Most of the Italians who are opposed to Balotelli playing for the national squad aren't racist; they simply want to keep tradition. Italy has always had native Italians playing for its national team, unlike say Germany, whos best strikers are Polish, and France who has Algerians, Moroccons etc.
They are opposed to Mario not because he is black, but because he is not Italian-born. If he was a white man from Spain they would have the same feelings about him.

For 19 years of his whole life, he's been staying in Italy, and all of his memories I'm sure, are of Italians. Take a look at Zidane. He's Algerian, but was born in France and people immediately recognise him as French. Why can't they do the same for Balotelli? Society shows it's because his black.
