  • LOL. So if idents use rich colours, cutting edge (at the time) computer technology, and spacey futuristic music, it's americanized. However, look at today's UK idents: point the camera at a tree and paste on the channel's logo in a corner of the screen, and that's a good old British ident, eh? Give me UK 80s/early 1990s idents ANY DAY. Even over todays TV shows!!!

  • @Aexexx I didn't say it as a criticism, just an observation.,

  • Hmm,it's funny,the 80s idents didn't strike me as American. I suppose it's not a bad thing.

  • Some sad news to report Applemask. ITV plc has bought Channel Television today for about £10m.

  • @MrBSergeant Ah, the fuckers.

  • @Applemask LOL! Aye! terrible isn't it? Only STV and UTV still standing.

  • @Applemask Oh man. Looks like this is the end of Channel at least having something. I think the way they do it in Japan of just having random local TV channels that are channels in their own right rather than being part of a big network would be good. Then again I don't know if they're going when analogue turns off or whether they're bothering to make them digital.

  • Did you know that Channel did take its ITV network feed from Westward, then TSW before this was changed to TVS and Meridian later on?

  • What? Is that the end of dat?

  • Channel's 1993 ident looks to me like it ought to appear in a frontcap for an early 90's VHS. reminds me of the Channel 5 video idents and the macrovision idents to me.

  • Apparently, Channel launched a competition to design their first logo, the hexagons and leopard's head being the winning entry.

  • The first animated logo (at 3.36) uses library music.

It's from a suite called 'Superstar Fanfare' by Keith mansfield. There's about 8 variants of it.

It was recorded in 1981, so it must have been a fair few years old by the time CTV picked it up, no doubt for a bargain price.

  • Sorry to say this (as I really like this series!), but Channel had IVC as well. I really don't know how well-used it was, but some IVC from the early 90s is kicking around on the net. Fully-fledged set jobbie it was as well, similar to UTVs but more ornate. Not much of it will survive though due to the tiny stature of Channel.

  • Great work as ever!

  • The ident at 5:14 reminds me of nothing less than, ironically enough, Channel 5 video, the fantastic video distribution label from the 80s and 90s.

  • No mention of Puffin's Pla(i)ce?

  • It's in there.

  • is it?

  • Between 3:08 - 3:10.

  • @Applemask I'm sure I've mentioned this before either on a forum or on one of your videos but I work with somebody who used to work at Channel and he says his greatest achievement in broadcasting is that he was once a puppet on Puffin's Pla(i)ce. For one show.

  • Yes I thought it looked like Blockbusters too
