I may not be an oracle of knowledge when it comes to skating, but I know a fair bit - used to film vids a lot etc. You're wrong about the chest thing - in a frontside halfcab flip your back is turning towards the direction of movement, not your front (you can't see where you're going when you're doing them, unlike a backside halfcab, where you can).
I accept that nothing is going to change, but to me this is a frontside trick.

Currently you have to know whether somebody skates goofy or regular in order to determine whether the trick is frontside or backside - this shouldn't be the case.

@SwitchRich no no no...nollie doesnt change anything, fakie does. goofy or regular doesn`t matter - frontside is turning your chest toward the direction you`re going. backside is turning your back toward the direction you`re going. fakie is just `switch nollie`shorthand thus reverses all this. it`s VERY simple and everyone goes by this - it`s why everyone is getting so frustrated at the oddly self-assured way you`re explaining this other bizarre theory, it sounds like you don`t skate

Douggles. I've been skating for 21 years. I may not be an oracle of knowledge when it comes to skating, but I know a fair bit - used to film vids a lot etc. You're wrong about the chest thing - in a frontside halfcab flip your back is turning towards the direction of movement, not your front (you can't see where you're going when you're doing them, unlike a backside halfcab, where you can).
I accept that nothing is going to change, but to me this is a frontside trick.

Also, this trick has been being done for at least 18 years - I knew at least one guy in my town who could do it back in 1992. Some modern tricks aren't half as new as some kids believe. Still, believe what you want, it's up to you.

There are lots of tricks which people were doing back then which only recently have become popular - like all the late flips. I had a friend who was doing fakie big spin late flips 20 years ago - I've got one on video. If somebody did that now most people would consider it to be a new trick.

If you do a frontside ollie moving forwards it's called 'frontside' and if you do one moving fakie it's called a 'frontside halfcab'. Backside ollie going forwards is 'backside' and a backside ollie going fakie is a 'backside halfcab'. It's only where nollies are concerned that things start to get strange.

Actually this trick should be called 'frontside' because it's just a switch frontside halfcab flip. For some reason the naming this trick got reversed in the nineties, but it's a mistake.
Think about it, if you stop 90 degrees on a frontside halfcab flip you're looking backwards too!
If this guy skated goofy it would be called frontside, but as he skates regular they call it backside - doesn't make sense. Strictly speaking it's frontside, but everybody seems to have forgotten that.

Sorry to labour the point but....when you do a frontside halfcab flip your back faces the direction you are traveling. However when you do a backside halfcab flip your front faces the direction of travel!
