You are referring to Gabrielle Anderson-Scheiss. She participated in the 1984 women's marathon and suffered from heat exhaustion, but fought through her dizziness and pain to complete the race before collapsing. If you type in her name in the search box, you should be able to see her in an extended part of race with the stewards running to the side of her waiting to catch her if she falls, she completed the race though.

Every 4 (2?) years is not nearly enough. But in more than 1 way, that's just right. Any more frequent and it wouldn't be nearly as special, and the athletes and countries themselves need time to recupe and retrain too.

THat was the 1996 Olympic team final. The gold medal depended on her vault. When she landed her first vault, she tore ligaments in her ankle. On her second chance she landed it on 1 foot and won the first ever team gold for the U.S!!
