  • You litterally just listed every band (with the exception of Library Voices, thanks!) in regular rotation on my mp3 player... Awesome! I highly recommend Amelia Curran, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, Said the Whale and Hey Ocean! There is so much great canadian indie music it's hard to keep up.

  • theres Royal wood and Catherine macellan

  • <3 Danny Michel and the Weakerthans, two great picks, good job!

  • Part of me was hoping you'd mention Arcade Fire ... but I'd say that Owen is still a good choice :)

    - Jason

  • @crimsong19 At the time, I actually didn't listen to Arcade Fire all that might. They're also fairly well known worldwide, and I wanted to feature some artists that might not get a lot of attention outside of Canada.

  • @shakes1327 Mmm, I see your point. :)

  • this vid was awesome, and it will be very useful for my radio show! :)

  • @zware88 Happy to help! :)

  • @shakes1327

you not only reply to comments, but you were also my first commenter on my "channel" jajaj (lol)

    thanks a bunch.

    -Joaco

  • Love Owen Pallett ("I'm never gonna give it to you...)

Ofcourse, thanks to the Arcade Fire, another awesome Canadian band, who introduced him to me :)

  • @Kiwinil Yes! Three cheers for Canadian music!

  • thanks for this list!

  • @bgoluboff1 My pleasure!

  • folk.overload!

  • @FailMatt I suppose you could say so. Depends on your definition of folk. :P

This is the good folk, though!

  • @shakes1327 haha I'm not complaining! In fact I'm hella jealous of all the festivals you've attended!! =)

  • @FailMatt

    fancy running into you here.

  • @ScarlettScarlett99

oh hello there! how are you finding this video?

    :)

  • You have great taste. Those are some of my favourite bands from Canada (as well as all time). Maybe I'll see you at the folk fest. Canada has some great talent in the indie scene right now. I wish I could check out more of the festival this year.

  • I won't see you tomorrow? :-(

Congrats on 30!!! Can you believe it's been a whole month?

I like the snippets I heard of everyone in this video, so I'll definitely have to look them all up. Thanks for the recommendations! Always like finding new music.

  • @regularguy5mb The month really flew by! But at the same time I look back at the videos and realize how much I did this month!

  • @shakes1327 I know what you mean. I'm not even done with my month yet and I feel very accomplished at this point.

  • You're probably a bit bored of me by now, but I wanted to say congratulations on reaching 30 days. All in all I would call it a success. I imagine that the whole process has been quite draining, but I'm sure you've taken something positive away from it.

  • @krendoshazin I'm not bored of you at all! Thanks for the congrats. It was certainly exhausting, but I am so glad I did it.

  • nooooo. come back!

  • @SharkeyeJones I'll be back.

  • 1. There is no one his real name is Hawksley Workman because that is the coolest name ever.

    2. I love Own Pallett. I found him when looking for music from one of the Final Fantasy games.

    3. I had the chance to see The Rural Alberta Advantage and didn't. *facepalm* I think they might be coming here again soon so I have to go next time.

    4. I'm pretty sure I like The Weakerthans but I can't remember.

  • @EricsEveryNewDay 1. He's a pretty cool guy, so he deserves a cool name. Sadly, his real name's Ryan.

    2. Ha, I didn't listen to Owen Pallett forever because I thought he was related to the FF games!

    3. Me too. You'd think they'd play in Alberta more often than they do. :(

    4. I'm pretty sure you do.

  • Hey Jess, a Canadian band that I really like is Jets Overhead, they're from Victoria, BC. MBF is so awesome! I think you were the one who initially introduced his music to me in an older vid. I will miss your daily vlogs! I actually feel like makin' some vlogs myself now, but not until I have a bit more free time - hopefully in the fall. :)

  • @SarblohSingh I've *heard* of Jets Overhead, but I've never actually listened to them. I'll be sure to check them out!

  • Thank you Jess for making this a nice month on Youtube for me. Maybe you can make vlogs on this channel more often instead of just quitting for a cause. See you next time :)

  • @oneqwerty Thank you for sharing this mont with me. I

l'll do my best to keep the videos coming.

  • Canada has some awesome music. I alway find out about great Canadian artists on The Vinyl Cafe on NPR. I heard about the Rural Alberta Advantage through Weezy too, I really like them. I'm going to miss your daily vlogs. Happy Canada Day!

  • @DigitalCable I didn't realize people had heard of The Vinyl cafe outside of Canada. Awesome!

  • UGH. It is SO HARD to write a comment when there is a kitten trying to walk on the keyboard. Not that I'm complaining. She's adorable. But I was going to say something relevant to the video, and now I totally forget what it was.

I've never heard of any of those artists, I guess because I live so far from Canada, but some of them sound pretty cool. *browses downbar links*

  • @HeyWeemsical Aww, kittens are worth the hassle!

  • hey look into this Vancouver Band

    Brasstronaut

    they are Amazing

  • @JoCatofCatLand I'll be sure to check them out!

  • HAPPY CANADA DAY :D

    7 days tell cookies.

  • @JoCatofCatLand Happy Canada Day to you too!

    :)

  • what a lovely way to celebrate Canada Day and lots of good music recommendations! yay!

congrats on your 30 days being over. i will miss your daily vlogs, so i hope the experience has encouraged you to vlog more.

and zomg, only eight days until vidcon? gaaah! can't wait to see you there.

  • @splicegrrl I'm going to miss my daily vlogs too. But I look forward to a bit more free time. I do still plan to vlog on a more regular basis.

  • I just thought of last year, when I actually met you...

    I miss you so much!

Also, I don't like how you made folk-music sound bad, by saying "It's more folksy, BUT it's good" :D

Hawksley Workman... Am I right, remembering I sang one of his songs?

A Canadian band I recommend is Downhere, I own and love their album "Wide-Eyed and Mystified" ;)

    /Benny

  • @SlipFlip Ha, maybe that came out wrong. I really do love folk. Most of what I listen to now would be considered folk. But that band is a lot closer to traditional folk, which not everyone enjoys.

Yup, Hawksley is what you sang!

I've never heard of Downhere, but I'll deifnitely check them out! I miss you too!!
