Too fast! When Bach writes demi-semi-quavers, one ought to think of a grander, more maestoso tempo, rather like a French overture.... This is just too fast and blurrs the beautiful passage work and counterpoint. Nice instrument though.
Exchange of the idiom between different areas in Bach's work is well known. That means that the standard of tempo judgment is the same in cases as chamber music, and violine music many time on Bach's works.
This music is not strict polyphony music but quite homophonic polyphony music. This is understood if it analyzes. Therefore, I don't think that quick tempo breaks down "Contrapunctus".
Many organist will perform this music very slower. This MIDI performance is an antithesis.
@TheSonicBird This performance is the "antithesis" - oh quite! I rather thought of this as an extended "Invention" (like the many 2, 3, and 4 part Inventions for clavier by Bach). I think that the homophonic polyphony needs to be gracefully articulated, hence the slower tempo (I would suggest). On the other hand I appreciate the 'raison d'etre' for this performance. Thanks.
