potts in Jeon Ju S. Korea Nessun Dorma.
Because there are going on 2 million people who have seen Paul Potts live you are going to get most who will defend him against any one who comes on to say as you.
@thornbirds26 If you compare him to Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti or many more stars of the opera, Paul Potts is not sensational at all. Watch 4:20 to 4:26 for example. His voice splutters at 4:23 and then completely dies at 4:25. He is not absolutely catastrophic, but most of his success can be traced back to his marketable life story.
I know Paul here was tired and he did say there was technical problems.
Again I say look up
Paul Potts in Jeon Ju. S.Korea singing Nessun Dorma.
Yes when I heard him sing arias he was seansational, not saying he is better than Pavarotti who was professional for over 40yrs, but Pauls voice is stronger than Bocellis.
Please do look up as above, also his latest Nessun Dorma in S. Korea, his version of
he dont need to pretend a guy with his voice broke aint going sing this good unless pavorotti but listen to his nessun dorma u fool and if u want to talk about wrecking songs listen to beyonce ave maria thats the worst ever made
@Allzumenschliches44 He isn't pretending, you stupid, ignorant piece of shit. He is an opera singer, and a great one to be exact. So take your shitty life and end it, for the sake of all mankind. Thank you.
@bznm1xxed People calling others ignorants even though they obviously have no idea of what they are talking about are even worse. What the fuck do you know about opera to make such a statement? Ever heard of Caruso, Björling, Di Stefano, Corelli or Fleta? No? Then shut up and go watch your talent show bullshit!
@Allzumenschliches44 "but fat, ugly suckers who pretend to be opera singers" What the fuck is wrong with you? I am not an opera expert, which you are apparently, and even though he was discovered on a talent show doesn't make him a worse singer. Now, I have more important things to do with my time than arguing with a fat no-lifer, trolling on the youtubes, which interests are beautiful and fit opera singers, not discovered on a talent show. Good bye.
I think Paul Pott has a exceptional voice, but the intonation at this AVE MARIA is so bad (always too deep), that I can enjoy. Also he is always late to enter the phrase. It's apity. The piece is so beautiful and perfect.

Why is this guy famous?
His singing is average and thats an optimistic guess.
But public just has no clue about music thats not pop.

He is going to be the next Luciano Pavarotti! He is just amazing with his ability to sing the most difficult music which is opera! I love to listen to it! It just fills a persons soul as you hear it, and it is different each time you hear the same piece. Words just can't explain it properly.
usrob1 2 months ago 36
@usrob1 next pavarotti eh? either youre drunk or know nothing about opera. gonna go with the latter.
14AgentOrange 2 months ago
@usrob1 not even close but he is amazing !
cek128 2 months ago
@usrob1 What a great talent Paul has,,a very fine voice indeed but I really must beg to differ with your opinion. As fine a voice that he has he will never be in the same class as Pavarotti, I'm not knocking Paul Potts just merely stating what is obvious to many who enjoy classical music.
A fine voice that people love,,and I enjoy his music but no comparison whatsoever to the late Pavarotti.
jeanmunn 1 month ago
@jeanmunn Sorry I have to differ with your opinion also, and yes you are knocking PaulPotts and not stating the obvious. This is not a good version of Pauls voice, tired and he did come on and say there was technical issues with the acoustics.
2 years after here Paul Potts was recorded with a member of audience in one of his concerts, search
Paul Potts in Jeon Ju S.Korea Nessun Dorma
and some later. that is as good as it gets.
Many great videos of Pauls have been blocked and they keep this
thornbirds26 1 month ago
@thornbirds26 Well I respect your opinion, but from a technical point of view Paul Potts is not even close to being a great tenor like Pavarotti,,,and I do mean not even close.
jeanmunn 1 month ago
@jeanmunn Paul Potts is now technically very good, not on here though. Paul is a great tenor, seen him in concert, is he as good now as Pavarotti, I think so. I expect Pavarotti was along way of his best to start with. Paul it is written has done 500 concerts worldwide, that is proof of big talent. Why have you chosen this video,? I expect because it gives you more room to detract from him. Your opinionS are not the opinions of most who have heard Paul live, even the opera critics now quieter.
auntyflorrieunclesam 1 month ago
@auntyflorrieunclesam Okay,,,you are entitled to your opinion but I must honestly say that I would find something radically wrong with any music critic that would compare Paul Potts to Pavarotti in his prime,,,,utter nonsense.
Again I will say Potts has a good voice but he has no chance in Hell of obtaining the part of Rodolfo and singing Che Gelida Manina at La Scala or anywhere else for that matter, he's not in the same league as the great tenors,,my opinion.
jeanmunn 1 month ago

He's just not a world class tenor

@bxborijew agreed. no one can be equal to luciano pavarotti. i will admit this guy is GOOD,, would have been sweet if pavarotti was still amongst us so he could listen to this, and render his opinion
yamahonkawazuki 1 month ago
@yamahonkawazuki Sick of saying this but look up
Paul Potts Jeon Ju Nessun Dorma recorded mobile by audience member.

I doubt it.
appeace1 1 month ago
@usrob1 Mr Potts lacks the strenght that Pava had. While he's talented I don't think we can compare him to Pava. Pava was one of a kind.
cges76 1 month ago

MrJamesey1000 3 months ago
@MrJamesey1000 No. Paul Potts is sensational.
I tweeted below that Paul said there was technical problems here.
Also below listen to one of the best versions of Nessun Dorma out there,
Paul Potts in Jeon Ju S. Korea Nessun Dorma.
Because there are going on 2 million people who have seen Paul Potts live you are going to get most who will defend him against any one who comes on to say as you.
thornbirds26 3 months ago
@thornbirds26 If you compare him to Andrea Bocelli, Luciano Pavarotti or many more stars of the opera, Paul Potts is not sensational at all. Watch 4:20 to 4:26 for example. His voice splutters at 4:23 and then completely dies at 4:25. He is not absolutely catastrophic, but most of his success can be traced back to his marketable life story.
tjhghghjh 3 months ago
@tjhghghjh You critics always go for the least.
Korea, his version of
La Prima Volta on BGT semi + oberhausen.

Mr. Potts needs to slow down the tempo. He needs to get himself a good producer for this song and listen to him.

Allzumenschliches44 3 months ago
@Allzumenschliches44 "but fat, ugly suckers who pretend to be opera singers" What the fuck is wrong with you? I am not an opera expert, which you are apparently, and even though he was discovered on a talent show doesn't make him a worse singer. Now, I have more important things to do with my time than arguing with a fat no-lifer, trolling on the youtubes, which interests are beautiful and fit opera singers, not discovered on a talent show. Good bye.
bznm1xxed 3 months ago
@Allzumenschliches44 You should hear Paul Potts sing
Paul Potts in Jeon Ju S.Korea Nessun Dorma, 2nd to none.
Paul himself said there were technical problems here, why they show this and such brilliant works are out there of his God knows.
Pauls has done very good versions of this, tired and out of sorts here.
thornbirds26 3 months ago
I think Paul Pott has a exceptional voice, but the intonation at this AVE MARIA is so bad (always too deep), that I can enjoy. Also he is always late to enter the phrase. It's apity. The piece is so beautiful and perfect.
