Hi Mike. I learned to play this when I was around 8 years of age and is one of the few piano pieces that I can still play . Now in my 70s my fingres are arthritic and I dont get to play as often as I used to. The Harry Lime them was from the original spy move back in the late 1930s or early 40s called the "The Third Man " It was in those days a black and white movie, I cant remember whay it was called the Harry Lime Theme but is still popular in this day and age of rubbish being churned out.
@steinwaygrande1 You are absolutely right. I remember having the Sheet Music and playing this song called "The Third Man Theme" in the early 50s. Of course, my playing was far from the way Mke plays it. Nice to hear these old songs that will live on due to Mike playing them so well. I also agree with you about today's so called "music" - here today but gone by tomorrow!
@NanaJoan1 Hi NanaJoan. Thank you for your kind reply to my comment. Sadly I have all but stoped playing the piano due to Osteo Arthritis in my hands. On a good day I can still play the Harry LIme Theme from start to finish, but have to rest my hands after wards. The curse of growing old. Also the Steinway Grand that I had has been traded in for a Yamaha Disk Klavier, as we have down sized house to something more manageable. Kids all left home now. No need for a large house anymore.
I am NOW trying to learn this semi difficult tune on my piano... Are you SURE you can't use an AMERICAN house boy to help you with chores and also play along with you?? I'd be gald to sell out and come over to Australia! Hugz, Allen Dale.
@allendale1962 Hey good luck with that (if you want any help just ask-I will try & help if I can). Haha I'm pretty much self-indepandant but thanks for the kind offer :-). I'm going to upload my own arrangement of "You Belong To Me" soon-I love your version just as much as Patsy's!
I remember when I played this in the early 50s. Over here in the USA, it was called "The Third Man Theme". What memories of great days now past. Love your music.
Just great Mike! I like the hat and shirt. I hope you have a/c in your house. The garlands on your piano add a festive touch too. Your playing is wonderful.
Really beautiful. But I wish you wouldn't do injustice to your skill and the nice music by playing in a sweaty vest and guzzling beer. Do a recording looking smart and clean. Please, Ken (England)
This is No1Pearl coming back at you. I sure like that "Harry Lime Theme". Enjoyed the playing, love the hat and the shirt isn't bad either. Keep playing.
Anton Karas - I think , was responsible for making the Harry Lime famous on the Zither, although it was originally composed for the movie "The Third Man" way back in the 1950s if not before. Its a long time since I saw the the movie, which was before colour films were made
Thanks Mike. I have the old LP record of Anton Karas playing the Harry Lime Theme on the Zither which in turn I taught myself to play on the piano, plus "I`ve got a lovely bunch of Coconuts " in the key of C. Cant get any easier than that
boy, your' piano is terrible detuned. i tried to play along to, see u playing a A and its a G... however; technically not that perfect, but a heart and a smile makes this highly recommend.
Mate that was bloody brilliant and certainly well worth the wait aye. A truly great Xmas present which is very much appreciated Mike fantastic stuff and played to perfection as usual. I love your other three recent postings as well especially the the waltz's they are great!! Talk to you soon.
Weird. Minutes after posting that last message, a link came through to your Xmas vid that you'd actually done about quarter of an hour before but which hadn't come through yet. However, now it has come through a note says the video is unavailable and it won't play. Tech probs with YT no doubt, but looking forward to when it arrives.
Yet another great video. As said above, thanks for all the great videos you have provided us with this year. It has been a pleasure listening to you play all your fantastic songs. I wish you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and the Happiest of New Years.
Hi Mike, Seeing the decs on the piano made me think you should do a medley of Xmas songs. Not necesarily carols, but some of the fun songs like 'sending/Letter/Santa', 'Santa/stuck/chimney'. Mrs Mills did a great Xmas album with these sort of songs on. Would love to hear you playing them. Have a good Crimbo mate, and thanks for all your YT vids this year that have given pleasure. Chris.
