On a music note I stopped growing in the late 80's and I'm 50 now . Thanks to the internet and the people that upload music to you tube i get to relive the years I hold closest to my heart . Sometimes especially listening to Karen I get quite choked up and that's okay !
@MrAGBrito1 With respect your missing something. KC is has not really gone as long as we remember her. In our family room we've got a signed photograph of her so that she is part of our everdays. Not sure if you could get hold of a signed one but how about putting a pic on your wall. You might find it helps. Night night KC
A great and unique voice,i have not heard anyone to really compare, taken away so young it is a great tragedy as we could have had more of her superb talent.
This footage of Karen and Richard was shot at the Huntington Botanical Gardens in Pasadena, CA. when I was in high school. I think of this video a lot-especially every time I walk up to the red Japanese "Moon Bridge" in the Japanese Garden...This was a huge hit for The Carpenters in 1975-I remember running out and buying an "8-Track" tape with this song on it...
There is no singing voice that will ever match Karen Carpenters.....
@wrbegin And I still have hundreds of 8-track tapes, players, plus my dial telephones, reel-type tape recorders and vacuum-tube radios...LOL! My uncle was a nuclear physicist in Washington when I was growing up-he worked for "IDA"-Uncle Phil introduced me to Bill Lear the summer of 1970. I remember not caring about Bill Lear's airplane designs-I was impressed that he created the 8-track tape!
@wrbegin I drove out to the Carpenter Family crypt on Christmas Day-placed flowers at the front doors. I didn't get out there until about 3 PM-there were a lot of people there paying their respects to Karen. I sat there myself for about 30 minutes-hard to believe it's been 28 years since she died. I was driving home for the weekend from college in 1983 when I heard about Karen's death on my car radio. I was driving my blue 1972 Cadillac Eldorado convertible. Couldn't believe it!!!
@ktypestar I think your respect for Karen speaks volumes for class. I can't envision (25 years +) after Lady Gaga's passing, people waiting to pay their respects. Humility and class (which Karen had both) go a long way.
@greenwich1754 Thanks for your compliment. Karen definitelyy made an impression on me growing up-Mom bought Carpenter's 8-tracks-their music was always in our house. Carpenters songs were ones I could actually understand the lyrics. (Thank you, Richard!) And Karens' voice...That one-of-a-kind, beautiful haunting voice.. I thought it was interesting Christmas Day on the drive up to Westlake Village, I kept scanning the radio-always seemed to find one of Karen's songs playing...
@wrbegin You know, even though I try to keep a working knowledge of music, about all I really "listen to" are the Carpenters...Everything else is mostly noise to me on the radio...LOL!
@wrbegin Hi...I should get into music, but with so many things going on all the time in my life (I tend to be a really bad workaholic) I'm always busy....I tend to remember stuff from when I was growing up, as it has stuck with me throughout the decades-even though I may have not heard a certain song since the last century... :^)
@ktypestar I'm a workaholic too - you mention work, and I get drunk! Seriously, I'm sure you're productive - don't rush yourself to the grave, it will get here soon enough. I just lost my dad, as well as three other people in my life this past year - enjoy those those with whom you are blessed. Life is way too fleeting. No man is an island (if he was, he'd have to lose some serious weight!).
Rainy days and mondays and Ill say goodbye to love the best!! well those and a few others lol!! so haunting so magical see you on the other side Karen. sing me just one song and Ill melt into the universe!!
ive been a rock singer since the 70s but I never realised how fantastic Karens voice was it sticks in my mind and I sleep with it playing over and over, what a loss so young and talented and richard who was an awesome brother who stuck by his sis and cherished her ..she makes me cry thanks to richard for giving her to us with his fab mixing and not forgetting her drumming!! you two are magic forever!!! Kevin Emmett chch nz
I don't know why, when ever Carpenter release the new classic soungs track, but I still keep buying it to collect, same old songs, nothing change, haha.......They're my only one favorite singers ever.......child-teen-man...till now..................no change!
What a treasure of a singer Karen Carpenter was and will always be. She has the same birthday as my Mom, March 2nd and would be 62 years old next year( not old at all). My favorite singer of all time.
Inesquecível Carpenters! Voz maravilhosa da Karen! Nunca me esqueço do Mr. Fisk ensinando ingles com música dos Carpenters porque "a pronúncia da Karen era ótima!". Concordo plenamente!
@gforce4all Many people visit this site to remember Karen for her wonderful songs and amazing voice. You decide to come in and be a Jerk-off. WTF - Stay away from here - you and your comments are not welcome.
@paztimemusic I did hear the Carpenters live once, but the sad part about it for me is that I was too young to really remember much about it and appreciate it (although, I've always loved the Carpenters' sound). The fifth-grade class at the school I attended won a competition and did the backup for "Sing." The only part I really remember of the concert itself, though, was that Richard did a tribute to Spike Jones – and I didn't really even know who that was then. Still, memories.
People want to compare Karen Carpenter to everyone else out there. That alone speaks volumes for her natural talent.
Since we can't listen to her live anymore, go check out some of her talk-show appearances where she randomly sings a segment or two during interviews, then check it against a CD. She had perfect pitch.
Without the technology of today and singing off the couch, I'd be surprised if anyone could match her!
@notwaiting If she was sitting at the end of a couch singing a song over & over again & you were sitting on the othe end of the couch, you would barley be able to hear her. But when you combine the voice with the microphone, my goodness. I've seen many of the biggest names sing & Karen hands down was the Best I'm my opinion. People try to compare all these years later- that's a great compliment-, but still there will only be one Karen. Your comment is 100% correct! Thank you.
Can you feel the pain Karen was going through? This remarkable woman extended the range from ecstatic joy to excruciating pain. This fabulous record demonstrates that range.
heard tell some reporter or facsimile thereof accused her of being 'fat' hence, the onset of anorexia, and ultimate demise. can't help but wonder. was the sonofabitch that created this tragedy buried in 13 small holes...or 12 maybe... head in the chest cavity.
