I OC my 955 to 3.6 ghz on stock voltage runs stable never crashes., 3.7 crashed only after 4+ hours of Battle Field 3 on max settings. Download AMD OverDrive. Install open go to Clock/Voltage, Go down to Clock make sure select all cores is checked. Increase to 18x apply and boom. You won't fry your chip with multipliers. Your computer will only restart. as well once you reboot it'll go back to stock. 60 Cels is ideal. But, I run mine at 67 C happily. Above 70 is bad news.
Seems the stock cooler can handle 3.6 just fine. It's noisy as hell though. I got the 955BE around the time it came out and it's been awesome value for the money. Now I ran into this video and decided to give it a go, so thanks. =)
@ilikejumpstyle I OC my 955 to 3.6 ghz on stock voltage Download AMD OverDrive. Install go to Clock/Voltage, Go down to Clock make sure select all cores is checked. Increase to 18x apply. CPU-Z is a program that tells you your current clocks on all hardware. Don't use your Motherboard for OC its dangerous. As well as upping volts.
its super easy in BIOS, all I had to do was increase the multiplier and the voltage to 1.5 and I had a stable 4Ghz cpu in less time than it took to install the cpu cooler.
which by the was is a Be Quiet! dark rock which keeps it at a cool 27-30C idle and 44-46C under 100% load, while still being super quiet, I can't hear the cpu cooler over the case fans even under 100% load at 4GHz!
if my max 100% load temp is 50C I have a lot of OCing headroom!
I bought the 955BE a little more than a year ago,, i used the Stock Cooler for a week,, to break in the CPU,, then i laid the wood to it,, i set the Multiplyer to 20,, the CPU Voltage to 1.55. and got rid of the Stock cooler for a much better one and have been Running VERY stable at 4 GHZ for a bit over a year now.
max voltage for amd 955 is 1.55v, and it's not called a free clock ratio... lol all 955 or B.E(black edtion) or should i say all B.E CPU has unlocked multiplier...
man if the system are not boot after overclock you dont need to tuach the batary u can use the clr option to reset the bios systen and sorry about my eng ....:)
@mangymetal i dont know if i already replied or not bc youtube is weird... but i test it with prime 95 and now i have oced it to 4.3 ghz and it runs at 64 C :D
What do you mean in small step, you mean by increasing the voltage carefully right?
Well, I have on CPU-Z 1.344 volt. So basically what Ill need to do is change the clock ratio to x18 and then add how much on the cpu voltage. I am not sure how much should I add to my current voltage. What do you suggest me. ( I am a big newbie ) Thanks.
@gambaownsus Try "Prime95". Just choose "In place large FFTs" after running prime95. You can download it for free. Your CPU (955) shouldn't reacht 65°. Best Temp ist between 50 - 60° in load. OC your CPU in small steps when you are unsure.
@XCARxPILExUPX Why is my cpu on idle 53c and on my old one it was 36c when i game it goes to 65c theres no dust i only bought it yesterday my case has good airflow
I'm new to overclocking. If I just increase the multiplier and voltage some will I have to adjust all the other stuff if I just want to overclock my CPU and not my RAM or anything else?
@zakoe07 Then you have auto clock on. This underclocks your Frequenz when you don't need power, but overclocks to 3,4ghz when you play something or video rendering.
sorry to say but every one dont get volt 100% right that why there is prime 95 to get it right pluse the only time you will fry your CPu on volt is if it goes over 1.55v on the Phenom II x4
Dude I'm sorry but you don't have to bump the voltage to go 3.6GHz.
I got as far as 3.9GHz (and 4.2 un) STABLE with NO Voltage increase... ;)
doggysoftbg 2 weeks ago
Dude I just got this CPU, but why not up the FSB, isn't that like a better performance increase compared to upping the multiplier?

I Oc'ed my 955 be to 3.6, I got Mugen 2 rev b.
and I notice that before and after OCing the temp didnt change... Is that normal?

@XCARxPILExUPX You're kidding me? My idle temp while overclocked is 43-45 and max 55 on load, but underclocked is about 35-40
And with max temp hit 62, I'm freaking out :s
My clock is 3.8GHz atm with NB 2.6 (1.4 Vcore and 0.5 NB core)
And I use Zalman CNPS7500 CU LED CPU Cooler :( is it a bad cooler?
