  • The reason this looks like awkward, unskilled fighting in ugly, inauthentic armor is because these are beginners, with limited training, in homemade or borrowed armor, having what is essentially their first fight in competition. Search for "crown tourney" and "kingdom champions" to see SCA fighters at the top of their game and better-looking armor.

  • I dont like that, because its boring

  • Nah sorry, you got your own kind of history after 15 something, the yank-cowboy-civilwar kinda history after that our histories merge again in two world wars :(

  • yanks have no medieval history, thats obviously why there so bad at fighting lol!

  • How are you defining "medieval" here?

    Pre-1603 or thereabouts?

If so, we "Yanks" most certainly DO have medieval history. See: St. Augustine and most of the Catholic missions in the Southwest.

  • Medieval is usually defined as pre 1500, sorry.

  • @danielm291

Well, when it comes to melee fighting they are..

  • This is a nice . video, looks like people are all having fun. I need to get into more Great Sword work

  • Loosers!!!! Is this fighting ?! No, this is parody for fighting! And no landsknechts here!

  • The event is called "Landsknecht Gathering" for reasons other than the armor and garb that people happen to wear, and most of the fighting in this video is the equivalent of a "driver's test" for the sport, proving that you can fight competitively without hurting yourself or anyone else.

  • @CZRedemption Sorry the first post I was sharper than I wanted ... I do not know the reasons why it is called a Landsknecht Gathering, so I will not condemn it, but really I have not seen a single Landsknecht costume, unfortunately, no other historically datable clothing. You can fight rival and secure and competitive, even if you this fight faithfully. Of course it takes some practice. But what shows up in this video really can not call it an imitation of fighting. This is young chidren fight

  • I just started heavy and my persona is a Landsknecht. that way I can wear non period yet comfortable armor and cover it. Problem is selecting a helmet.

Any suggestions? I like a lobster tail Salet but its probably not proper.

  • Armet would be the most commont and fitting.

I also like the landsknecht + lobster tailed sallet combo, but it was quite uncommon for landsknechte (though common for knights of the period). But you could say that you, say, pwned some knight and thus gained the sallet :)

  • The helmet that is used by the late 15 C Landsknecht is called a Burgonet, and they were classically depicted in Black and White. By the Sword Inc. offers an SCA legal version with a face plate.

  • I just got my harness from Bokalos Armoury. Just waiting on a Burgonet now.

I was going to do the armour in black and white but all historical data points to the German Reiters using that and not the Landsknechts.

Many remakes say its Landsknecht armor but it appears to not be the case. I think being a Reiter is more SCA appropriate anyway. They can wear boots, use a basket hilt and employ a round target. All I need is a couple of wheel lock pistols.

  • The event is called landsknecht, the fighters are SCA regular heavy list.

  • Were are the ''Landsknechte''... I've seen not one of them! Look at my Video!

  • If they're landsknechts so I'm a Pope...

  • lol he's scratching his ass with the hilt of his stick...

  • Hmmm, I thought Landsknecht wear puffy clothings, breast plate, wear berets, and carry either a pike or zweihander.

  • yeah i was searching landsknecht too

but the title of the video means that the meeting is called landsknecht 2006,not that the ppl fighting are landsknechts

  • Why do they not use there shields as weapons they are so effective.

  • Ummm... No, they're really not.

You can use your shield offensively, but you can't strike with it. Sorry.

  • of course you can strike with it its simply a large metal extension of your fist

  • SCA's Heavy Combat rules state that you can't strike with a shield. It's just dangerous.

As for effectiveness, while you're taking your merry time to swing that bulky thing at me, I'll take the same amount of time to put my shield in the way and throw a cut to the place that your shield isn't protecting anymore. :)

That being said, shield snatches and presses are SCA Heavy Legal, and can be quite effective at hampering your opponent's shield use.

  • I thought that was Valgard. I was wondering. The "bunny round" shield is a Western style.

  • shoulda made the whole vid with the girl at the end in it. ;) Actually I'm going to be authorizing soon and I'm nervous, and watching this helped ease that. nice vid.

  • Maybe they should steal...but... it I guess it will not help anyway.

  • i dont see any landsknechts here and I think this fight is a bit lame

  • ....Yawn

  • next time post some real fighting.

  • The event was landsknecht veridung in the east kingdom this past june

  • I guess the first several minutes are some authorization bouts. I recognize Sir Valgard in there too.

What makes any of these guys landsknects? Are they German? I sure don't see any puff or slash.

  • Is that Kilt what he is wearing??
