Lurve this Madness track... Took me back to my teenage years (15) getting smashed on Old English Cider at Randells Ride Park in Hemel Hempstead! Good times. :c)
great days when u knew what it was to be english, its all gone now we have lost our identity, you walk round london (if you dare) and you hardly hear anyone speaking english with a english accent,i am not a racist but it sad and we have lost our identity
Brilliant! Was in a cafe in south London a couple of months ago with a lovely girl, Beans, sausages fried eggs and this song playing over the speakers! A cig outside for afters, What more could a man want! (I've since given up the cigs and the girl but not the memory's!) That's life!

Madness has a typical sound that cannot be found to any others ska bands at this time. Someone says it wasn't ska, but never mind, I'm french and found of madness because of this "exception". videos are fun, and they are all good musicians. Some days I regret this time, I saw them in 1986 in Paris and it's written on my mind.

Its not Spanish at the start. Suggs says "hi there folks, welcome to the Tommy Cwimes combo" a couple of the band members dads played with the Tommy Cwimes combo in the early 1960s and 70s....no offence...
@studiohamfar No Your Right I Was Been Sarcastic..But I Was Making A Point Of A Song Doesnt Have To Have Words ,No Ego-tistical Way Ment , Its Just A Point Trying To Get Accross
Its has to be said how can musicians make such a classic song, i'd love to know how they do it - or indeed driven to making this. pure genius without going over the top
This song by Madness is amazing, SKA.. but it reaches across. I have listened to this song 20 TIMES, and it just doesn't get boring.. the video is superb... why oh why cant we in Britain ignore the COFFEE houses.. and go back to a CAFE
Fuck i remember this!! it was when me and the girl were Driving in my car she said it was an Embarrassment i nearly pissed my Baggy Trousers Then we broke down and who arrived but Micheal Caine Well my missus was Lovestruck So we took The Night-boat to Cairo but my missus dismisses this and says we would be better taking a Ghost Train to see Uncle Sam I said no way that is One Step Beyond and the Grey Day!!! continued as we just spent the night in Our House with 5 friends and we listened to THIS
Time was when the new Madness video came out, you made a point of seeing it, even this quirky number. Absolutely the best type of music, cos dancing to it was easy. Even dads could do it without looking like dicks
Maybe im wrong, but the greatest music groups (the old ones, there´s no greatest group in the earliest 10 years ago) come fron Englad, or , in some way, are related to the uk
From the US here. A friend gave me the "One Step Beyond" and "Absolutely" records after receiving them as a gift. He declared them Shit. I gladly took them off his hands because I thought they were brilliant records. Any group that could go from the jangled cacophony of Baggy Trousers to the loungy smoothness of the Return of the Los Palmas 7 was genius in my mind. My friend later demanded his records back when Our House was released. I refused. He didnt deserve such find records.
agree mate, i used 2 go in a cafe near chelsea now its a bistro or some other bollox, no more pie n mash, no proper pubs....this country has lost it's heart n soul and i, like many, want out!
Great.