Karen's voice was one of a kind, that of an angel! I have listened to her music since I was a child and it just touches your heart like nobody elses music does!!
¿Cuando dejo el talento e ser lo importante en la industria de la música?...¿Cuando la imagen gano? Quisiera tener una voz así tan brillante pero solo hubo una Karen.
You're kidding right?? I love Shania too but she's not in the same league as Karen vocally. She doesn't have the 4 octave range of Ms. Carpenter. I think KD Lang would be a better comparison since they are both alto singers. :))
what a voice, clear as mountain spring, each word on each lyric precise and yet enchanting in its warmth . songs made extrordinary by this amazing haunting voice.
Again: I wanted to watch and listen to the classic voice that we will never experience again and I have to bypass an advertisement from Obama on his jobs program. You have no heart to step on music like this President.
I hope Randy Schmidt (Author of Little Girl Blue) had the chance to watch Piers Morgan's interview with Michael Jackson's brother Jermaine Jackson, where Jermaine talks about how people write "UNAUTHORIZED" books about celebrities. Sound familiar Carpenter fans??? For as many people who have bought & read his mere pamplet of a book. Family, Friends, people who lived & toured it know most.
I am a big Carpenters fan but I have to say that Karen did a great----- job on this song this is my favorite., but all her songs are great very hard to pick just one.
Yes Richard was brilliant producer and arranger in the studio but non of the songs would be as memorable with Karen's brilliant voice. She was ALWAYS the best instrument on the record.
We live in a world where the media just adds fuel to an already burning fire.Randy Schmidt is no different!!! How much substance can there be to an Author who purposely only puts part of Richard Carpenters head on a cover of a book that he has written, and then he states, when you get done reading the book, people will understand. Little Girl Blue is a mere Pamphlet compared to all the Facts that he couldn't get, some things "MUST" stay private Randy, because we know you would print it! GB KC
I would like to put this one out there & roll the Dice for the world to read & see what they think of this idea. I would Love more than anything in the world for Richard Carpenter to get the Carpenter band together (including Herb, & Burt who were a Big part) & do a tribute show for Karen &Tony. Why not one more time, for the good old times. Everyones getting older each & every year, I really believe in my heart that this would be special & Karen could be included on a Big Screen with Pictures
@vmuto1 I think it is a great idea I don't think the band is that old . I saw you where having words with some person on here a while ago anyway. I am a huge fan thanks for all your post on here.
I like Allison Krauss' voice a lot but Celine makes me want to turn the radio off. Nobody has the rich texture of Karen's lower range and is as clear as a whistle with her pronunciation
@Purple1984Rain You are a million% right! Singers can imitate Elvis' voice and Frank Sinatra and others, but I've never heard any girl singer that could duplicate her's. Her voice was in a category all it''s own.
there was no one there for karen. her life was doomed because of richards controlling. she took the only way out. God bless you Karen. Your life was living hell but when you died instantly you hugged Jesus and He led you into your space in heaven. Jesus said "You are with Me & Richard can no longer touch you here"
Karen looks so beautiful in this promotional video. She appears to be healthy and vibrant. That's how I prefer to remember her. She was absolutely "awesome"!!!
she's one of my favorite singers of all time... too bad she went to heaven so early...Now she is singing in Heaven...God Bless her soul. I wish I had that kind of voice....just dreaming*
Karen was offered a shampoo commercial after doing this video, someone must of liked the way she was walking through the flowers in this video- bet you didn't know that Mr. Little Girl Blue, she considered doing it, it never panned out, but she was flattered by the offer. Another Carpenter Tidbit that I know the fans would think was pretty cool.
@vmuto1 Karen was offered a lot of things, including, most importantly, many chances to be seen as her own person. She ALWAYS said no because of Big Brother Richard's fragile ego.
I will go on the record by saying Karen Carpenter's problem was ultimately SELF ESTEEM, that lead to her eating disorder. Over the last 10 months countless people have told me that I was right about Randy Schmidt just wanting to sell books, however pay no kudos to me. The fans usually find out the truth. I can add 25 chapters to Randy's INCOMPLETE book. The people who wouldn't talk to him will talk to me, because I would NEVER throw people of whom I Love under the bus, especially Karen.
@vmuto1 The only people who wouldn't speak to Randy were Richard and the band. Does the phrase "hundreds of interviews with Karen's closest friends and confidantes" ring any bells?
Really looking forward to the day some of the Carpenters backstage footage is released, of before & after the shows. I've been lucky enough a while back to see some INCREDIBLE footage. Now as far as someones question of who Karen admired as friends most. Karen Loved Debbie & Carol very much & would of Loved to get back to conn. much more. Karen didn't look at herself as famous & these two ladies are down to earth & not out for the celebrity. Only mistake they made was talking to Randy Schmidt.
As for The Carpenters & The Hall of Fame. Look friends, The Carpenters did their own thing, ONE BIG THING, that people should know is they didn't sign up to be on anyones team, or kiss anyones ass. They recorded, did touring galore around the world,, recieved grammies, best selling American group between 1970-80. Richard even says,"you dont have to like us, but you can't say we're not good" They we're ORIGINAL, & that pisses people off still today. Even Donny & Marie has seem to forget KC & RC.
Why God created music ? Music is the thing that hold people together, calm anger, and make the world more beautiful . The carpenters , Abba, Bee Gees , the Beattles songs still live on because they reflect the beauty of music
but Music nowaday has been ruined a lot, Lady Gaga is the music icon today, but i think she's the icon of evil music
@toffeetigerkimba I beg you pardon? one of the top three voices in the world? what else need Karen to be the best? She´s the best. That´s the only truth!!!!!
DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY WEDDINGS IN THE WORLD HAD THAT SONG WE,VE ONLY JUST BEGUN PLAYED AS THE BRIDE AND GROOM SONG . ... MORE HAMBURGERS THAN MCDONALDS HAVE SOLD ....BELIEVE THAT .

