I attended Fairtex kickboxing camp in January, 1999 right after my father died. I was an emotional wreck, but EVERYONE at Fairtex camp was very kind and helpful. Alex was a class act and a nice man. A class act!
RIP Gong. I didn't know he passed away let alone how it happened till I read these comments. No disrespect intended, but people have to understand that being a martial artist doesn't make you invincible and that when someone steals anything from you forcibly it's not worth the risk to try and stop them. You can replace a car, wallet, or whatever. Life on the other hand...
Unfortunately Mr. Gong approached a coward attempting to break into his car outside of the Fairtex gym in San Francisco and was subsequently shot by him. R.I.P
I remember, writing to my GF about how Mr Gong got killed. He was in the middle of a class, when he learned (either he saw or was informed by someone) that a man had tried to break into his car. He went out, in his MT gear and gave a chase. The man got away in his car or truck. Somehow, Mr Gong caught up with him. When stopped, he pulled out a gun and shot Mr Gong point blank. The killer then sped off before he was arrested later on by the police.
No, what happened is that the guy side swipped alex's vehicle and sped off.
Alex came out and chased the guy on foot a few blocks away, caught up to him and took his gloves off to fight him. The guy pulled out a gun and shot alex in the chest, which killed him. The guy was a convict being hunted by police and was going to do 25 years to life if caught, he said he would die before he would go back to prison. He killed himself a few hours later in his hotel room, as the police found him.
@BareFisted wow....! That is a really sad story, he seem like a very nice person and in his video he really doing slow you can learn the techniques. Thanks for the techniques. RIP Alex.
@BareFisted Thank you for the information. Yeah, he seen very nice in this video and I really like the way he coach. Where was he coaching when he was still alive?
hell i seen 3 videos on the web involving a shin break from leg kicks, 2 involved the one actually kicking the other opponent and breaking his leg, the other involving dennis alexio checking a leg kick and his shit getting fucked up and broken
By reading my own post now, I realize it is like an unfinished paragraph leading to nowhere. In all reality we arnt meant to be checking low kicks with our shins, its not natural but if you have to in a street altercation rush his ass and take him down, in competition its another story. this is why i would never compete in kickboxing, strictly for self defence, as a major of injuries occur in competition, sparring is ok to get technique down though :) fuck the rest who think otherwise
i'm mainly a grappler but i like muay thai, i've found most injuries occur from grappling, in bjj and even more in wrestling, i find in muay thai and kickboxing, u tend to get bumbs and bruises but not as many actual injuries.
yea agree totally, ive been doing muay thai far longer than bjj. Muay thai i get bruised legs and odd black eye. I've got BJJ to blame for a dodgy knee joint and shagged arm from fast submissions performed with to much stress. And the shin break thing, Why ride a mountain bike when theres a chance you might fall off and break your neck?? Answer: cos you love it. - Chances are with good training something as extreme as a shin break will never happen, i know many fighters none with snapped shins.
and like....i had to train with a professional muay thai fighter im still a beginner at muay thai i started like 2 months ago....but any ways....while we was practiscing certain kicks....he hit me....right....on....my....balls.....with a round house.....if u do muay thai and if u blocked a decent kick with a pad u might know what im talking about lol =/
yeah but like i said, it's knocks, bruises etc, not like ligament tears and things like that, i do muay thai for mma but mainly grapple, mauy thai is generally more painful to train, but when u get an injury in grappling it's usually going to be bad.
Ya not too long ago in hard sparring the guy I was sparring against wasn't wearing a cup. Well anyways he threw a high kick at me and I saw it coming so I slipped to the side and threw a kick aimed at the lower inner part of his thigh to counter it but I went to high with it and man he was on the floor for at least 2 minutes in pain.
Alex gong I never had the pleasure of meeting you but our gym will miss you Alex gong was trained by my coach cru Paul metayo!!
