Not many people can do the Carter scratch. I can do it identical to maybelle and play with the records note for note. Unless you have a real good ear, your not going to be able to do it. It's a tough technique that requires about 2 months of solid practice to get down the thumb and scratch technique.
I appreciate you vcomment about that. I have always heard that there are thousands of "Carter Scratch" pcikers out there. Where are they? I always listened and learned from the master herself, although not in person of course!
this is really cool, i have been trying to learn how to play this for some time, i sound like an idiot, but could you just tell me what string to pick when you're on C for the melody?
I have been playing guitar for more than 50 years and wildwood flower is the very first tune I learned. I have never heard it played without g-7 except here for the first time although I have heard it played by numerous people thru the years. But to each his own. Music is an expression of the person who plays it so who is to say what is right or wrong??
Thanks, I was thinking "hmmm, I've got that guitar sitting in the corner that I never quite got around to learning how to play and I love the Carter family...maybe youtube wiould have something..."
nice play