Yes Richard was brilliant producer and arranger in the studio but non of the songs would be as memorable with Karen's brilliant voice. She was ALWAYS the best instrument on the record.

She was an amazing singer with a special voice. The only one to come close would be Ann Murray

GB KC

Why did you have to die, Karen?

Emmy-Lou Harris would be one. Celine Dion. Allison Kraus. etc. But Karen might be the best even out of them!
toffeetigerkimba 6 months ago
@toffeetigerkimba
I like Allison Krauss' voice a lot but Celine makes me want to turn the radio off. Nobody has the rich texture of Karen's lower range and is as clear as a whistle with her pronunciation
Purple1984Rain 5 months ago
@Purple1984Rain You are a million% right! Singers can imitate Elvis' voice and Frank Sinatra and others, but I've never heard any girl singer that could duplicate her's. Her voice was in a category all it''s own.

there was no one there for karen. her life was doomed because of richards controlling. she took the only way out. God bless you Karen. Your life was living hell but when you died instantly you hugged Jesus and He led you into your space in heaven. Jesus said "You are with Me & Richard can no longer touch you here"
pbrick6301 6 months ago
it's really a shame that her brother was such a controlling jackass. He holds a lot of responsibility for karen's downfall.

That has stuck with me for a very, very long time.................... simply because her voice is.............. "Like Honey"
Will any of todays vocalists be recognised for the same!!!!!!!!

@vmuto1 I'm sick of your Randy bashing. get off your high horse and write your book. Those who can do, and those who can't just talk about it.
Looking forward to your irrelevant responses to my posts.
I know that you're Karen's cousin, so stop hiding.
