There are the great number of different Cossacs (Kuban, Donskie, Zaporozhskie and many others) with different history and traditions. It is a mix of vigorous and freedom-loving (even anarchical) people from all parts of Russian Empire.
In the beginning they ran from the government, from serfdom, from depts, from the law but then owing to the wise policy of the Imperors they became the best and the most faithful warriors of the Russian Empire. They always lived on the borders and protected them. Kuban cossacs live near Caucasus, so they took many parts from the unique highlander culture. And this fact doesn't make them less Russians.

I thought Stalin served with Semen Budenny during the Russo Polish war of 1919 to 1921.
I think Stalin hated most everyone and Cossacks fought for both the Soviets and the White Russians in the civil war.
Many people served the Germans during WW2 (well at first at least) because they hated the Soviets more.

I am NOT an Albanian. I don' t know anything about them either but I have attended Russian Ortodox Church Outside of Russia services and thought they were very beautiful and had deep meaning. I don't know much about the other groups in Russia either but it seems like they don't get along any better than the ethnic and racial groups in the US get along and maybe worse in some cases.

These are Cossacks. They used to run porgrams on Jews and kill hundreds. The Jews got smart and left and then I think they killed a lot of Nazis. First of all, excuse my English. You confuse some events. Cossacks from river Kuban and river Don was Caesar-people (King-people). Men was persons liable for call-up in any time. For that, goverment free them from many tallages. Kossacks had no social envy at Jews, because they lived better then Jews. But during civil war 1918-1920 ukrenian nationalists under the leadership Petlura indeed maked a lot of pogroms. They called themselves "Cossacks" too, but in fact they was not Cossacks.

Kossacs are not a nation or a people. It is social group, maybe they may be called "subethnos". There are the great number of different Cossacs (Kuban, Donskie, Zaporozhskie and many others) with different history and traditions. It is a mix of vigorous and freedom-loving (even anarchical) people from all parts of Russian Empire.

In the beginning they ran from the government, from serfdom, from depts, from the law but then owing to the wise policy of the Imperors they became the best and the most faithful warriors of the Russian Empire. They always lived on the borders and protected them. Kuban cossacs live near Caucasus, so they took many parts from the unique highlander culture. And this fact doesn't make them less Russians.
