Dude, you've blown me away with this! Needless to say I've spent the past two hours figuring out you transcription of the piano intro and well this song is now apart of the set list. Thank you for sharing this! Rock on, love to have you check out some of my classical guitar covers if you ever get a chance!
Jethro Tull should pick you up to sing vocals at their shows, since Ian's voice is shot. He can still have his flute, but by god they would benefit form you.
I have been playing this song for years on the acoustic and have never even approached your skill with this tune! (AND the Aqualung version - VERY good!).
I fully second MVTVT's excellent appraisal!
Constructively here ya go:
You NAIL this song! However, it is very note by note of the original resulting in less of YOU and more of Ian A. Truly a 'cover' not a 'version'
However, anyone who's ever played JT knows - The songs are just better the way Ian did it - so why screw with perfection!
Your Jethro Tull covers are very convincing. They're lacking nothing. I think if I was in the same room listening to you I would be totally into it.
You are true to the songs. There is a word or expression for it but I can't quite find it.
I'll even go so far as to say that I think your covers are the best I have heard on Youtube so far. I am really entertained by your playing and singing.
Amazing! Brilliant! You are a wonderfully talented musician who has not only covered some of these classics with extreme skill, but also you've done the best job that I have ever seen of translating some very difficult and complicated pieces into a single-guitar arrangement. Your technical skill is staggering, and you have a great voice that does justice to the songs. Bravo!!!
Found you with Aqualung and I thought that was exceptional...this is just as good or better. If you're not doing this professionally, you should be! Thank you for posting!
Brings back all the memories. My first ever concert 1972 Hartford 10th row. Rowdy crowd. Ian sez during flute solo " Hey all you enthusiastic mateys shutup or all you'll get is a load of bullshit" , Then right into locomotive breath and everyone in the house is standing on their chairs clapping.
dude...if you call this a joke i would really like to see what happens when you are serious. this was great. your voice and the capo was spotless. thank you so much for posting this. and thank you for playing from the heart.
never appreciated the original that much as a Tull fan but this........bello bello bello bello See my video paintings. I live in a serious Victorian railroad town now-a-days HA HA HA Locomotive.
Dude , the more I watch this video the more I wanna say that this is one of the most awsome things I have ever seen.Where can I see this Live.I'm there
absolutely amazing andea ive done lots of tull songs in my local pub and youve helped me learn this one too. Im really grateful.I may post some of my songs when I get the equipment. Keep posting yr brilliant versions of Ians stuff
Incredible! I 1st saw Jethro Tull on the Aqualung tour (1970), and I generally resent those who try to do any cover - invariably they mean well, but they butcher it. NOT YOU MAN. I came over here from your remarkable work-up of Thick as a Brick, and now this!!! You blow me away with both your talent and your faithfulness to the work. Ian Anderson and Martin Barre-Barre would be proud. Now, When can we expect to see "Skating Away (On the Thin Ice of a New Day)"? Thanks very much.
Jack...are you making fun of me? :-) eheheh... I always try to do all my best on my videos on YOUTUBE but, please...listen to the record again! :-) Mr. Anderson would get angry! :-) Ahahah
Incredible energy and creativity! It is fascinating the way you combined what would be the keyboards, rhythm and percussion section sounds into one acoustic guitar.
That's absolutely AMAZING! it's the first time I hear this song in a completely acoustic version which sounds undoubtly rock just the same! replacing John Evan's intro at the piano e making also a percussive use of the guitar is definitely not easy, and you do it relly well! it's been a real pleasure to hear this, and also a sort of a honour being the first person to do it! I'm sure many other people will like this "experiment"...
