  • i think your camera needs a rework

  • Come on, stop spewing bull**it.

Any company that trusts chinese cheap multimeters so much that then at some point loose significant money is company of morons.

Your explanations sounds as if it was "customized" to suite some of more established manufacturers that might lent or gave away some equipment for your tests.

I am not saying that chinese crap is in every aspect equal to e.g. FLuke, but it certainly can be useable for some non-critical uses.

  • @Brane214 I'm not spewing bullshit, I'm telling a story about how a cheap multimeter MAY cause you significant problems and financial loss you may not have considered before.

I have never said cheap meters aren't useful for non-critical use, I have used them extensively myself for just such purposes.

  • Dave, I have a question about the rubber band thing. I know this video is a few years old but couldn't you have used zip ties instead of the rubber bands? or did you use the rubber bands because they hold a constant tension on the wires or something? Just curious.

  • @eurokid83 It was both a space and ease of use thing. When you manufacture thousands of these things, having to operate a cable tie and then trim off the excess is extra steps you don't want in your already complex assembly process. Also, the protruding cable tie clip would have been a problem when the tight fitting shells went over it.

  • yes i do and if you won't the best you make it your self.

that is what people did in are class when there was no big business.

you should not rely on big business, because in the end they will let you down.

+ if you make it your self you can repair it !!!

  • why would that be stupid? if you can make your own multimeter you can put what you

won't in it, and make it as good as tou won't it to be.

  • @jone3333333333 It's stupid because you'd spend a TON of time and money on producing something that can already be bought to 99% satisfaction. Do you know how much effort goes into a designing and building a robust and safe handheld multimeter?

  • why don't you make your own multimeter?

  • @jone3333333333 Because that would be stupid.

  • The quality of some chinese products is getting better. Theres some decent hifi tube amps coming out of there these days... I don't like to shoot down a whole nation because of a few bad products. I mean North America has its share of lemons too... theres bad engineering and QC everywhere.

  • I agree with you dave. The chinesse stuff is really crap. Spend the money.

  • Love your blogs, no where else can we get professional industrial details in great vblog format... thanks mate.

  • Actually, one of our guys had an 87 IV... It looks pretty much the same as a 187/189. It has a specific IR interface lead, which caused us no end of trouble. We had the setups for the 199C, 280 and 180 Series IR ports... Automated calibration proceedures don't work if you can't interface both instruments!

  • What a strange comment...

  • Hi Dave, I want to buy a good multimeter and I saw a Fluke 116 for 130€ I think is more than enough for me for now but should spend 100€ more for a 87V is it worth it? I don't have much money at the time but I guess I could make an effort.

    What do you think?

    Thank you!

  • The Fluke 116 is a HVAC specific multimeter, it is not as useful for general electronics use.

i.e. it can't measure more than 600uA current.

If money is an issue, look at other brands, like Amprobe (Fluke owned) or Extech maybe.

  • Well I picked that one just for the uCurrent feature wich has 0.1uA of resolution but you are right, even the 17B has better capabilities measuring current. I looked for the brands you told me and I think I'll just save more money and go for the 87V but I also found a 87 III for 150€ but for 60€ more I guess the new one its a better choice. Thank You!

  • Yea but Joe Blow is not making 30,000 gear and in manufacturing. They are testing the light bulb in the car or a out let in the house. You are nuts to use none PRO Gear in a manufacturing environment.

Rubber band for wire bundles or tie off? OH MY NO ONE DOES THAT. We have had standards for this for 60 years, Military and Aerospace.

  • I think just "Cheap" multimeter will do. If and when China becomes too expensive the cheap stuff will just be made somewhere else.

The real problem is the consumers willing to buy cheap s***.

  • And that's why you don't use cheap Chinese multimeters for PROFESSIONAL USE. There's a good reason why you buy quality tools (be it a wrench, drill or multi meter) when you're about to use the TOOL for a serious job where faulty tools cost money. I'm sure you know your stuff, but you just express yourself in so annoying manner it just doesn't work. Spend some time planning the videos and people will bother listening to what you tell. And understand the difference of hobby/professional use.Cheers

  • @jipasd well the price of tools is indexed and fully depenant upon market price fluctuations in the global market for eggs.

  • Were these geophones?

  • Hydrophones actually.
