  • Where exactly is this again? I live at the end of Careys Run and would like to know where to find this.

  • @SunShineCrystal03- Well, I think the Union Mills Confectionery shop is located at 1120 Galena Pike, in W. Ports. You can mapquest it or GPS it. Their phone number is 858-4633 (as seen in the video). I haven't been to W. Ports in a while, so I don't even know if they are still in business. It wasn't too far from that mini mart/ fuel stop, and, as shown in the video, is a blue-colored building that kind of looks like a house. Park in their parking lot, and you should be able to walk to the lock.

  • @SunShineCrystal03- In my video, the Confectionery shop is painted blue. I believe the shop has since been repainted a deep reddish- maroon color.

  • what a shame! The canals here in the UK are still looked after, infact i am looking into buying a boat and living on the canal.

  • I totally agree. too much of our past is disappearing. we should preserve items such as this lock before its all gone. They've restored the Lock 4 in canal fulton. This one doesnt have to be fully restored, but at least try and preserve it for generations to come.

  • its really sad to see the locks in the condition they are in :(

  • Yup. Scioto County is too stupid to realize the tourist value of such sites, or it would have capitalized on them decades ago.

  • @CincinnatiGifts hey does the scioto river connect to the ohio river

  • Yes it does, right at Portsmouth, Ohio.

  • hey nice video... those segments of the canal in scioto county should be protected and turned into a tourist attraction. They are an important piece of Scioto history as well as Ohio history

  • Thanks! Indeed, they should be protected. The Scioto County Tourism board isn't too swift, or it would have bought up all three of the old canal sites I have made videos of, and turned them in to informative historical tourist sites.

I've found three areas of the old canal itself. This particular segment of the canal is right next to Rt 104, yet no one knows it's there.

I lived in Scioto County for 9 1/2 years and never knew these canals existed, and yet I was so close all those years.
