It depends on what you use it for. If you just want to surf the web. Then the atom would be the right choice. If you play games or do video editing, then you would need a core 2 duo.

its a known fact faster oscillating cpus dont make games faster, getting a decent midrange energy efficient video card + using a fast usb key with ready boost and l gb of ram and youll play oblivion or crisis without a hickup whatsoever

atom don't suck at least atom wont cost you 350$ a year extra on your power-bill like a quad core does just to run and choke on java apps, and atom doesn't act as a microwave room heater and most likely runs silent without the need of a ruckus hairdryer like fan.

hey captian dumbass, atom does suck for the gamers. atom is used for simple basic appications like word or using the net. an atom processor will nvr compare to the power of a dual/quad core cpu. well if u can afford a quad core processor, ur electric bill doesnt rly matter now does it?

@NateN34 nope not 3 years ,a cpu can go for as much as 5 years now,and a gfx card maybe 4 years if its top of the line,thats cause usually pple buy monitors with 1280x1028 max resolution,that does not require a good card,but they still buy cards way better than they need to run anything maxed at that resolution

hardware does get pretty good now but who cares,you don't need it,at all,even for gaming

from what ive read on them they will run vista up to three times faster than the intel celern the atom that is.

Oh yeah thats right... they will run Vista so incredibly well that Microsoft, caught totally flat footed and with no answer except to extend the life of XP (again) in a desperate attempt to counter the rapidly expanding presence of Linux in these low end markets... first off it wasn't Microsoft you idiot, who said that the atom would run faster than the celeron it was Intel and this is confirmed my friend the Intel atom the 1.8ghz model with Hyper threading Will be up to three times faster than the celeron, not the base model which is only half the performance of the celeron so read up on your facts before you flam people cause i never said that i truly believed this I was quoted what I read you noob.
