Honestly people asking if its powerful enough, stock the motor has nearly the same torque as what its replacing. Bump up the fuel a bit and a bigger turbo and they only thing you'll worry about isn't the power but breaking the drivetrain from to much torque. Don't be fooled by HP numbers, HP is for bragging, torque is what gets it done and these have it in spades.
I like how that fits in there... You figure that the 4BT would be a decent pulling engine? I have been thinking of doing a 12V swap into a 87 Chevy 1 ton but I am worried about the front suspension surviving with the weight, and I don't want to do a 4x4 conversion to put a dana 60 under it.
Honestly, it has only been driven around the yard because the TV cable to the tranny isn't hooked up and still doing further mods for fit and finish. But soon it will be done.
The 4BT can put out BIG power. There's a drag truck, a Ford Ranger, here on youtube that makes 175hp per cylinder on #2 diesel only. You wouldn't need that much, but it can be done. Get in touch with Beans Diesel Performance for more information.
What transmission are you using?
I'm thinking about doing this swap with my K2500.

Front suspension will hold up fine. If anything might have to replace ball joints more often. But who knows, it's just theory.

Does the suburban drive fine with the 4bt in it? I want to do a similar engine swap but i dont know if the engine is powerful enough.
