Thirty years ago when my Mom played this, we all just shook our heads. NOW I'm still shaking my head - BECAUSE I'M LIVING IT! Allan was a genius and his stuff is still relevant and hilarious today. Thanks for this gem (which I still know the words to!) Oy! My Zelda!
I love this shmo! I used to listen to him in the 60's - my Jewish mother went into fits of lauughter when we played the "My Son, The Folk-Singer" album!! We had the whole thing memorized. But where are the vids of the really funny ones on that album...especially "My Zelda"? Oh please would someone post some more videos of his stuff from that album. :):)
Hello Faddah, Its your Muddah. I just plozted in.. my reclinah. Alans very entertaining. And its familiyah somevere here in my brain..ing. it very late, dear. I must go now. The diner cuts off senior discount at 5Pm now.
I highly recommend the box set "My Son the Box" from Rhino Handmade. It's a bit steep but it contains just about everything Allan Sherman has ever recorded.
if you have the chance to get his autobiography, "A Gift Of Laughter" it will change your life! this guy was a genius of his age, and it's worth noting that when he had nothing going for him and was about to quit, he recalls, he thought to himself..."I had some songs"
I Love Allen sherman thanks for posting this... my dad raised me on him... I used to listen to his album my father the nut all the time.... he swoons cirlces over weird al
Nice, in 1990, in grade 5, I attended an event at what would soon be my middle school and two students acted/lip sync'd this song. I've been waiting for this for awhile. It's funny.
Actually,back then,inclusion of a parody song
WOULD have been possible...but,the writer of
the special lyrics would have had to forego
royalties...Which is why changes happened
later...as per my previous message. Change
HAD to come, because the old system produced
a MONOPOLY which excluded other talented
parodists who were unknown to big music
companies...

Way back when, there were only a handful of
song parodists...the court ruling "2 Live
Crew v. Acuff-Rose" changed that.
Now,parodies are "fair use".
But Allan Sherman (R.I.P.) and Ray Stevens
were among its pioneers...

I've been hooked on Allan Sherman ever since I was a kid in the 60's. I know all the words to all his songs...and I'm a gentile!

Damn, too bad the audio on this clip is so poor. This is hip stuff and Sherman was a master. Al Yakovic (or whatever his name is)? Please.

Petula Clark would not have gotten the royalties...It would have been the song's writer, Tony hatch...

This is one of the few songs parodied by both Bob Rivers and Allan Sherman. (Another is "12 Days of Christmas".)

I like the casual drug reference to pills, too.
I first saw this on a Manhattan public access show called "Bri-Guy's Media Surf."

That was hysterical!! "We have to get dressed and borrow a car and go doooown tooown". One of my favorite songs parodied by the great Allan.

This was the best copy I have been able to find, sorry about the quality, I had hoped the unique contents would make up for the poor sound.

Yes, he was a genius. Said that he never put this on an album because he 'couldn't afford to pay royalties to Petula Clark.'

Alan did put this on an album . It was called "Mallets Towards None" Just thought I'd let you know. =Stefan=
