With respect to the housing crisis, I hear hardly anyone addressing the philosophical background behind having more is good. This consumer driven society has plunged households into record levels of debt. So if we are to bail out homes as well, we have to provide incentives for people to only take out loans they can afford, so perhaps a public finacial adviser scheme would be appropriate. Of course this has to co-exist with tough action against banks regarding the issue of preditory loans

What "conclusions" doesn't he agree with? They are poll results - statistical percentages based on simple discrete responses...McCain or Obama. It's true that the Zogby poll showed him behind by only 5.3% on Sunday on the question of who the respondents would likely vote for, but that was not one of the poll questions Tom Brokaw was referencing...apples to oranges.

With respect to the housing crisis, I hear hardly anyone addressing the philosophical background behind having more is good. This consumer driven society has plunged households into record levels of debt. So if we are to bail out homes as well, we have to provide incentives for people to only take out loans they can afford, so perhaps a public finacial adviser scheme would be appropriate. Of course this has to co-exist with tough action against banks regarding the issue of preditory loans

I was hoping you'd say that. McCain/Palin is a bigger risk, of being controlled by the same failed GOP agenda and more of the same Bush policies. Every President is new at the job, untried. Obama is changing direction, there are unknowns, that is why I waited till last month to decide. I'm 100% sure he will not make a major fuck up like Bush did and McCain certainly would.

FYI, the only "poll" that decides whether or not McCain will win is the one on election day. John Kerry was thought to beat Bush back in 04 and look how that election turned out.

Not looking good for McCain. He's down in pollster, nytimes, and realclearpolitics. While the points may be a bit off, the delegates are very straightforward. McCain has about half of what Obama does. 150 to 300 currently. Now the numbers may not all be correct, but they are correct enough to know that McCain has a huge gap to fill.

notice the statistic was 92% of the time from 2006 until now. the pre-2006 mccain was definitely more of a maverick. he has moved to the right since running for office this time because the "old" mccain was too liberal for the conservative base. if he hadn't made this "change" he would not have gotten the nomination. i think the "old" mccain is still in there, he just can't show it because he'd lose too much support from the right.
