@heatedhonda1 the webcam needs to be stationary. The barrel of the gun is not stationary, so it is not a good place to put the webcam. If the webcam is moving, then it thinks everything else is moving, and will shoot wildly at false targets.

Thanks so much Bob, your such a legend. I was late to work today because I just had got the X and Y servos working with laser and couldn't believe how good it was!! I am going to try and use a small pneumatic nail gun with my old laptop to protect my shed a night :)

Do u have to use a specific gear scale or cn u calibrate it to anything?

were would i be able to buy the servo attachments like the blue gear with the white cross inside of it and the black gear for the pan settings for the base?

I made those from some spare plastic gears i had lying around. You can get something similar, and better quality, from RobotShop [dot] com, MakerShed [dot] com, and ServoCity [dot] com.

@RhinoSurplus this code requires a stationary webcam, so it can't be mounted on the barrel of the gun (which is moving). For the tilt axis I used a direct-drive with a 180-degree servo, but to make the vertical motion stronger i would suggest maybe a 1:2 ratio, for 90 degrees of motion, or even a 1:3 ration for 60 degrees of motion.

bravo! thanks for this very informative demo.  i've been contemplating building something similar to supplement my own machine vision project. it's very helpful to see how you do what you do. i think at this point, you are pretty much THE open-source sentry gun expert! :D
