When you understand and appreciate how it was all done without a single transistor, integrated circuit or CPU, typing on a computer seems boring by comparison.
I collect IBM Typewriters. I have a Selectric I, II, and III, early typebar models A, B, C, D, and early electronic models 50, 65, 75, 85, and 95. Check out my video of the Model 85.
What was really crazy was I had to WAIT to 10th grade to take typing in 1964 as Freshman couldn't take the class. We had manual ROYAL Typewriters back then, and there was ONE boy in the class, because he was planning to go to Engineering School at the U. of Illinois. My children all taught themselves to type on our computers when they were about three. How is that possible? LOL
I typed all of my school reports on ours - a cream colored one. Sounded like a car engine when you turned it on, and I loved that I could "erase" whole sentences!
I could be wrong, of course, but I think I may remember having seen this commercial a time or two during the IBM-sponsored broadcasts of the George C. Scott version of "A Christmas Carol" on CBS during the 1980s. The good old days...((sigh))
I have a Typewriter (Not IBM) That can also erase mistakes, But i never learned how.

The IBM Selectric III was such a great typewriter! Most days I'd trade in my laptop for one!

In the early '70s, I learned how to type on the old-fashioned typewriter in this ad! LOL
